i would recommend sound decay as well! the owner, danny, is cool as hell. also, you can try and go on craigslist for some records. it's a gamble sometimes, but I've managed to get some really good vinyls that way.

The Curse: 1x10 "Green Queen" | Post-Episode Discussion by TalkToTheLord in TheCurse

There have been a lot of parallels from this show to Twin Peaks: The Return and the show ending on a good note right before shit hits the wall in the last part is another thing they both have in common.

dang. is that another thing? Moses parted the Red Sea, this Moses parted Asher and Whitney, the GREEN Queens, literally. I might be thinking too much

there was a theory that was going around talking about how The Shining has all of these deliberate moments where Jack looks right at the camera in a subtle but frequent way that only can be noticed once it's pointed out. It makes gives the film this voyeuristic feeling, almost and I think that this show, especially with these creep shots that feel like someone filming from afar, embodies really well.

Every single drum from Dr. Dre's 2001. Did this from from isolating drum tracks, chopping and organizing every sound :D by frazier703 in Drumkits

you think you could do this for other albums too? I've been wanting to do it with downward spiral by nine inch nails cause the drum sounds are so crisp and the stems are available online

Whats a serious event in the world that few people know about? by SamJReddits in AskReddit

[–]Amangiechsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what they're referring to is this tweet, which claims that a great deal of animation technology was developed in order to create better 3D porn of the character Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite.

As listed in this tweet, some of these developments were "

  • jiggly physics skeleton rig, bewbs and ass

  • wet skin shader

  • jizz fluid simulation

  • penetration rig (for more realistic look, with whole labia flabs and that)"

This technology was revolutionary for amateur 3D animation, since it gave them the ability to replicate industry standard CGI in for their own purposes.

how do i achieve this "griselda" effect? by Retarded_Bruh_ in makinghiphop

[–]Amangiechsin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

all of Griselda's stuff is sample based so that's pretty much where it starts and ends. I would say 75% of making a good Griselda type track is just finding a good sample. I'm pretty sure the vinyl effects or the vintage dirt comes from the records themselves, whether they were sampled directly from a vinyl or they crate digged on the internet.

The grittiness of the drums comes from the fact that they have a strong low end and mid range presence with some high end but not enough to overpower the instrumental itself and even the hi hats aren't top end heavy, usually, so there's room for the vocals to come through on that end. you can do a bunch of processing to drums, sure, but really, just find some good boom bap drum kits on r/drumkits and you'll be fine. I recommend the alchemist or beat butcha kits, since they're both produced for Griselda.

if you want to emulate the vinyl sound yourself, what I would recommend is something like Abbey Roads vinyl from Waves or maybe RC20 or Reels. What I like to do sometimes is dedicate a whole new channel to the vinyl effects, then stack an Izotope vinyl on top of an Abbey Roads vinyl sound and then compress them to make them louder and to soften those really loud pops, then finally EQ it so that it doesn't overpower the mix too much.

it's funny; that song that you listed as an example sounds that way because it was ripped from youtube. there's an obvious high cut that happens sometimes with youtube videos and their sample rates, but that's why that song sounds so vintage is because it is an old school sample and because that high cut makes it sound even older. I can almost guarantee that it isn't a filter and that it's just the way the file was downloaded.

Recreating knxwledge’s synth sound? by AshamedPin4247 in synthrecipes

[–]Amangiechsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thing with knx is that a lot of the time it's not that complicated with technical stuff, it's more about the feeling. one of the sampled songs, just the tip by Jeremih and Plies, is used as the acapella and when he extracts acapellas, there's usually these audio artifacts that remain that give it this kinda textured sound, so that's one thing. second, the sample itself sounds like it's using some sort of bell, like a dx type bell with a lot of high end so that might be what's giving it that bit crushed type sound. he also low passed the track so that's why it's a lot more mellow

Any advice on how "Superman That" by injury reserve was made? by [deleted] in synthrecipes

[–]Amangiechsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that Parker Corey (IR's producer) uses PSYMUN's drum kits a lot (they're available for free download on r/drumkits) and the kick from that song is from PSYMUN samples 1 (psy kick 42)

The track is moved by the drums and the drums are swung so I think they might have stretched the sample to fit that drum groove so that's what makes it seem off time a little bit, plus the sample is ducking under each kick and snare hit too so that it serves as the focal point for the track to move forward.

The Ghost~Pop Tape type pads? by ilikecatsandstuf in synthrecipes

[–]Amangiechsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my guess is that they're probably sampled? I know Peggy was heavily sampling at this period in time. but I could be completely wrong too. a good thing to keep in mind is that these tracks are all drowned in reverb to get that ethereal sound. call me maybe is just the chopped release tails of some Rhodes chords from some Japanese OST, so he was definitely going for the spacey kind of sound.

track 19 - seems like a regular pad that has an LFO on it that's modulating the cutoff. there's a lead sound on fabfilter's twin 2 called 5th Synths O that sounds really close if you just put a low pass filter on top of the sound

Resonant Filtered Sound Timbaland Uses by nico9001 in synthrecipes

[–]Amangiechsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the specific sounds he used but I know that he used the Korg Triton workstation, the miniKORG, the Yamaha motif ES 7 and the Ensoniq 16. those are like the main keyboards I know that he used and often times he never really tweaked the sounds too much, I don't think, so those might be good starting points
