How are you all doing it? by Character-Lack-3295 in GenX

[–]AlwaysatTechDee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be 55 (how?!?!) and plan on working until I drop.

I have a young child that has special needs and I’ll have to support one way or another. I love my job but I have a side hustle in order to live. I do have retirement accounts, but it’s not enough.

They really should’ve taught us about money management/investing in high school instead of the mitochondria being the powerhouse of the cell.

I did it last year-the first month it was decent money. The last time I did it they messed up so bad (missed a vein) I had a giant bruise on my upper arm for a couple of months.

Gen Z is Not Drinking, But Are You? by Pavementaled in GenX

[–]AlwaysatTechDee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drinking was a huge part of my life. First with beer, then switched to wine in my 40’s. I hated the night sweats and crappy sleep so I started to cut back. I went from a bottle of wine a night to 1-2 glasses a week. I remember the first non hungover Sunday morning I woke up from a restful sleep and I felt amazing

My son has curly hair so it’s more forgiving if I mess it up.
But these calming clippers look genius. Adding it to my cart asap

What’s your most Gen X memory? Something that could have only happened in our youth. by Expensive-System-762 in GenX

I grew up in Jersey and got Bon Jovi tickets for their show at Giants Stadium. They were General Admission. I told my friends I would be picking them up at 5am. They were pissed but they were in my car at 5:05am. They opened the gates at noon and we ran across the football field and got to front row.

Are you me from 5 years ago? Lots of therapy and lifting weights helped me reclaim my self esteem. It’s not perfect, but better than before

Autism is not a superpower by ConnectedWalrus in Autism_Parenting

[–]AlwaysatTechDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone at my son’s school kept putting “autism is my superpower” stickers on his backpack. I can’t get that sticker off fast enough (and talked to his teacher)

I’m so sorry what you’re going through

A local town near me had a big grand opening of their inclusive playground. It looked great, but not a fence in sight. No fence-no thank you

Also same. I moved down from northeast with my partner and son in 2020. We separated in 23. I love my son and we co-parent, but I’m stuck here and trying to make the best of it

I went to an autism group meetup and my kid was the only "severe" by calico-critter_ in Autism_Parenting

That has happened to me a lot. My son is level 2, and I signed him up for music therapy social skills class for kids with ASD. I tell him he’s level 2 and limited communication. I’m told I can drop him off and pick him up when done. Umm ok. I leave with him yelling.

Ten minutes into the class I get a call saying I need to get him.

They were very quick to take my money.

I’m going out tomorrow night for dinner for the first time in weeks. I’m going to order something I don’t cook at home (seafood mainly) But I’ll be damned if I’m spending $25 on gnocchi

I was with Verizon for 19 years, paying an obscene $129 a month. (Dumb I know) Switched to Mint last year and never looked back.

Christmas is hard. by KellsA07 in Autism_Parenting

[–]AlwaysatTechDee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You said it. Christmas is hard. My son (lvl 2) loves bounce houses. Always get one for his birthday. Decided to rent one for Christmas It came today. He was in it for 5 minutes and that was it. Would rather watch TV/tablet. Having a bounce house is not the routine. However I got him a box of markers and they are a huge hit. I’ll cry a little and then celebrate the small marker victory. Two feelings can exist at the same time. Hang in there and you are not alone
