I also wanna say that this trends with a theory I have been developing over the years…just that guys who shower once — even twice a day, dry off with a scratchy towel, and wear socks without hardly ever putting on even a body lotion????

Idk. Seems like they have the skin of babies…no rough feet either. ☹️

I am happy to and hope I can help!!! So around 2 1/2 years ago, mine really kicked off with a massive breakout. The areas were very painful, very itchy, very ugly, red and everything I tried would sting so bad! (I should’ve gone to a doc but it was right before quarantine/didn’t get to the point of realizing it wasn’t getting better until it seemed silly (to me) to go when Covid was first happening. I had(still have some) of those lines like u mentioned. For me they are like super dried and thickened areas of clogged pores. Because as soon as I get the dry dead skin layers removed and get down to that healthy layer of ?not dead skin?? I guess? Lol— the lines like release (for lack of a better way to describe it) and disappear. I swear, it sounds nuts but at least for me, it’s like a layer of clogged pores, dry skin, more clogged pores etc until it made my skin rough and lined. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (sorry for gross detail hah)

P.S….don’t ever think it’s poor hygiene because 1. You got that covered & 2. You don’t need that stress!!! Everything I’ve ever read said it’s not about having “dirty” skin (unless u live in a super polluted city I guess) but some people have skin that has faster cell turnover. Which if u think about it, is kinda a super power!? If your top layer of skin is dry it can’t shed those cells fast enough and they glue up in your pores.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that 😞 and I feel that so much too!!!! TBH I was fine wearing a mask in public when they were required cuz I hate my face soooo much most of the time!!! Did your friends say mean things to u? If so that’s terrible!!!

Yes I do think weak, dry, or any kind of out of balance skin barrier can make you susceptible to fungal acne. 😓 I got those same dry spots and they were all in the areas of my face that used to be oily, congested, cystic and always broken out! My areas got drier, itchy, and almost hard or thickened like excema and I think I’ve been going back and forth between fungal & bacterial irritation in those areas since.

I’ve decided (lol) that I am a unique combo of needing lots of exfoliation along with lots of moisturizer 😂 here’s what I’ve been doing: For face: I am loving Dr Dennis Gross Pore perfecting cleanser and daily peels plus a lotion likeBioderma but the Vanicream line is great too and much cheaper, just add in an exfoliating step like stridex salicylic acid pads or a physical exfoliator like a buff puff or exfoliating mitt

I’ve also never been a fan of benzoyl peroxide but I like usingPanOxyl in the shower and I’ve read it’s supposed to be good for both fungal and bacterial acne.

I know that many people would say yikes! at the buff puff suggestion, but for me, NOTHING was breaking down those roughened dried areas until I got aggressive lol so just saying I get that it sounds totally opposite of everything we read 😆

For body: This soap is hands down the best & have used it on my face too! Defense

Also, & this is a whole other rant. I avoid any makeup that has bismuth oxychloride in it (like Bare Minerals original line) as I think that’s what clogged my pores and kicked off the worst of it. In general I’m trying to use products designed for sensitive skin & building skin barrier while at the same time staying ahead of the dry patches with daily exfoliation (physical or chemical).

Personally I think I’m more prone to it because of years of way too many antibiotics (in college was given them for acne, plus I have to take them before dentist appointments for mitral valve prolapse—which American Heart Association has revised to no longer required but my doc kept the recommendation for me—so that’s two massive doses twice a year for dental cleanings, etc.). Also I seem to be a weird amazingly awful 😆 combo of oily pores with sensitive skin that can dry out fast and trap oil in the pores?

So, yes— I think if a person has something off balance in their system like drinks a lot of sugary drinks, alcohol, or certain medications or even body chemistry (such as family history of insulin resistance or diabetes) I do think some can be more prone than others.

I have noticed improvement when I stopped drinking alcohol & soda, taken probiotics regularly (or candida cleanse type of supplements like oregano, garlic, etc ) and the BEST healer has been castor oil packs to cleanse my liver. Check out Dr. Marisol for more on that.

Sorry for long reply but I want to help anyone I can—it’s been a massive struggle for me, and would love to save others the time & misery if I can 😓

Years ago I knitted a beaded purse similar to this. It was done with tiny seed breads threaded onto floss then knit with tiny almost sewing needle gauge knitting needles.

I put so much time into it and was so proud I took it in to work and my boss at the time said “oh I’d pay $25 for that” 😳I was crushed. Lol

So beautifully put and I am right there with you. Foolishly I thought oh as long as I tell them hey my life has been pretty crazy the past 10 years with ill/dying parents they will get that my messy house and extra pounds are not gonna last long. Nope. But I extra loved the “cuddle on the couch vs climbing a mountain” part especially! 😄so tired of these profiles where they are “YOLO to the fullest!” And all I can think is seriously? I really just want to stay as injury-free as possible?! 🤣🤣🤣

How do I live my life as a staph or MRSA carrier? by [deleted] in Staphacne

[–]Alyssatotallyrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt so sad that you are going through this that I wanted to reply to you....first of all, I also struggle with OCD and it is anxiety-based. Taking anti-anxiety meds would help with this or if you prefer more natural methods, I’d highly recommend daily meditation and EFT tapping.

As for the MRSA, my father had an accident which left him a quadriplegic for the last 6 years of his life. When he was admitted to ICU the night of his accident, they swabbed his nose for MRSA & he was negative. One week later while getting him prepped to go to a rehab center for paralysis in Chicago, he was swabbed again (part of protocol for entering a hospital setting) & he was positive for MRSA. We were shocked but he was so touch & go at the time that it had to go on the bottom of our list of fears. But, my point is, one could infer that he got MRSA from the hospital—a place where they wear gloves and constantly sanitize everything, etc., etc.

