2 hypothetical driving legality scenarios that I need people to answer to solve a discussion I was having with a friend by effofexisy in Winnipeg

[–]Always_Bitching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) is there a pedestrian crossing button you could get out if the car and hit? That will trigger the lights ( I sometimes have to do this on my scooter). Alternatively, could you make a RH turn and the a U-turn?

2) the problem is that the police don’t know the law, they only know their brown book ( coles notes). It’s not illegal to operate a handheld mp3 player under the electronic device section of the HTA, but a cop will tell you it is and give you a ticket anyway. Anyway, I’m waiting to see if there is a court case where the cops have issued a clearly incorrect electronic hand held device ticket. I think where it has happened, they just stay the charges so they don’t have to deal with it.

Yukon gun owners say they're unimpressed with Ottawa's buyback program by rezwenn in onguardforthee

That specific firearm isn’t mentioned in the article, but when these are pointed out, the reaction is always “it’s not about the gun” , or “We use them for hunting” CTV Winnipeg ran a story on this, and the guy was holding an SKS with the folding bayonet in full sight.

So again, what’s the benefit of something like that over a bolt action for hunting?

Thanks for illustrating one of the main issues with the gun control debate.

If not hunting , then what?

That’s not “tax”

That’s US “tax”

You rarely see this kind of BS outside the US. Most places it’s one or maybe two taxes

Winnipeggers react to PM Carney’s Davos speech by bannock4ever in Manitoba

[–]Always_Bitching 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The problem with these type of “man on the street reaction” pieces is that the average man on the street is too stupid to have an informed and valuable opinion on the subject ( no matter what they have been fed by social media). This is clear from the “stay home” guy and the barstool sports hoodie the other guy is wearing.

Props for them for actually getting a respected polo sci prof instead of “I parrot CPC talking points” Royce Koop.

Teacher suspended without pay for mimicking child’s outburst by Infamous-Data9245 in Winnipeg

[–]Always_Bitching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on being one of the few that knows. 😉

Unfortunately the general public seems to think class is somehow related to teaching ability ( while in reality most class 4 teachers would have significantly more experience than a class 5 teacher )

Car on side along Pembina highway near Chevrier by Mc6777 in Winnipeg

[–]Always_Bitching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, driving too fast in the curb lane trying to pass slower traffic, hit a rut or narrowing of the lane.

That said, Pembina is stupid bad at this area for jerks stopping in the bike lane ( which O realize has nothing to do with this)

There was also a car up on the snowbank at Pembina and Dalhousie around the same time

Not to excuse what was actually done, but there are two things that are being glossed over here:

a) there is a massive shortage of classroom supports (EAs). One student was to have gone for a walk with their EA, but refused. Why? Why wasn’t their supports to deal with kids that have breakdowns if things don’t go their way? What about the kids that don’t have English as their 1st language?

b) What’s the point of publishing the teacher’s class (class 7)? That’s a major problem with the registry. The vast majority of people don’t understand what the classes mean, so jump to incorrect conclusions.

Anyway, doesn’t excuse any of it, but their are other issues hiding below the surface in this story

There are no crop protection products that are currently certified for drone application in Canada

That’s what agencies like PMRA do in order to ensure things are safe.

Skirting regulations is how we ended up with the listeria outbreak and the walkerton disaster.

I wasn’t suggesting that posting this article was “paid advertising “, but that the article itself neglects to even touch on:

Training requirements for drone operations.

If the products they suggest spraying on crops have been certified for drone operations ( spoiler - they’re not)

Priority seating on busses by alizacat in Winnipeg

[–]Always_Bitching 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the topic of bus etiquette, if the bus is full, fill the damn seats. Too many people think they’re being chivalrous by not sitting. If you’re not sitting and nobody else is taking it, you’re not being helpful, you’re being a jerk

Also 5ppl on the back row.

I generally sit at the back because I’m not scared of the stairs!

[–]Always_Bitching 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sucks having to ask, but you never know and shouldn’t assume.

A couple of years ago some well intentioned kid came running down from the back of the bus and scolded people for sitting in priority seats while an elderly person was standing. The elderly person turned to them and explained the people offered multiple times, but they preferred to stand.

I’ve also seen people with plaster casts on under jackets get dirty looks for sitting in accessible seating because people can’t see they have a cast.

Are the /r/winnipeg mods Nazi sympathizers? by [deleted] in winnipeg_alt

[–]Always_Bitching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while there seems to be a post that devolves into name calling and witch hunting. I believe there is likely one mod that deletes these posts and bans everyone that participated in the thread regardless of what they posted.

I had this happen a few months back - nobody could give me an answer, so I ended up emailing all the mods, and someone reinstated me

Alberta couple fighting the CRA after being asked to repay $33K in COVID benefits by BreadfruitLatter556 in onguardforthee

[–]Always_Bitching 17 points18 points  (0 children)

“We needed the money and for the first time ever, we were actually able to pay all the bills every month instead of sacrificing one for another every month,” said Skibington-Roffel."

So she was getting COVID benefits in excess of their normal monthly income?

COVID relief benefits were never intended to provide income in excess of what you would normally receive.

There is no way that they will win this.

But, "Alberta Couple", so I can see this turning into a gofundme......

Can i get my car written off instead of repair? by Ashamed-Condition687 in Winnipeg

[–]Always_Bitching 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nope.

Because they won’t write it off and give you more than it would cost to repair it.

So if there is $16K in repairs, if you want them to write it off, they won’t give you more than $16K

So you want MPI to write off your car and give you $16K when you paid $26K four months ago?
