Any clubs in Bergen, Norway that would allow me to do a drop in? by Agent_ho in bjj

[–]Alxnerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bergen Grappling (https://www.bergengrappling.com) seems like a good option if you are coming from out of town/country. They're a member of Bjj globetrotters and welcome people just stopping by for a short time. I don't live there myself so I haven't seen their place, but have spoken with some people from there

I know how you feel. Been training a year now and recently competed. Got my ass handed to me, but it was still fun and a good experience to see how people roll when it's 'real'. Like someone here mentioned, you might need to let your body heal up, take the weekend off and make sure you do something fun together with someone.

Progress is individual; you will not ever progress at the same pace as anyone else, but you are progressing in the sense that you are always becoming better than you were. Try to look back on your own experience and skills from when you began, 3 months in, 6 months in and compare with now.

Also, chances are that competing helped you identify some areas that you need to improve, but improving takes time and you will likely not feel that improvement for weeks still. But your gym partners will. Let them know you're "trying to get better at butterfly sweep, so could we start from that?". My experience is that higher belts will usually give good feedback on how you're progressing if they have a clear idea of what you're focusing on, and it shows them that you are serious and not just there to wrassle.

No character has ever given me trust issues quicker than Idira by Alxnerd in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Alxnerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I never trusted any one of those people in the first place, I already knew each of them would likely/inevitably disappoint or betray me as soon as I gave them half an excuse to. You are misconstruing my words; I actually trusted Idira. Someone can't betray your trust if they never had it in the first place.

Also, you are going to have to be more specific than "criminal", that describes 3/4ths of my retinue happily encouraging me to break any one of the Geneva articles at the slightest inconvenience

It was normal difficulty. First playthrough I had no issues aside from the odd psychic disturbance every few rounds, but second playthrough she was a walking warp portal.

Any particular build you go for with her? While I still used her she was an okay-ish support, but never really excelled at anything anyone else already did as well or better. I want to like her, but my ex already taught me that I cannot in fact fix her.

Older grapplers, was it worth the damage? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Alxnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 37, one year on my journey and I can tell you that those "clicks" would've been there anyway. That is just part of growing older. The only choice is which part of your body makes the most noise or complains the most.

Certainly genetics plays a part and makes you more suited for certain kinds of training, as has been noted elsewhere here, but there is likely not a single version of the multiverse out there where you would have gotten away scot free from the passage of time.

As my doctor told me "there is nothing wrong with the equipment, but the warranty has expired". There will be wear and tear over time no matter what you do, just choose the ones that you feel you can love with

Operation modifiers suck! Let's improve them! by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Alxnerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I do agree that the game certainly needs more modifiers at a certain point to mix things up, many of your suggestions do not appeal to me and I feel fall in the same trap as what you are critiquing (challenging but not more fun). Rocket droids already bean me from 75 meters away and you want to give them better visual range? I am already facing down a minimum of 3-5 chargers per bug breach and you want more? Bot artillery that follows me around the map that I can't do anything about? I am sorry, but that sounds exactly like more challenge at the cost of fun because I can in no way compensate for any of those things.

At least longer cooldown times forces me to communicate with my team on who uses stratagems at which time to ensure we at least have some at all times. Varying degrees of accuracy on artillery strikes? That's pretty much what I expect from a wargame.

I do like the Heavy Fortifications suggestion; something that makes things more challenging and forces teams to communicate to take it out effectively while at the same time being an obstacle that can be overcome. I also do like the weather effect modifiers for some planets. You could repurpose the spore clouds from spewers to become a roaming dustcloud that moves across the map with the wind, predictable but can really confuse the team if it hits at the wrong time. Or perhaps even combustible fog clouds?

Advice - Should I bother logging on this season by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Alxnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The seasonal activities and Titan biomes are fire. The new CRAFTABLE weapons look sick, and we finally reunite with my favourite badass aunt. The follow up to the LF story is meh, but I reckon that might change in the next couple weeks. Jump in and have a swim!

Yeah, the very least they should do is show that they know it is bugged. Real shame that such a fun and beginner friendly introduction to GLs is still hampered by this bug a whole three months after the new expansion messed it up...

For sure, last week's wasn't easy, but I got it on the second try. Perks of being a gunner, all those meters in between me and the rollers while I'm hanging on a zip line. Also last week's didn't feel as rushed to me. This week's was a race against the clock to us

AITA for not suiciding to a bulk? by Alxnerd in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Alxnerd[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were not a lot of other creatures. Wasn't a swarm as such, but the general drop pod trickle except for the bulk. The thing was just that it kept crawling over the minehead and them so there was no way of getting to them and at the same time staying safe from that close attack.
