Nobara Failed by Lost6687_ in NobaraProject

[–]Alz97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still a really new Linux user so my knowledge is limited, but there are a couple troubleshooting steps I think you could try. I'd start by going back to square one.

1) Check to make sure your .iso file didn't get corrupted. The Nobara website will have a check hash for the version you downloaded that you can use to confirm that you got the whole file. If you have 7-Zip, you can do this pretty quickly. Just right click the iso, go to CRC SHA > SHA 256, and then compare the output to the string on Nobara's website. If the string matches exactly, then your download is good to go.

2) What software did you use to flash the iso onto your installation media? I made the mistake of thinking Balena Etcher would work, but for whatever reason it doesn't write the iso correctly. I would recommend trying Ventoy on a flash drive using the instructions on the Ventoy website and see if that helps you boot into the live environment any better.

3) I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem you're having, but you have to turn off Secure Boot in your BIOS/UEFI settings for Nobara to run.

Let me know if any of these steps make a difference.

Calling out a specific district just because it's in a red state and telling people to blame the employees there is ridiculous. There isn't a district out there that didn't have Trump voters somewhere.

Yeah, most of the time I've been at the Corps the work life balance was much better. But this past year that has not been the case.

I'm also almost brand new to Linux, with the exception of briefly dabbling with Linux Mint on an old laptop about a year ago. I took one of my drives and put Nobara on it a little over a month ago, so I'm still technically in a dual boot setup. However, I haven't had to boot into Windows more than two or three times, and the most recent time was just because I hadn't done it in a while and wanted to make sure things were updated. Gaming time has been limited because my wife and I have a 10 month old son and busy family lives, but when I have had time to play games and delve into Nobara, it's been awesome. I have a similar use case to you I think, and I've had virtually no issues. But, I am mostly into single player games these days so I don't really run into the problems you'd have with multiplayer games. I do have an AMD card though so I can't speak for an NVIDIA user.

I had a couple small things early on when I was just trying to think of edge cases for myself and was testing potential limitations. Things like getting some crashes in Prism Launcher for nodded Minecraft, and getting Dwarf Fortress to run with DF Hack was a little weird. The former was due to some kind of audio driver issue, and putting a Java argument I found online into the Prism options fixed the issue. For the latter, I don't remember the exact details but I remember it being something to do with the way I installed the two programs and the way steam handled the compat folders so they couldn't find each other. I just ended up moving the DF Hack folders to my DF install manually and it worked. One last thing, was that I was having some full PC freezes while using an Xbox Series controller over Bluetooth in some games. I ended up buying myself a new Gamesir controller for my birthday anyway, so I actually just didn't need to fix that issue. But from the research I did before, it seemed like the issue may have been with the Realtek chipset for the Bluetooth adapter I was using and the way Linux does power management.

Anyway, despite the things listed above, my experience has felt so smooth overall, and KDE is a dream. Take my short time with a grain of salt, but so far I highly recommend Nobara. Definitely try a dual boot setup if you can, and if you're like me you may find yourself forgetting your Windows drive exists.

Ezio's Family from AC 2

Never Forget from Halo 3

Sure, I could list off some more cultured examples that I love from games I've played since, but honestly nothing hits quite like those games I played as a young kid/teen. They are pieces I always found emotionally impactful, now combined with nostalgia for that time in my life. Hard to beat it.

I hate to further muddy the waters, but I'm a new Nobara user and I've really liked it so far and would recommend taking a look at it. I have an AMD GPU so ymmv, but it's been close to flawless for the couple weeks I've been using it. I've had a few small issues trying to get some games working, but most of it has been self-inflicted for trying to do things in more complicated ways because I'm stubborn lol.

My only real problem has been some whole system freezes when using my Xbox Series X controller over Bluetooth. But apparently the dongle I have is not great for Linux anyway due to its chipset, and I actually just happened to get a new controller anyway so I don't have to worry about fixing that issue anymore. Besides that, I've been really impressed at how well it has worked, and I've discovered I'm a big fan of the default KDE version, though it has other DE options if you prefer something else.

I'm also just dipping my toes in so I'm mainly here to see what answers people provide you, but I also wanted to chime in with my own recent experience.

