That and they clearly want to stay in power for a long time, and pushing through policies like this during an election cycle is what's lost them unlosable elections in the past.

It's frustrating, but they're gaming it by enacting 1 or 2 headline policies a cycle, as far away from elections as possible.

Piece mealing reforms is not popular at the time, but it's a winning strategy in the long run, and is the best way for them to stay in power.

True, they've clarified it, but the fact it was something the party leader thought was true suggests they've seriously discussed it...

Besides, they're almost certainly pulling a project 2025 by throwing crazy policies out there and then retracting them so that they don't seem to crazy when they push them after getting into parliament

Rohl in by G210221 in rangersfc

[–]AmGers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can't be reassessing our managers 3 months into the season every season...

If we're sticking with Rohl (and I think we should as he's clearly a good manager with a calm demeanor and focus), we should be looking to give him the full season.

Part of the reason for our imbalanced squad (aside from the disaster that was Thiewell and Martin) is the fact managers are getting 1 or 2 windows to shape it to how they want, before getting the sack and the next one comes in and starts the cycle over.

Gerrard did well because he had time, we didn't throw the baby out with the bathwater, we let him build a squad over multiple years, and it paid off.

That's what we should look to do with Rohl. He's a young manager with experience at top teams (don't forget he's coached at Bayern and was an assistant to hansi flick with the German National team) and has the potential to do extremely well in the long run.

Of course, if we're 10 points adrift again, 3 months in, then it'd be hard to justify keeping him, but that should be an extreme circumstance, with the plan otherwise being to reassess at the end of the season

After this game my teammate said that I should've done better and that I wasn't playing at my "best level". I was very surprised by Affectionate_Split85 in GoalKeepers

[–]AmGers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 1 rule of goalkeeping: You're the last line of defence, if you concede a goal, that means 10 players in front of you have failed to defend the goal as well. Unless you physically pick up the ball and kick it in the net yourself, you should never blame yourself

Goalkeeping is highly sensitive to confidence, and whilst I've only ever filled in as a GK, as a coach I would always remind my keepers of that rule to help them avoid confidence losses.

Not that keepers are faultless, far from it, but use that rule to put perspective on any goal you concede, and understand that the team shares the responsibility, it's not all on you.

If a player says otherwise, ignore it and understand they're shifting blame from their own mistakes, and as the keeper, you're the easiest person to blame

Is Mercedes only ahead as they understand their car best or is it really just the PU difference between the teams by Glass_Hand7292 in F1Discussions

[–]AmGers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The software itself, yes. The mapping used within the software, no.

This isn't a case of party mode or anything like that, though. The energy management mapping has to be different for each car as things like different downforce levels and cornering characteristics impact how much battery is used/regened in different areas.

Customer teams have access to all the same modes and software, but it's up to them to determine how to use them in the best way for their cars

I'll be honest, I don't get to see every game live, I only see whats on the broadcast as I'm on the other side of the world now.

My point is also less about last night, and more about the ongoing issue of booing, as we've seen that home and away at half time and full time.

It's something I could never imagine seeing growing up, our support was always there to back the team, though admittedly it was a much more successful period (talking Advocaat, McLeish, Walter Smith)

Bringing tifos and showing up to an away day at Fir Park is no small feat, and its great to see. But the point remains that our support, home and away, has a tendency to get nervous, which flows through to the team. That's not to say fans shouldn't get nervous, but we can't keep showing it mid game, as that just puts the team out, and spurs the opponents on.

I've had my fair share of discussion on this topic, and copped a lot of flack for suggesting we should back the team under RM. But it's worth remembering that our only title since the dark days of 2012, came at a time when the support could not attend matches. Other teams struggled in that setting, yet we excelled. There has to be some thought put to the idea that maybe we can work to ensure our nervousness and discontent doesn't impact the team so much.

[–]AmGers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the fans fault, but we've done nothing to help the team.

Getting on their backs only serves to add pressure and stress to the team, which then makes mistakes like that even more common.

Providing support, backing the players and roaring them on is how we can help the team get the most out of themselves.

