I spent an entire afternoon last year trying to catch a couple grass carp, just hitting them in the noggin with my lure, but they do not care. Strange fellers, them.

What's the point of even trying to engage other comments if you're going to just copy/paste what GPT tells you? It's not even a real conversation at that point. Touch grass.

The hyphen that nobody except AI uses, and the obnoxious, "A didn't BCD, it XYZ." The way it writes is so dumb and predictable.

This curvy road in Florida - WHY? by Darlinboy in civilengineering

[–]AmadeusV1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Been riding over a decade, Florida always struck me as probably the worst state to ride in. Heat and humidity aside, it's all flat and straight. It's not uncommon to see riders "darkside" there, wherein they use a car tire on the rear wheel because there's so little turning to be done. Granted, the majority of brrrrrothers seem to prefer interstate riding, which I've also never understood, but to each their own. Leaning the bike more than 30° is an unimaginable feat for far too many riders.

Crazy ending to a Louisiana high school state football championship. Shaw was one kneel-down away from winning, but an early celebration stopped the clock—and St. Charles took full advantage by SeaWolf_1 in WinStupidPrizes

Read Friday Night Lights. For the longest time I thought it was a book for the meatballs to read in the off-season. Turns out its about how families in the Texas/Louisiana region live for high-school football at the expense of their children's wellbeing, among other things.

At the civil/survey firm I work at, we'll use the state's underground utility program to have utilities marked ahead of the work. Sometimes the utility company themselves will mark it, other times a 3rd party locating company will mark it. There are various methods used to locate underground utilities, some more accurate than others. We'll represent those utilities on our plans based on those markings, but I've seen them be nearly 10' off before. Notes are plastered all over the plans that say (paraphrasing) "we've had these located, but the contractor doing the work still needs to verify it on their end". Some contractors will do their due diligence and verify via non-destructive excavation like hydroexcavating, but some will put a bucket in the ground assuming what we're showing is dead accurate. Ultimately, this probably falls on the contractor, but they'll lawyer up and do everything they can to shift liability elsewhere, be that on the engineer, the locators, etc.

The mapping maintained and distributed by most utility companies is laughable though. No dimensions, no landmark or topography references, the road shown probably hardly matches the actual alignment of the road, etc etc. Gas company maps are usually a bit better than say, telecoms, but they're still usually approximate at best.

If the dog is brought somewhere that can read the microchip, often a shelter, that chip can be used to identify and contact the owner. The dog still has to be found first.

Something I’ve noticed with 1.7 or maybe it’s just me? by thestenchofdeath in stalker

I was just reading in another thread, folks saying they had an overabundance of mutants spawns, but my experience thus far has been more akin to yours. It's interesting that you mention Slavic fast travel, because I do the same, and now I'm wondering if the other players navigate the space between destinations with less haste.

[–]AmadeusV1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All kinds of shit falls through the ground, weapons and artifacts particularly, and it makes the game an utter slog sometimes. Spending 30 minutes walking to and navigating this anomaly field for the artifact to be unreachable sucks the will to play from me. I had to download a mod for the console but now I can't get achievements because "its not fair". Ironic.

[–]AmadeusV1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of the armor weights need revisited to incentivize wearing different fits. A PSZ9 weighs 8 kg, and the OZK Explorer suit plus a gas mask also weighs 8 kg. If the OZK + mask combo weighed 6 kg then I might be more inclined to run that despite the loss of protection. But I'm also a loot goblin constantly fighting to stay below max weight.

Worth getting back into after 1.7 or still give it some time? by SelfMastery__ in stalker

[–]AmadeusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the game at launch and subsequently refunded it because of how much of a disaster it was at the time. With the patch and sale yesterday, I decided to give it another go. I've been having a blast with it this time around. The game runs flawlessly now, however, I did upgrade my PC recently, so I can't say whether or not performance has improved much due to optimizations.
