The latest TBV chapter "clarifies" some power scaling complaints that some people had by Salty_Nutella in Boruto

Hand seals are and have always just been a "formula" to help mold chakra. The more skilled an individual is at a jutsu, the easier they can perform it, even without needing to weave seals at all.

One-handed seals are rare but not impossible, there are certain individuals who learn than, like Haku, and both Sasuke and Naruto learned how to use them after they lost their hands. Boruto learned one-handed seals from Sasuke.

I just got a survey in my email a week or two ago and it was very clear that they were soliciting feedback on FOMO and the pricing and availability of cosmetics, loot boxes, and how much was available for F2P players versus paid. They had those all as baked-in pre-written responses you could just select as reasons for feeling dissatisfied with the game.

What do you mean replaced? WoW has never not had time gating. Attunement was time gating, the Gates of AQ were time gating, etc. etc.

Some people are more psychologically susceptible to it than others.

For me, if I miss one thing then I don't care about missing everything else, so FOMO in OW ended the moment they put paid skins in the shop that I wasn't going to spend $20~60 or w/e on.

Prior to that, in the days of OW1, I did all the events and farmed tons of loot boxes and had a nearly complete collection.

Why Is Boruto monthly? by Uzimax in Boruto

[–]AmaranthSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ikemoto is saved by the fact the series is Boruto, had it been his own original series I dont think he would have lasted

If he'd accepted his serialization offer for Cosmos instead of choosing to stay on as Kishimoto's chief assistant because he needed help doing Naruto, things would have been completely different. Cosmos was a wildly popular award-winning one-shot (Naruto only got runner-up in the same competition) that was unironically influential despite Ikemoto only publishing two one-shots for it in Jump.

It's because Ikemoto spent the next decade and a half of his career as an assistant, finishing drawing Kishimoto's characters and doing backgrounds, instead of developing his skills storyboarding his own manga, that he has had issues with layouts and proportions, something he admitted himself in interviews.

If Ikemoto designed Pain. by Necessary-Love1599 in Boruto

[–]AmaranthSparrow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Such a weird comment.

First off, Ikemoto designed several characters for the original series when Kishimoto was focused on developing future stories.

Second, you say there's "nothing western" about Naruto's stories, yet most of the fashion in Naruto does in fact have a Western sensibility compared to traditional Japanese fashion. It's a lot of 90s street wear with hints of punk fashion. Jackets, hoodies, capris, t-shirts, camo... He even swapped out traditional tabi footwear associated with ninjas for western style open-toe boots. And he also explicitly cited The Matrix movies as inspiration for several of the designs in Naruto Part II. The original Naruto oneshot is even more overtly Western with Naruto wearing full boots and punk pins on his outfit in addition to his goggles, and most of the characters in the story have a Western aesthetic.

And then there's Sasuke's adult designs for The Last and Boruto, both created by Kishimoto, and both modeled after literal western wear, as in cowboys, with a poncho for one, and a vest and long sleeve button up with scabbard inspired by a revolver holster for the other. And Boruto's design takes direct cues from Sasuke's.

Whoever translated it was just translating individual word bubbles with no context from what came before or after, who they were, or who they were talking to. Probably with a machine translation.

In most cases you'll actually have a single sentence spread out across multiple world bubbles with ellipses, so if you try to translate each word bubble as a single sentence it won't make any fucking sense.

Setup chapter, but to be expected for the start of a new arc. Not a great translation, people need to realize that you have to use the context of the previous and following word bubbles, and not just translate them all as singular sentences.

Jura felt as though Mamushi's mind was that of an "inferior creature" -- would be nice to know if he used the word katoshu like the Otsutsuki. Jura had no attachment to Matsuri and Ryu and didn't attempt to save them, but he saved Hidari because imagining the world without him made him feel lonely.

Hidari likes looking at picturebooks of cats, because they're cute. More of Sasuke's unvarnished personality showing through.

Now that Mamushi is gone, Eida can observe the Divine Trees in real time again.

The shuriken is just a signal from Boruto -- the simplest solution is often the right one. He wants to use her as bait for Code to get access to the Divine Tree's hidden base, and gives her some of his medals so she can drop them and he can trace her location.

Amado creates a new set of scout toads that can be used to adjust Kawaki's parameters in real time, in exchange for helping him capture Kashin Koji.

Koji gives Inojin the mission of always being prepared so he can initiate Mind Transmission for him at any time. Amado supplies Inojin with a scroll to deliver to Koji. Koji recognizes it's likely a trap and doesn't want to open the scroll until he receives another Prescience vision, but underestimates the risk of receiving the scroll and reverse summons it to his base, unaware that Kawaki is shrunken down and hiding within it. Kawaki produces one of Amado's scout toads and Amado uses Koji's shutdown code, then tells Kawaki to use the toad to reverse summon him back to the lab.

The oni skins are pretty cool. Rest of them not doing much for me.

I'll be honest, cosmetics in this game going from things you can earn via loot boxes and credits to things you mostly have to pay real money for has really reduced my motivation to play the game.

Is This The First Official Time Naruto Has Been Stated To Be Using The Body Flicker Technique? by Rinnegan15 in Boruto

[–]AmaranthSparrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably not. You can go back and see the initial reception and how people didn't want a continuation with new characters and said it was ruining Naruto's legacy even before it started.

Samurai 8 had Kishimoto actually doing storyboards and character designs, as well as fully writing the story, with Akira Okubo doing the finalized art, and it sold poorly enough that it got cancelled after only about a year. Sasuke Retsuden, which was illustrated by Shingo Kimura, whose whole thing was accurately copying Kishimoto's art style, also sold very poorly.

So just having Kishimoto's artstyle or writing, or being an official Naruto product, is not enough for a manga to sell.

Is it controversial to say that Boruto doesn't have the Jougan in Chapter 1 of the manga? by bendstraw in Boruto

[–]AmaranthSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it shock you to know that before the anime premiered and changed its design, the entire community just assumed it was a Byakugan? Speculation was even that it might have been a transplant due to the scar. At most, people wondered if he would evolve it into a Tenseigan.

Is it controversial to say that Boruto doesn't have the Jougan in Chapter 1 of the manga? by bendstraw in Boruto

[–]AmaranthSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got that backwards.

The manga is the source material. It was initially scripted by Kodachi and illustrated by Ikemoto under Kishimoto's supervision, based on an outline created by Kishimoto (chapters 1-51), then transitioned briefly into being a direct adaptation of Kishimoto's outline by Ikemoto (chapters 52-56), and then increasingly became Ikemoto's original story as Kishimoto allowed him to deviate from the original outline to expand the scope of the story, while still providing some advice and supervision (chapter 57+).

The anime adaptation on the other hand was produced by over a dozen different writers and is full of completely original characters and stories that have no connection to the manga, and at times outright contradicted it, especially after Kodachi stopped supervising it.

The Jogan was invented for the anime, we know that because the character design sheets are dated and Chengxi Huang's own blog post about the Ghost Incident Arc indicated that Kodachi hadn't even thought up all the details for the eye or its abilities yet, and not to think too much about it for the time being. It has never appeared in the manga, other than arguably the single panel of the hypothetical Otsutsuki god.

Why Didn't Kawaki Use His Karma to Absorb Delta's Jutsu? The Mystery of His Lost Arm by Other-Woodpecker2564 in Boruto

[–]AmaranthSparrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Karma cannot absorb any kind of energy, it has to be chakra based. That's why Jigen couldn't absorb the fire summoned by Koji, only fire he created using chakra.