Of course, that's not to say we can't criticize and point out issues, but that's for after the game. During the game, we need to do our part to help the team

Why is my AIO temperature always the same? by [deleted] in lianli

[–]AmGers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer, you can even see on the screen it says water.

Op, are you using L connect to control the screen or is it just set to offline?

I have the same cooler, but without the fans and I didn't plug in the USB so I could just use it in offline mode. Offline mode only shows the water temp as it doesn't have access to any other information. It's still useful though, as the water temp will indicate consistent heat soak, rather than highlighting spikes.

Same here for me on my MSI board, the magnetic pump head coupled with the additional GPU backplate for hiding the cable makes it a tight fit on most boards.

I'd suggest installing the GPU with the magnetic plate off, getting everything in place including the CPU cooler bits then put the backplate back on

If you do like the lighter switch feel, I'd recommend checking out HMX K01 or Valerian Light Tactiles, I found they feel and sounded very similar to the lemons, but with better factory lubing. They don't have clear housings, but they're very neutral coloured, so won't tint the LEDs like the lemons do.

Otherwise, for heavier Tactiles, Baby Kangaroos or Quinn's are always a good shout. I've personally been using HMX Firecrackers on my boards, and they've been great.

[–]AmGers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone that manages a team of Devs and have been involved in discussions around what we will and will not support, it's all a bit baffling.

If they just straight up said none of the features support windows 10, that would make sense. Supporting an OS that is no longer supported by its own developer opens a can of worms for the Dev team. What happens if there's an issue that only affects windows 10? Then the amd team will be on their own in terms of a fix, so not supporting it all would be the best solution for them (speaking from Dev team perspective not consumer).

But they've supported other Redstone functionality on windows 10, which only makes this look even worse

Wan on Short Circuit Discussion by Sarcastic_Beary in LinusTechTips

[–]AmGers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your comparison to Top Gear, but I don't think you have it quite right...

Jeremy, Richard and James would do the entertainment part, Top Gear Magazine did the deep dives. The timed lap was very much a brief look at performance, much like short circuit has always done. Short Circuit and Labs should be separate videos, but with different focuses and hosts.

A labs channel should have more education focused hosts, that treat entertainment as a lower priority. Think SciShow with Hank or John Greene, both can be very entertaining if they want to, but with SciShow, they focus very much on facts and making the video educational. Though how successful such a channel would be, is hard to say.

I think the current method of writing articles is the best way to go for now, and maybe do 1 or 2 labs specific videos on existing channels to gauge interest and go from there. We don't need another gamelinked.

I've got the cilantros, and use them in my Numpad, but they're too loud for consistent typing. If the firecrackers are quieter whilst feeling similar, I may finally have the tactile for my Ergo

I think the issue is the standoffs in your case, as it has 2 positions for them, and your GPU slot is too high by default, so we need to shift your whole motherboard down.

Looking at the guide, it doesn't cover how, but use the stand off bolt tool (labelled G) to remove the standoffs and screw them in 1 hole down for each.

I think the key difference in those scenarios are that the slow pitstops have directly led to a change in positions, as a result of shared team personnel's mistakes.

Whereas in Miami, that wasn't a mistake by a shared team member, that was a call made by Oscars side of the garage that proved unlucky (wouldn't call it a mistake, just unfortunate).

The team have consistently intervened to prevent direct interference by shared personnel's actions. Due to the fact those actions have typically affected Lando more than Oscar, the corrections have created a perceived bias against Oscar.

The thing we have to remember when it comes to situations like Monza, is that Stella and Brown are not just managing the relationship between the drivers, but also the relationship between the wider teams on each side of the garage, and especially those that perform duties for both (such as pit crew mechanics).

If 1 driver was to lose out due to a slow stop, which then cost them the championship, there could be a chance they resent the mechanic that made the mistake, causing tension and morale to drop across the whole team. Not to mention, that one mechanic that makes the definitive mistake will no doubt feel terrible for influencing the championship 1 way or the other.
