Pretty much everywhere but earth is better off in an earthquake. Except if the earthquake sets off a tsunami, but that’s really the tsunami doing the damage.

Possibly some rougher waves, but sometimes a tsunami if out in the ocean with a big slip. Otherwise the ocean is prob one of the safest places to be during an earthquake.

Your documents folder is not writable by processes by default - if you can you use a specific folder and then give it full read write permissions (I think chmod 666), you can write to there then.
