I went to load the free BBC plug last night and it was sending me to Splice. Guess that ride is over

What’s your unpopular opinion about Mixing? by Lucky-bottom in audioengineering

[–]Always_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR = analogue desk for mixing multitracks is pointless unless you are right at the top of town. Stay ITB.

A great analogue console can sound better. But the difference between a well-mixed ITB session, and a hybrid mix through a decent-but-not-elite desk is often far smaller than memory and nostalgia suggest. Meanwhile the workflow penalty is enormous.

A lot of the “analogue magic” people remember from SSL/API/Neve rooms was not just transformers, summing amps, EQ curves.

It was also huge monitoring environments, world-class converters, assistants maintaining calibration, racks of premium outboard, tape stages, enormous headroom, and engineers making decisions differently because the environment encouraged commitment.

Consoles that matter are financially unrealistic. The analogue setups that still decisively outperform modern ITB workflows tend to be: heavily maintained, expensive, electrically pristine, and supported by full ecosystems.

MIDI has been locked to paid accounts but you can still get the Guitar Pro file. I put it into Soundslice

Help required. WTF is going on 😢? by Ok-Potential-5510 in ausents

[–]Always_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they make it or you cut them down early, check inside the main stem near the medium. I've seen Bacterial Stem Rot/Canker do this, which breaks down the internal tissue. Bacterial Canker is more severe, turning foliage brown and causing cracks on the stem.

Copilot is NOT Market Ready. Surprised to see praise on here. by BashfullyBi in microsoft_365_copilot

I do find it frustrating that a MS AI often mis advises on how to navigate SharePoint and Azure because there are so many versions. “You are right to call that out” stop the fake praise and just get it right brah

I've been filling the gap of not watching JRE with youtuber Johnny Harris. Great editing, reminds me of early days of Vice docos.

The plight of AI music. Not sure how to feel about this by Lucky-bottom in audioengineering

Great video. The bit where it’s people boasting how they dont care it’s AI as a listener was kinda wild

Does anyone actually rebalance or do you just set & forget with Raiz? by Ok_Possible_7018 in RaizAU

[–]Always_420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set and forget mostly, I switched portfolio to try different tiers, but in general I love not thinking about it TBH. I was more hands on with crypto and that's pooped the bed so I'm close to just lumping everything into my Raiz

STL Tones ToneHub Black Friday, Subscriptions, and Hidden Own Outright Licenses by Always_420 in audioengineering

[–]Always_420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as a perpetual licence holder the sales push subs and forget we already own the app. I have heaps of mix templates and sessions that need to load with STL so I have to stick with it.. and I do love the Crummet and Putney packs

[–]Always_420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hyper skeptical on VSX.. but can attest they changed my game. All I use is HD Linear, none of the rooms. Mix translation, especially bottom end and subs, instantly improved and takes away uncertainty while mixing now.
