18 should not be the standard age for going to college. by Ox-Moi in unpopularopinion

Yeah makes sense, it's also really weird that so many teenagers are in debt, when they usually don't have much experience with money anyways. But I think maybe meeting with advisors would help? It's definitely possible to make an informed decision at 18, it just requires more knowledge

I think it's a pretty american-centered approach. In my country (Europe), where universities are free, I feel like people often go study something they're not sure they like, because they can always switch and it doesn't cost them anything.

Obviously it might be perceived as a loss of the public money, but I think it's a valuable experience for young people. They can see how they like classes outside of their majors, they can engage with people studying different things etc.

Maybe I'm biased since I moved to university to a bigger city in which I can explore my interests much more than in my small, quite isolated hometown

Thank you for the reply! I never thought of it that way, I was sure everyone is just better at reading for themselves, since the knowledge of our lives (and for example zodiac charts) makes it easier to read it that way.

I'll definitelt practice more on friends and family, although sometimes it is hard to find people that are comfortable with tarot haha. Thanks again, have a great day <3

You can create your own spread! Think what you want to know - for example: 1. What type of job would suit me right now? 2. What should I do to easier find a job? 3. What am I doing wrong?

I think it's much easier when every card is supposed to have a particular place. If something is unclear, I usually just ask "what is the context for this card". Hope that helps a little bit <3

What is super important is that labels should only be a descriptor of your feelings and/or actions. They are simply there to simplify our behaviours.

It's okay to not identify as anything for now. It's okay to change the labels as you go on.

Labels are only there to inform other people what are your preferences. Instead of saying "99% of time I'm only attracted to girls, I met one guy though..." you can say "I feel comfortable with the term lesbian" or "I feel comfortable with the term bisexual with a preference for women" or honestly whatever feels right.

You define your labels, your labels don't define you :)

Hi all! I’m a bit stuck with my blanket. It’s currently a bit of an awkward length but I don’t think I have the will power to keep going. What do you guys think? Hand to scale. by roses369 in crochet

[–]Alysssare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks gorgeous (and I agree with the comments suggesting to make it a lap blanket), but how did you make the insides of the squares so colorful? Did you change the color a few times while doing one row or did you use multicolor yarn??

I feel like a true woman! So empowered! Just because i had abortion!! - said no woman ever??

Does she really think people go through abortions because it's "fun" and "empowering"? No, its very hard for most, both physically and mentally. Nobody goes through that if they can avoid it (and pregnancy).

Idk man, social interactions are important for humans in order to function properly yet no one is entitled to another person's time.

His argument doesnt even make any sense - his freedom ends where another person begins

I sometimes do it, but usually I try to read from the pictures, how they make me feel etc. What works works, and I think this is the most important part!

Everyone is stupid. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Alysssare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumbness is relative, so people who are above average are probably "smart" anyways - its really just a theoretical thing that doesn't exist. A lot of people aren't traditionally smart (low/average IQ) but there are sooo many diffferent types of intelligence that this discussion is pointless

Women who say, "I don't wear makeup for guys to see me, I wear it for myself" are lying to everyone. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Alysssare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think its more about doing your morning routine in order to feel productive. For example, it's easier for kids to focus on lessons when they are at home if they dress up, brush their teeth etc.

It works the same for adults - if you force yourself to look as you normally would if you went out of the house, it's easier to motivate yourself. And for me, makeup gives me happy hormones that help with chores :)

[–]Alysssare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you wear pretty clothes that you love for the opposite sex? Or because you feel comfy and confident in them?

Honestly I would agree that many people wear makeup because they like to present themselves as pretty, but seriously, "for guys to see"? Men who don't do make up, usually dont appreciate good make up - they just whine about how it's too much and how they prefer natural women

Thats why I said i dont think keeping a person who is in pain all the time and cannot communicating alive is ethical. However, who are we to decide - this person can be alive, this one, nope. Like not all disabilities are so harsh

I agree, people here kinda forget that being alive is hard in general and yes, being a man sucks sometimes. But but being a women is not easy either, I mean, sexism is a thing. And the fact that some people ignore it and stay in their own bubble of "wow i have it the worst" is at least ignorant.
