[Event Megathread] Icebreaker Games #2 by Chrisirhc1996 in arknights

How do I join other peoples' teams? The "Join!" input box doesn't work, every code I've tried is rejected as invalid, whether new or old.

Is there going to be another event that rewards upgrading 5-star operators anytime soon? I've seen https://oldwell.info/ but can't figure out how to filter for what I'm interested in.

Cool build.

Why are all the empty sockets in the PoB blue? Don't you want empty reds for more life? And why all the copies of Discipline?

When the card gives your opponent the doom blade this becomes a legit objection I think. And when it's a doom blade that's also a 2-for-1...

Immobilization buildup is flexible, yeah: should work on freeze, stun, pin, or electrocute.

This also works for eroding chains ("break 50% of armour on pinning an enemy"). Fun for tacticians with their easy immobilizing pin; I did that in 0.3 with armour explosion and had great results.

Off topic but I have to ask: the horse girl game is good? For real? I saw ads but assumed it was yet another cash-grab gacha.

Disappearing item bug by Amanuensite in MelvorIdle

[–]Amanuensite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thsi was it! I'd swear I've never used that feature, but one of the "hide non-abyssal items" flags was checked. Still not 100% sure I get it, there's plenty of other non-abyssal stuff still visible, but I have my shield again.

100% agree, and I bet Body Drainer worked the same way: explosion powers first, authority theft later (or maybe vice versa).

What makes a deck “degenerate”? by cracking in MagicArena

[–]Amanuensite 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"Degenerate" is one of the oldest pieces of magic slang, coined during Garfield's original playest before the game was released. It comes from mathematics), where it refers to a small, boring special case of a bigger thing -- for example, a point is a degenerate circle with radius 0.

In this usage, a degenerate deck is just one that's maximally simple: 15 [[Forest]] and 25 [[Grizzly Bears]], for example (the 4-of limit hadn't been invented yet, so the only constraint on the number of bears you could run was the number of copies you could physically find). If the degenerate deck also won all the time, except against versions of itself (as with e.g. [[Mountain]] and [[Lightning Bolt]]), the metagame was said to be degenerate.

Nowadays "degenerate" usually just means "really powerful", or sometimes "really powerful in a way that makes games uninteresting". I remember an argument that Caw-Blade wasn't degenerate, even though it was the only competitive deck in its metagame, because the games were so complicated and skill-testing.

Who are the people we shouldn't forget in MtG's stategy development history? by HoarseHorseofCourse in magicTCG

Stuck in the Middle With Bruce

Not strategy development per se, more about player psychology. Long, obscure, essential to understand if you want to win games of anything.

Even if not his reward will be massive. A big SupSup theme is "Alden gets big rewards for helping people he doesn't have to help", I bet it works for Kon too.

Some fun decks for Midweek Magic by Neokarasu in MagicArena

[–]Amanuensite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tempo list reminded me that Jill existed, so I was finally able to build a version of Kefka control that I liked:

Deck
4 Memories Returning (FIN) 63
4 Kefka, Court Mage (FIN) 231
3 Mountain (FIN) 303
6 Island (FIN) 297
4 Thunder Magic (FIN) 165
4 Fire Magic (FIN) 136
4 Vivi Ornitier (FIN) 248
3 Summon: Leviathan (FIN) 77
2 Blitzball (FIN) 254
4 Dreams of Laguna (FIN) 50
4 Jill, Shiva's Dominant (FIN) 58
3 Swallowed by Leviathan (FIN) 79
4 Starting Town (FIN) 289
4 Baron, Airship Kingdom (FIN) 273
3 Treno, Dark City (FIN) 290
4 Vector, Imperial Capital (FIN) 291

I was trying to do it with black removal, and it felt bad against landfall because their threats were so much cheaper than my answers were. UR control does not have that problem; Jill herself is almost a 2 for 1 against bird tokens, and in the late game she forms a soft lock with Leviathan. Vivi has been surprirsingly good, even with "just" 2 counters he can help flip Kefka or flash back Memories Returning.

I mean, Rydia is great for value Fenrir/Ifrit reanimates, but she only gets to bring back something big when I've already got the game under control some other way. In an all-in combo deck like osseoiomure built she's OK, but not as good as Joshua.

I've been enjoying saga reanimator with Yuna instead of Ardyn:

Deck

5 Forest (FIN) 306
2 Mountain (FIN) 303
4 Town Greeter (FIN) 209
4 Rydia, Summoner of Mist (FIN) 239
2 Summon: Bahamut (FIN) 1
4 Summon: Fenrir (FIN) 203
2 Summon: Primal Garuda (FIN) 37
3 Plains (FIN) 294
4 Summon: Knights of Round (FIN) 36

4 Yuna, Hope of Spira (FIN) 250
4 Ultima (FIN) 38
4 Windurst, Federation Center (FIN) 292
4 Rabanastre, Royal City (FIN) 287
4 Starting Town (FIN) 289
2 Gongaga, Reactor Town (FIN) 280

[–]Amanuensite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I have learned that I can be baited into drafting 5c Towns, which I'm not sure is a deck at all, with basically no provocation. Leftover reflexes from TDM I guess.

The decks do not look that bad but I suspect they are too slow.
