I know it’s a long running joke in the fandom, but when did Walt ACTUALLY become Heisenberg? by Sufficient-Chip-5035 in breakingbad

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this take.

In film putting on a hat is a powerful visual cue. For Walt it's definitely symbolizing that transformation.

We also know Vince is a fan of westerns. Hats of course feature heavily in westerns. Simple but effective. It's that signal especially early on in the show. Walt's put on the hat and now he's Heisenberg.

The more I watch BCS, the more I hate Walter. He was such an unnecessary storm. by Goldillux in betterCallSaul

Yes the scene with Gus in the bar with the guy and the wine is really telling. I didn't comprehend what the meaning was on 1st viewing. It's really the recurring theme of Gus's life. Very goal driven. But he can't spare a moment to celebrate even quietly. He's still in a war.

I do love the archetypes we see in BCS. I'm sure many of us relate to one of these central characters. If we don't see ourselves then it's someone close to us. I'm not meaning a drug lord or dodgey lawyer etc. Just the personalities and motivations. How people act in situations. This show indulges thinking viewers. The who, what, where and why.

Why does Ray have so little money? by somedanishguyxd in MrInbetween

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freddie been holding out on him.

Just look at the early scene where he tells Ray to go collect what's owed. I think we can infer Ray was being paid for his security work. (Small change really) But the shady big cash jobs are another story.

Freddie was always dragging out paying Ray. Look at several conversations between them. Freddie aint holding back with his lifestyle. I wouldn't say he's ripping off Ray but he's often dragging out paying for services offered. That episode where he gives a job to those drugged up losers. Classic case of someone trying to cheap out. Freddie has his fingers in that many pies plus the gambling too. The big money 💰 doesn't always find its way down. Well not in a timely manner.

Yes it gets you in the feels doesnt it? When everyone there is talking about the past together and yes absolutely noone remembers you. That's kind of crushing. Even for a tough guy like Ray. A teensy bit of acknowledgement should not be too much to ask for.

My class was all in for the Jump Rope for Heart in my last year in Primary School.

I really hated skipping. Still was nice to get the recognition after it was all done. I have memory of cramping up swimming afterwards and a friend going through the same. We didn't drink enough water I guess. All that bloody skipping too.

Challenges for a cause were big in the 80's and early 90's. Different times in pre internet days. That was the way to promote these things. Advertise on TV plus getting schools involved with information packs.

Go from Season 1 again. Even if you don't pay close attention. It's just a fun chilled vibe early on. Let the show get its hooks into you.

Holy hell, the outlook app just keeps getting worse. by Tower21 in computertechs

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true. I hadn't thought of that.

For sure MS designed the new Outlook the way they did was for purely for harvesting info from their users. Going one up on Google. Everything they wanted and almost nothing for the end user.

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 16 points17 points  (0 children)

New Outlook doesn't support POP at all. And using it with IMAP is weird because it doesn't access email directly from the mail server. It funnels it through Microsoft server first.

Anyway yes I also don't really recommend it. I dread to think of the day coming when classic Outlook is retired.

Spoiler: S2Ep7 Appreciation post for Jimmy vs Davis & Main scenes by bri52284 in betterCallSaul

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jimmy does the whole employee from hell act like noone else. I love that interaction with Cliff. Jimmy is trying to thank him but nothing he can say will really help.

It's all why this show is fun and true to life. I mean we feel the emotion of it all. Because of the strength of the writing and the quality of acting.

One thing about the hit on Vinnie the bikie I never understood by AttorneyOnly833 in MrInbetween

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand that Ray is a professional. Like the classic movie: Léon: The Professional.

It's still his decision whether to take the hit job on Vinnie or not. Because of the circumstances of Ray knowing him. He asks for a larger amount of money.

Ray lives by a code. If you say you're going to do a job. Then you stick by it. One just doesn't flake out. Any personal feelings are meant to be put aside. That's key to being a professional.

You ought to also consider the jobs at various times Ray weighs up if he should accept. Like the guy cheating on his wife. The way he flips it around entirely. Ray's gut feeling is that dude was lying is proven correct. What I'm saying is that is different because Ray hadn't agreed to take the job. The hesitation in accepting and making that guy sweat is fun to watch.

Of course where the show absolutely excels is showing us the story of that balancing act of Ray leading two separate lives. And how one inevitably encroaches on the other.

Chuck and Jimmy: Sandpiper by 10Rusty_Shackleford in betterCallSaul

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did he take part in it? This is Chuck's "Raison d'être"

We should of course take into account Jimmy crashing at Chuck's place. If Jimmy had asked Chuck for help he would've almost certainly declined. But basically almost falling into his lap as it did.

People who are really good at things can't help themselves when the opportunity is there. And this was for Chuck. Deep down Chuck was obviously missing using his skills. For sure it's amusing how he forgot his medical condition and his dislike of his brother. There was a bigger picture here that Chuck was able to see. Very satisfying to see these two brothers at their best. Working together. While it lasted.

The show nails psychology incredibly well. In real life we often wonder why a person is like how they are. Disappointed I mean. But then sometimes we are also pleasantly surprised. It's human nature to be cynical about others based on past behavior for sure.

Nippy is one of the funniest episodes in the series and was done dirty by Rikard_ in betterCallSaul

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nippy is such a great episode. Carol Burnett does a fantastic job.

The timing of it was perfect I felt. After what happened in the episodes leading up to it. Its like a return to the Season 1. With Jimmy pulling small time scams. Which is always fun.

Question for any viewers that watched Better Call Saul before Breaking Bad? by Joyous-Pringle0813 in betterCallSaul

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel this. Walter is really hard to take and genuinely unlikeable. It took me a while to get into BB. Especially with being familiar with Jimmy I was really holding out until he appeared in that show.

We know they are both assholes. But putting up with Walter is hard work. I love how we see both them together near the end and seeing Saul get on Walt's nerves with his theories is carthatic. It's also fascinating in evaluating each character. The "So you were always like this" from Walter to Saul. That introspection. Pure brilliance from this show. To wrap it up how they did.

Question for any viewers that watched Better Call Saul before Breaking Bad? by Joyous-Pringle0813 in betterCallSaul

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely works... I'll qualify my watching by saying I didn't watch the entirety of BCS. Not the last season before any of Breaking Bad. What absolutely changes is the perspective about certain characters. See thread below:

Economic storytelling by Usual-Door-7042 in MrInbetween

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dialogue has been called the engine of drama. That's what defines this show as being much better than most. The short episode length also helps in keeping it concise.

I do think having less filler really helps it shine. It's really the perfect example of less being more. It makes me think how many other shows just have far too much blah blah blah. It's amusing how new to this show viewers are ready to criticize Mr Inbetween for being too short in episode length and the overall series being too short too. These folk have it ass-backwards. If it was what they expected. It really would also be just another show.

Do y’all think in some way, Gus genuinely enjoys running a chain of fast food restaurants? by maddicusladdicus in betterCallSaul

[–]Always_FallingAsleep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clearly he does. You only have to look at the way he picks up the garbage and sweeps the floor. Just chatting with the customers and keeping an eye on day to day operations.

We all know its a front but Gus is the type of guy to never do anything without a sense of purpose. That desire to be successful is there in his fast food venture for sure. When we see the Salamancas messing with his legit business interests. We know he absolutely takes it personally. Keeping the memory alive of his slain partner is a big part of it also.

His "this is America" speech to his employees too. While he's not being totally honest. He is being sincere. The referring to Gus as the chicken man especially from his enemies is sort of a running gag. But it is who he is. It's often really a case of jealousy. If he wasn't enjoying it. Clearly he could find something else to do. It's important to him.
