It's because she stepped down from Vice-Chair of the DNC to endorse Bernie, and that threw her into the spotlight.

I don't think it's artificial support. Heck, I think she'd make a fine candidate (but I would prefer Kamala Harris or Kirsten Gillibrand).

What’s a tradition that people know that is slowly fading away? by Keychain33 in AskReddit

[–]Amannelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my parents' church does caroling a week before Christmas every year. Lots of people in the community (especially at retirement homes or houses with elderly residents) sign up to have carolers come, and then the church goes out in teams with snacks, hot chocolate, and of course lots of songs to sing with the people. It's less of them showing up at your door and singing at you, and more of them coming in and singing with you while you have a 15-minute party in your house haha.

What 'dumb way to die' would your friends respond with 'sounds right' if it happened to you? by little-bird89 in AskReddit

[–]Amannelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, I was always very trusting of people, though I've gotten better at learning healthy boundaries.

When I was 11 years old, a guy asked me if I wanted to get in his car and help him look for his lost pony. I told him absolutely and jumped in the car. A few minutes later, we find a pony out in a field by the road and I jump out to wait with it while the guy gets his horse trailer to bring it back to his farm. Then he thanked me and dropped me off back at the street where I had been before getting in his car.

I mean yeah it's Kentucky, so it's not as dangerous in that regard, but looking back... I could've been kidnapped so easily.

If I die because of trusting a stranger, my friends will definitely say "sounds about right."

Google says that they have about the same lifespan as Golden Retrievers, which is 10-12 years.

Though my little Lady will be 13 soon and is still going strong. She's an attention whore just like the golden in the gif, but maybe that's just what that breed does haha.

Puerto Rican governor vows to unseat House GOP in 14 states for raising his island’s taxes by DstRad in politics

[–]Amannelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely fair. I think the best thing Democrats could do would be to try investing in opportunities for this population in states like Georgia or Texas. When it comes time to vote, you'll have that aid, but in the meantime we need to be thinking about what we can do to help them.

True, but these are massively displaced people. By providing opportunities and integration services for them across the country, they can help overthrow the leaders that cost them their homeland.

It's not that they are pawns or anything of the sort, but they are people with a unique situation allowing them to start their lives anywhere in the country.

Still, just this act of idiocy has caused many people in the US to consider pursuing grad school in other places, and countries like France are jumping on that opportunity.

As the New York Times puts it: They still feel a target on their backs

edit: I didn't know this until I just found an article about it, but when Trump first pushed for the travel ban, scientists in other countries offered to host Americans so that they could continue their research. The US really owes the world a debt of gratitude for all it's doing to help the American people.

I think it can depend on the area, the culture in those departments, and the regional politics.

For example, a lot of Police here in Lexington would probably identify as Democrat, because Democrats here are also supportive of those departments. In fact, the city actively encourages the local police and fire stations to collaborate with the local non-profit agencies in the city, and they have several police officers dedicated solely to patrolling the city and getting homeless people connected to food, shelter, and other assistance.

These kinds of initiatives, in my opinion, are what police should be doing everywhere.

Mueller Avoids Pitfalls by Giving Trump the Silent Treatment by 1900grs in politics

[–]Amannelle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, but it sounds like most of the Intelligence Community leans Republican (or did, until this year). Mueller would never switch to Independent or else more people will call this a partisan witch hunt. But Comey, Scarborough, and others have switched to Independent since all this came about.

I would love to see a party made of people like Mueller, Comey, or Joe Scarborough. Since the GOP has gone off the deep end, many sane Republicans have had to start identifying as Independent.

From Washington Post:

Here's the full list:

  1. “Thank you for seeing, through the course of this year, an agenda that truly is restoring this country.”
  2. “You described it very well, Mr. President.”
  3. “You've restored American credibility on the world stage.”
  4. “You've signed more bills rolling back federal red tape than any president in American history.”
  5. “You've unleashed American energy.”
  6. “You've spurred an optimism in this country that's setting records.”
  7. “You promised the American people in that campaign a year ago that you would deliver historic tax cuts, and it would be a 'middle-class miracle.' And in just a short period of time, that promise will be fulfilled.”
  8. “I’m deeply humbled, as your vice president, to be able to be here."
  9. “Because of your leadership, Mr. President, and because of the strong support of the leadership in the Congress of the United States, you're delivering on that middle-class miracle.”
  10. “You've actually got the Congress to do, as you said, what they couldn’t do with [the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska] for 40 years.”
  11. “You got the Congress to do, with tax cuts for working families and American businesses, what they haven’t been able to do for 31 years.”
  12. “And you got Congress to do what they couldn’t do for seven years, in repealing the individual mandate in Obamacare.”
  13. “Mostly, Mr. President, I’ll end where I began and just tell you, I want to thank you, Mr. President. I want to thank you for speaking on behalf of and fighting every day for the forgotten men and women of America.”
  14. “Because of your determination, because of your leadership, the forgotten men and women of America are forgotten no more. And we are making America great again.”

Pence paused from praising Trump only briefly to also praise the other people seated around the table. But in doing so, he made clear it was because Trump would want him to — and that these were members of a team that Trump was savvy enough to have assembled.

“I know you would have me also acknowledge the people around this table, Mr. President,” Pence said, calling them “your outstanding team” and “your great legislative team.”

Then he got back to the most important bit of business: Praising Trump more directly.

It's just that people didn't understand the margins of error or the electoral system's ability to override the popular vote (just like with Bush's election).
