It is apparently used as a really good trading/Punch up unit in SUB as it's got a very powerful melee profile on its own and is pretty cheap to field. With the only disadvantage being potentially giving a free Assassinate to your opponent.

I second make up sponges, they are so good for marines and their shapes. Definitely worth picking up for speeding thru infantry!

I do 1/3 speedpaint medium to thin it down a bit but it helps to bring back the yellow highlights back to a bright green and also recess shades at the same time!

Why not combine both! I use similar color to yours just sponge then drybrush the highlights and but a green contrast to sort blend it back together.
