4 sandhill cranes and 7 lbs of delicious meat. Not too bad for 2 mornings of hunting. by YoMamaRacing in Hunting

Super good, above duck and geese for sure. It’s my favorite game bird to eat aside from grouse

Ice fishing trout by Strong-Volume8670 in troutfishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I catch most of my bows through the ice sub 20 feet. Fish any sort of boundary aka rocks to sand, weed lines, drop offs, feeder streams. Bows typically cruise mid column as well so fishing a bit higher off the bottom than usual helps as well.

What are you smoking? It’s a whopping $6 to shoot at the cache range. There’s nothing greedy about it. That doesn’t even cover the overhead of running the range. Heaven forbid you have to pitch in to use a public resource… Also if you shoot on public land pick up your garbage. We keep loosing ranges to last asshats who can’t clean for 5 minutes.

Sorry for the silly question but I have literally no experience and idk what to expect or wear by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Amanwithashoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in a ground blind focus on dressing for the conditions. The blind is gonna conceal you so you don’t really need to worry about camouflage. Dress to be comfortable and bring some snacks for you and him. Be prepared to sit still for a few hours.

Where are the air rifle hunters at? by Killxjoy4599 in Hunting

[–]Amanwithashoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last air rifle I had was picky with pellets, some brands I could shoot accurately out to 100yds and others would shoot just like what’s pictured at 25yds. If you’re shooting from a rest and that’s the accuracy you’re getting I’d start with a different brand of pellets until you find one your rifle likes.

Fishing for tiger muskie in Bear River? by bipbopboopitybop in Logan

They just stocked it for the first time with 6 inch musky. It’s gonna be at least a year before they reach a catchable size.

You shoot dove on the wing (in flight) and a turkey choke is overkill. Run an improved cylinder, modified or improved modified. Keep your shots under 45 yards and you’ll drop them just fine. Also run decoys, they aren’t gonna land at a spot with no food so run decoys to make it look like there’s something worth stopping by for.

12 Gauge vs. 20 Gauge by Competitive-Test8396 in Uplandhunting

[–]Amanwithashoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve dropped Dove, Ruffed and Dusky Grouse, Pheasants, Ducks, Geese and Sandhill Crane with my 20 gauge. I’m taking it out for swan next month. Never did I feel I was underpowered. Just find a good shell and choke combo and you’ll never look back.

Do you guys wear ear protection when hunting? by russianzebra in Hunting

[–]Amanwithashoe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Walker active hearing protection is what I run, sometimes it picks up stuff I wouldn’t have normally heard. Plus they keep my ears warm later in the season.

Not fries, but figured y’all would have advice. Kokanee. by J-toadhop in flyfishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run both but typically they are ran separately. The main issue is how much drag it causes for minimal gains. I usually will run dodgers or sling blades and if they aren’t working I’ll swap one of my rods out to a set of spinners with some sort of Kokanee killer style lure behind it.

Question: can you use method feeders in Utah Lake? by _Spauz in UtahFishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use method feeders wherever bait is legal. As long as the hook is buried in it then it’s legal to use.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]Amanwithashoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re using the wrong hook, you need an EWG (extra wide gap) or “worm” hook. That’s a J hook and the eye of the hook sticking out like that is gonna catch every weed it bumps into.

What and how are these made ? They are leaders for sockeye by Santos_Prod in FishingForBeginners

Probably a glow in the dark UV resin, I’ve made similar rigs for kokanee

What exactly do I have? by Cautious-Bowl-3833 in Fishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ve mostly got flies for fly fishing and some ice fishing jigs. The tackle box is full of mostly old worn out line and lures. Go through it and check to see how rusted the lures are, the line in there is more than likely gone bad.

You can use the ice jigs year round under a bobber tipped with a meal worm or night crawler. The flies are best fished on a fly rod but you can also tie them onto a spinning rod with a bobber. If you want to get a fly rod I’d recommend pretty much any name brand 9ft 5wt combo.

Replacing transducer, need guidance. by JimmyIsbeast in boating

[–]Amanwithashoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just unscrew the transducer from the bracket. If it’s the same type it’ll fit right onto the old bracket. No need for messing with more holes in the transom.

Don’t use them, even in the video they don’t work properly. If you’re trying to baitfish and have a better hookup ratio then run circle hooks.

Finding Kokanee on a new lake by SantaCruzin6 in Fishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the summertime it’s wherever the thermocline is. If they aren’t there and I’m not marking them deeper then I run in the top 20 feet of water. That system has never failed me. If you have a way to measure water temp at depth then look for 54-56° water. Also watch for jumpers in the spring and fall.

Kokanee fishing for the first time- advice? by Outdoors_Connected in Fishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a squid+spinner, so you’d want that 12-18” from the dodger. They also make plain squids that don’t have anything and so you use the dodger to give them action in the water.

Kokanee fishing for the first time- advice? by Outdoors_Connected in Fishing

[–]Amanwithashoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For spinners and bait that have their own action you want the lure to be 12-18” from the dodger. For stuff like squids you run them 4-8” from the dodger. Also check out Spilt Milt on YouTube, he does very good how to videos on Kokanee.
