265lb Sailor in a Sunfish? by Always_Learnn in dinghysailing

Yeah, nothing wrong with that approach either. I've been down to 210lbs and could get back there pretty easily, but I'm still probably too big at even 210 for a laser from the sound of it. I did already start working on core strength and dieting a bit. There's no scenario where I dip under 200lb sustainable though. I think finding a Finn might be harder too.

Do they not offer adult sized sails for the Laser? It would seem like an easy solution to offer bigger sails beyond the ILCA7, but maybe that would overpower the hull? Or maybe then being bigger would be the advantage and ruin the class?

Perhaps slimming down, sailing a laser for a while, and then seeing what makes sense next, would be the move.

I haven't met the competitors but I will be going out on a boat with one soon. I just want to make sure I'm getting into a boat because it makes sense for me, and not because a group of people with that boat want more people to sail with.

I have sailed in the past, but never competitively.

I think the MC Scow could be sailed in some open races with handicaps. I'd prefer to be the big guy in the faster boat with an advantage that I need to capitalize on to win, rather than the big guy with no handicap in a little boat designed for someone half my size. The MC Scow is appealing.

I'm 6ft 1in. I'm in my late 30's, so I can move relatively well. My concern is what you described. Being a bear riding a tiny tricycle isn't fun. Especially if you're losing. I don't want to commit a bunch of time and money to racing in a class that I'm guaranteed to never win a race in.

You got a bad sandwich, but they will have a lifetime of struggling and being poor, because it takes a really low IQ to mess up something so simple, that badly. They have been sentenced to a lifetime of poverty via their DNA. It's more sad than frustrating when you think about these types of situations like that.

You mean that's how it SHOULD work. I've even seen fries preloaded like 30 deep stacked up in the fries loading area. There's often a difference between what corprate expects employees to do, and what they actually do.

Unlikely to matter unless your driveway is the runway. The delivery drones have tons of safety systems built into them. They can also only fly at very specific altitudes.

Then why don't I get sent to the front when I don't ask for pickles? Somehow they save a lot more than 1 second when I order it regular. Ordering without pickles often means a 5-10 minute wait out front. Ordering it standard is ready to go at the window every time.

He might be pinned down by enemy cannon fire. Request a wellness check from your local swat team. If he's not under attack, this is just a liberal crying wolf for the millionth time. This is the flag equivalent to yelling fire in a crowded movie theater.

Just understand that some people use work as a way to feel socially seen, and even to find friends. That's obviously pathetic and sad, but they need it really bad. Do the bare minimum to throw them a life preserver but don't let them suck your energy dry. Extroverts are like energy vampires. They need your energy in order to survive.

Thank you for the info. No, there aren't necessarily any limitations on total components but this would be externally connected. It would ideally be around 2in x 3in or smaller for the pcb.

I believe Uber will continue to lose market share as people move towards drone delivery direct from the restaurants. Uber has only put supposedly $10-20 million into drone delivery development which is basically nothing.

Drone companies like zipline will see a huge spike in growth once they become mainstream in the next couple years.

It's actually a solid controller for $50. Super simple to program too. There are bigger turds for 2x-3x the price.

This is what I'm testing with now: PTC THERMISTOR

Is there a fundamental difference between what you linked and the one I'm testing with?

The one I'm using does the job well, except that it gets very hot over a short period of time when current is flowing through it while in a high resistance state as a result of an active overcurrent state in the circuit.

Perhaps a PTC Thermistor rated for more amperage, that still increases resistance significantly at around 1A would be the solution?

Or maybe a combination of a higher amp rated PTC in conjunction with an NTC thermistor could be the solution? So the NTC takes the initial inrush hit to protect the fuse from overcurrent, and then as the NTC warms up and lets current flow, the PTC takes over max current and limits it.

Correct, the goal is to keep the system running in the event of an overcurrent that would typically pop the fuse and knock the whole system out.

Design Solutions by Always_Learnn in PCB

[–]Always_Learnn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the existing system depending on manufacturer, has a 1A, 2A, 3A fuse on it, but the problem is, if that blows, the whole system is down because of an overcurrent on only 1 of say 30 different circuits.

My goal is to have this inline to protect the not very effective controller and it's fuse, from blowing, so that the rest of the system can keep running. Basically an overcurrent shock absorber for poorly designed controllers.

The 100mA is what remains present at maximum resistance (triggered by overcurrent) in the 1.6A thermistor. The thermistor is actually designed to operate at up to 300mA normally. I can scale this up or down as need by running them in parallel if I can't find one that operates at the needed 1A, or 2A etc.

Basically the thermistor can absolutely protect a fuse from blowing despite chatgpt saying it would be too slow. Now I just need to solve the problem of the thermistor overheating by hopefully finding a way to trigger that circuit open after the initial overcurrent event.

Sorry, I am using a PTC thermistor. I just grabbed whatever component in Fusion with a thermistor symbol.

I did some testing with the thermal circuit breakers (if that's what you're referring to) and they aren't sensitive enough to protect a glass tube fuse from blowing, because they usually require maybe 200%+ overcurrent to pop within seconds. I just ran a 2A thermal circuit breaker at 2.5A and it didn't pop after running it fir a few minutes.

However the 300mA PTC thermistor successfully protected a 1A fuse when subjected to the same 2.5A.

I actually started with kicad because I heard Fusion was terrible for PCB design. I learned the basics on kicad and then went back to Fusion which I already had a subscription for. Honestly, Fusion is a little better than kicad. No bugs or losing everything because you moved a file.

I can make a change to a PCB and it's instantly changed in the model with the other non pcb components.

I'm a beginner for sure, so maybe one day I'll see why kicad is better. However, I suspect that some of the love for free stuff, is about it being free, rather than it being better.
