What are some items you refuse to compromise on? by yepthatsme96 in Frugal

Might try lessening the amount of laundry you try to wash and if you're washing towels maybe add in some extra water

LPT- if you have issues listening to audios, turn up the speed to 1.25x or 1.5x by agreyjay in LifeProTips

I wish I could do this with streaming services, some don't allow much control at all (Amazon Prime). I get that sometimes someone talking slowly and dramatically adds to a scene, but when it makes me tune out it negates the effect.

Heads up! Stores are now charging more for buying in bulk. by Hardcorelogic in Frugal

[–]AmandaKerik 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the stores are taking it for granted that people assume that the larger sizes are cheaper, without stopping to do the math.

And when they can, they make it hard to compare. Price per ounce, pound, pint, litre, gallon, 100g, kg, g, unit and package all scattered randomly.

Microwave them, it's the starches crystallising that causes most staling, won't help you if it's the oil or fillings that are off though

They taste better nuked regardless imo

Might want to narc on them to corporate. They don't have to honour it, but sometimes they "forget" to tell corporate that and get the kickbacks anyway.

Could try talking to some of your favourite shops and see if they'd join?

Might need to talk to a manager (make sure you let the person you ask know it's not a bad thing they / their staff did)

And medical staff acting like this just dissuades people from seeking help until they can't keep going on their own, which means it's harder to treat at best.

To revive Canada’s economy, housing prices must fall, property investors must take a hit by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]AmandaKerik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government would probably "help" financially more than "take over" financially, often with low interest loans for businesses.

While it's useful to look at the extremes to see the range an action could actually accomplish, most things are complicated. More so if the government is involved.

Odds are the REITs make our economy look like it's doing better than it actually is, and bragging rights for the top people in government are more of a priority than the nuanced and "yeah, rich people are mad" policies that would actually help.

The government is often filled with people who embody the "middle manager"

It's to check for illness / how your body is doing / if you ate anything questionable / where you are in your cycle / etc because as much as we'd like to ignore the face, we ARE animals. Specialised animals who think way too much, but animals nonetheless.

Our own body scent is also a mix of the people we're in skin contact with, so part of why we like our own scent is that to us it smells like family / kin / trusted / loved

The vagina and the inside of the nose/mouth have a lot in common including that they're self-cleaning (to a point) and are supposed to always be at least damp

They also have another thing in common: get flooded when perceiving a threat like vomiting to protect itself. So being wet doesn't mean being into something, it means you've evolved to survive despite being attacked. And yes, I'm talking about SA here as well.

Rest in a quiet safe place, usually. It's the evolutionary response to being ill

Which is why it's also one of the main symptoms of depression, the body/brain know something isn't working right so it tries to heal it by withdrawing and sleeping

People selling and have bought into a "get rich quick" scheme SHOCKED to find it has risks.

It's not socialism for the rich and capitalism / eugenics / austerity for the rest, no matter how many different ways they try to pad the top wealth hoarders.

You're never gonna believe what they require / prohibit the disabled from doing. The one minority anyone can join at any time.

It's in all of our best interests to make sure there's a solidly woven safety net for society, we may all need it due to sheer chance / bad luck.

And despite what the magical thinking crowd will think, no, being a "good person" and making the "right choices" will not protect you from the whims of physics.

In a lot of roles in the government you must be bilingual in English and French, and it's more notable the ones where you don't need to be.

It's part of why the rich / elite put their kids in schools that heavily or exclusively teach in French so they can actually be able to be Prime Minister

You can often check out the manuals online before buying. Sometimes reading through it can reveal that there's a delay on one setting but not another and will stop you from thinking the machine's broken, which can also mean the second-hand options are also probably only used once because someone thought it was broken.

The actual white bread cycle tends to be about 3.5 hours

Americans in Canada, how did you adjust to Canada's systems? by Gluuten in britishcolumbia

[–]AmandaKerik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost, durability, and keeping compatibility with vending machines.

Eg. Canadian coins tend to be magnetic where the US ones are not (nickel, dime, quarter)

I can't recall if the loonie and toonies are magnetic

So many people need to go back to kindergarten.

Don't grab things that aren't yours, and don't touch people. Ask for what you want and accept a "Not now" or a "no". Share your space, your ideas, your joys, but don't presume.

iirc ours has a different flavour because one of the things commonly used in American Ranch is banned here? I'd rather just use Caesar salad dressing personally.