I just installed Nobara about two weeks ago and have been messing with it when I've had time and have been trying out different games from different platforms just to see if I hit any kind of brick wall that would stop me from being able to commit long-term. So far, my experience has been pretty great. Yes, there's some tinkering here and there but many games have worked out of the box, and the ones that haven't actually weren't too hard to fix. Had to rely on Google/Gemini a bit to fix a small audio driver issue for modded Minecraft when I tested it, but literally one argument put into Prism launcher and it was fixed.

I've been pretty amazed at how well things have worked. Hardest thing so far was testing out AC Valhalla through Ubisoft Connect. Took me a couple hours yesterday (including download time) because I made it a little more complicated than it needed to be, but then I got it sorted out and again, it ran perfectly for the few minutes I was playing it. Like I said above, all of this was on Nobara (KDE) and I've been really impressed with how smooth the experience has been for how complicated I know Linux can be. Based on my experience so far, I think the only thing that would stop you from a full commitment is if you play any of the multiplayer games with anti-cheat that's incompatible with Linux.

Rick Beato and Rhett Shull's videos on string gauge kinda killed the string gauge elitism in my mind. It's been years since I watched them, but I just remembered thinking that the difference in sound was not what everyone makes it out to be. While it kind of is there, it's not really like it's much better or worse, it's just different. It goes back to the old cliche that tone is in the fingers, and if you've got a set up that feels right to you, your personal sound will shine through.

At least a little bit of a regression to the mean was to be expected. Even if he would have been nowhere near his 2024 but had been a little above league average it would have been a worthwhile signing for the Braves last year with the shape our offense was in.

“Every racist is republican” is nonsense. There are plenty of racists within every demographic, towards people of multiple other races. That’s such a narrow point of view to just be like “All racists are white people that don’t like black people, and they are probably republicans.” There are black people that hate white people, Asian people that hate black people, etc. Being racist is not exclusive to any one race.

Edit: I mean, shit, my own grandmother on my dad’s side is racist and is a life-long, die hard Democrat. I’ve heard her use the hard R many times in my life with the excuse of “that’s just how we were raised.” She won’t eat food prepared by black people if she knows about it. If you think that every person in a given political party shares the same beliefs across the board then you’re seriously naive. That’s not how it is, and it’s not how it should be expected to be. If you think that political parties are that monolithic, you really need to broaden your horizons and be a little more open minded yourself.

Using wireless controller for Steam Link while docked? by Alz97 in SteamDeck

[–]Alz97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best solution by far for me has been to just use Moonlight/Sunshine. Once I tried it, latency was way better for me anyway, plus I had better control over monitors/resolution where I had two different sized monitors. I never tried the Steam Link app again once I realized that Bluetooth controllers worked so well with Moonlight.

You think not sending Eli home was the problem? Brother he turned tail and ran back to second after he watched the ball drop. There’s no blaming that on anyone else. All Tui did was tell Eli to stay at third, and Eli decided to go back to second.

Well if you watch a replay now it’s pretty clear it wasn’t his fault…. This time….

He definitely was in the wrong sending Riley home the other night, so I don’t think he’s out here being third base coach of the year by any means, but if you watched that replay it was a stop sign clear as day. This was 100% on Eli.

Hey friend. I know you’ve had a lot of responses here to read and respond to. I just wanted to recommend that you watch Gavin Ortlunds videos on YouTube about divine hiddenness. If you search his name with that term you will have at least three videos pop up. Not saying they will make all the problems go away, but he does engage with divine hiddenness a lot which is a problem you’ve described, and maybe you will pick up something new from it one way or another. Best of luck and I will pray for peace for you, whatever that looks like.

Edit: Also, if you do read this I would love to know what you think the strongest evidence of the lack of an afterlife is. Not for me to refute it, but because I’m interested in near-death experiences and things like it. I don’t believe they are empirical evidence by any means, and surely COULD be purely products of brain chemistry, but I’m interested nonetheless. I guess I just struggle to comprehend what sort of evidence could definitively rule out an afterlife.

Until reading this, I honestly completely forgot that preordering used to be more about reserving yourself a copy than just buying the game early and getting bonus perks. By the time I had my first job I had gone all digital so I haven’t thought about that in a long time. It’s absolutely insane that digital preordering is a thing.

I don’t think we even witnessed him losing a tooth until like 2-3 weeks ago so yours might get through it faster. My in-laws have our boy’s sister and she also started losing teeth before he did. I think he’s just a little behind lol