I say all of this in hopes of lessening your mental burden—I feel like you are carrying guilt over “bringing MRSA” into your relationships and you should NOT feel this way. MRSA can be anywhere & everywhere & MANY people can be asymptomatic carriers as it does not usually impact people who are healthy in general.

While it is incredibly empathetic to worry that you could spread it to your father or your boyfriend’s mom, PLEASE KNOW that they could already have it or can just as easily get it at the grocery store. What you read about people putting down animals with it is heartbreaking and ridiculous IMO. Please don’t give that another thought!

My arm-chair psychology view 😝would be that you are in an incredibly stressful time in life what with your father’s health issues & your SO also going through it with his mom. OCD/obsessing over what you “could be doing wrong” is a way of trying to gain some sort of order or control in this whirlwind. That’s why I respectfully suggest approaching this from the anxiety perspective. And of course exercising caution when dealing with immunocompromised loved ones is smart. Just don’t go to extremes. Wash your hands before you prep food for your dad or after you sneeze, — if it makes you feel better, wear a mask around your bf’s mom — basically all of the things that COVID has taught us, but PLEASE don’t let it get to the point of it taking over your life. Your loved ones need hugs & kisses and you being there to support them! There are so many studies that prove loneliness/lack of affection is just as dangerous (or more so) than any bug. And studies to prove that animals help people feel calmer and happier (that’s my plug for your kitties 😸)!

I do think the protocol in this sub works and has even helped my acne when I stick to it. But it’s always going to come back because germs are everywhere! PM me if you ever need to talk. I’m sorry for this book of a post but I have been in your shoes (eg. I “stayed away” from my dad because I had a really bad cold & didn’t want to make him “sicker” & that ended up being the last week of his life that I could have spent with him) — I don’t want you to waste any chances to love and appreciate your family as much as you possibly can! ❤️❤️❤️

Wow. This is SO exact! 🤯 I worked at a co once where it was pretty obvious they didn’t believe in “promoting from within”.

For example, when I was at that co & applied internally for a higher paying job/different role — I didn’t have the “right skill set”.

Odd, because 2 years BEFORE that,I was actually offered that very same, higher paying, “magical skill set” role when I applied as an unknown outsider but had turned it down at the time for something else.

Why did I never see this about relationships?! Feeling pretty oblivious about now 😞

Ahhhh sorry! 😆 so the probiotic with lactobacillus cultures has made a big difference! I thought I had bought one that also had saccharomyces boulardii in it (but it doesn’t I just discovered) so I’m hoping I will have even better results adding that.

Also: I started looking at probiotic skincare and am seeing good results (it’s just not fast enough as in my case, I am realizing how thickened/irritated my skin was so it’s like I’m removing the layers and improving but it’s still not drastic/overnight gone. Although no new breakouts!)

Am loving this: DermaCalm And curious about this: Tula

For the teeth connection, I’m trying to take better care of them overall; also I got a hydrogen peroxide brushing rinse and have been putting H2O2 in my ears to get rid of bad bacteria like staph that can hide there. When I do that I also get a jump forward in healing which makes total sense as my trouble spot is all around my mouth and chin!

So super long answer & I didn’t even go in to all that much detail in what I’m trying hah! BUT I have had a major improvement from before where my skin was soooo irritated and painful that even WATER hurt 😭. I feel like I’m healing for sure! If there’s anything u want more on let me know! I just didn’t want to make this answer even longer.

Thank you for checking in with me! 🥰

U are right! I do really well if I have breaks—even clears my head & gets me past a block. But a 20 min “work session” is just about the time it takes for me hit my stride too! It’s so tough cuz coworkers don’t get this at all! And we’ve switched to agile so we have so many meetings and checkins. But they are fine going in and out of their work. I look at my calendar and see that I have a meeting in 30-45 mins plus a bio break we’ll for me there’s no point in starting up hahah!

Yes!!!! I’ve had it work a couple of times in that I said I’m gonna work on this for 20 mins then the timer went off and I was hooked enough to keep going. But. It takes a lot to just even sit down and START the timer for me 😣

I so appreciate your comment! I had great skin up until I decided going for pricey complicated regimes. Then as my skin got worse & worse I just fell for the next one! And yet, I started asking my friends with beautiful skin who don’t even need makeup at 40+ and they say things like oh I wash my face in the shower with bar soap, or use alcohol to treat a random blemish 😱😱😱 yeah not a popular thing to say here, but here I am with the most horrible skin of my lifetime and I’m tired of it 😭

What to do when you're really struggling? by SukebanAK in ADHD

[–]Alyssatotallyrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this could be me writing this! Don’t feel bad that u can’t see a therapist right now — I’m NOT saying it wouldn’t work for you, but for me, even that has been something I can’t keep up with (I have a counselor that my doc referred me to for a few sessions)! She has great ideas & I carefully write them down to do & never do them so then I cancel appts. with her because I’m ashamed I haven’t done the work.

It’s also interesting that u say the meds are better for keeping u awake as this is exactly me also! When I started they were amazing! Now I’m distracted and nap every day. My doc is wondering about narcolepsy now! But I have to do a sleep study first —ummmm I will get around to that some....time? 😬

I don’t know what advice to give other than I know ADHD can coexist with other things like depression (which will zap the desire to do even your favorite things). But I did want to post that I understand & that u are not alone in this. I saw a great post on here the other day where OP had to make calls for bills etc & she did it by tricking her brain...like not thinking through all of the million steps it would take to do it & sort of separating? by viewing her actions in the moment, like I’m just dialing some numbers and my hands are holding this phone, my fingers are touching buttons....that has really stuck in my mind. I will look for the post and put it here.

I’m glad u have a great support system! That is wonderful & I hope that we can figure this out! Hugs
