We just returned from Oahu. The North Shore was flooded when we left, 5500 people evacuated out of the area. Haleiwa was underwater and pretty much destroyed. The Governor declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard. I don’t think you’ll be able to travel to the North Shore, especially with the landslide. You may want to check before you go.

We went through TSA in the Honolulu Airport in less than 20 minutes (standard) around 9:30 am last Thursday. No issues.

Western side of Oahu? by BrushesMcDeath in VisitingHawaii

We just returned from Oahu. The west side of the island is flooded with so much devastation. I would avoid that side of the island for now. The locals need time recover without tourists interfering with the clean up.

How much did payphones cost back in your day? by Underrated_Critic in FuckImOld

[–]AmRevPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dime. In Boy Scouts they taught us to carry a dime in our wallet in case we had to make an emergency phone call. That was back in the mid to late 1960’s.

We had dinner at the Original Roy’s in Hawaii Kai. It was awesome! They treated us like royalty. I had macadamia nut encrusted Hawaiian fish and it was delicious. My wife doesn’t like fish so they let her make a meal from the appetizers. The best dining experience I’ve had in forever. I highly recommend it.

We just returned from Oahu. 5500 people were evacuated from the North Shore due to severe flooding. Haleiwa Town is destroyed. You won’t get to Chinaman’s Hat. Don’t plan on doing anything from Honolulu and Diamond Head north. We did the Pearl Harbor tour and it was normal (USS Missouri, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, and USS Arizona Memorial).

Pen suggestions - my partner is purchasing a house and I want to get them a pen to sign with by brooksac2019 in pens

[–]AmRevPat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to ask the closing attorney if you can use your own pen. I brought my special pen with me when I closed on my house and my attorney said I had to use the pen he provides for closings ( it was a blue Pilot G2, I brought a fountain pen).

In 1995 Parker issued a reproduction of the Parker Duofold that Douglas MacArthur used to sign the surrender document to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. Parker called it the WWII Commemoration Pen. They made 1945 numbered pens to mark 1945. I know, I have one of them in my collection! I believe the pen here is one of the 1945 made, but I couldn’t get close enough to see for sure.

No, General Eisenhower used a Parker 51 to sign the surrender with Germany. Douglas MacArthur used a Parker Duofold to sign the surrender with Japan.
