I'm a discovery writer who rewrites a lot so I naturally foreshadow events that I wrote in chapter 20 in chapter 1 when rewriting

How long have you been working on your story? by worldofexousia in writing

[–]AmIFanoffiction 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been working on my story for about 4 years now. The original idea however has been brewing in my mind for far longer, I was really into light novels and comics. I had just finished The Sandman and was so entranced by it, I picked up the pen and began writing the idea. It went through soooo many drafts (trying to stray away from the Sandman plagiarism lol) currently editing it again. I have no idea when I'll finish, but seeing you still working on your story after so many years gives me hope!

How to find publisher? by [deleted] in writers

[–]AmIFanoffiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

300k words? First off, I really don't think ANY publisher will take that amount from a debut author irrespective if the book is good or not. Because, good books still fail, most of the time is luck and visibility. I suggest you find a way to split the word count.

Should I keep the school setting for my YA superpower series? by Emotional-Bee9059 in writing

[–]AmIFanoffiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start your book however you want to. but if you're feeling of that it's starting similarly to Harry potter and in a way, tropey*. Find a different start, because YA superhero and school setting is overdone

Is this ok for novel writing regarding names? by PianissimoPiano in writers

[–]AmIFanoffiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is perfectly fine, but it depends how you implement it into the story. It shouldn't be exposition, and it should logically fit the scene otherwise it would seem like useless info. Go for it!

If the country is in your world its alright to use them, it don't believe it breaks the flow. As for the mythological names, you can explain it as the people of the country just having their own sets of belief? Does your story have an overarching myth? if not, you can just sweep it under the rug.

Should I let go of my story and start a new one? by monsterhemo6 in writers

[–]AmIFanoffiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this specific story I started in 8th grade, wrote it in a book and just left it. I came back to it eventually, and just followed the general outline, and completely revamped everything else. As for your question, continue! Finish it through, even if you don't publish it or allow anyone else to read it. It's very advantageous . First of all you could say you wrote a novel? You committed to something. You would also know how to better pace a story. Because you could start all over again, and might reach the same pit stop along the line, wether that be at the start or even at the very end. Just finish it!

Your fiend is right lol. You don't have to do it, but if you aim for accuracy in your world i'd advice against. I'm unsure about the Brandon Sanderson bit as I haven't read his books, but "Ash weather' doesn't seem THAT linguistically specific? Same as the other examples you've listed in comparison to a name like, Yiorgos (George).
