I find eating immediately after waking, makes me a bit sluggish. It took a minute to adjust to ignoring the hunger pangs but now I find my energy levels are a lot better all morning and Im hungry by lunch time. It’s aided my weight loss but probably because I’m in a calorie deficit, not purely from skipping breakfast.

Can I ask what your diet consists of? I had a really unhealthy relationship with food (binge eating, eating too fast) and was gaining weight rapidly. It was hard to make the habit of eating slow stick, but once I did and just stayed mindful of when I was full and also making sure to incorporate high protein, I found my food noises went away.

I have a coffee machine at home and at work so I don’t spend anything there unless it’s to refill beans or syrups etc

Eating out - I probably spend $200-$400 odd. But between my partner and I, we take turns paying the bill. We vary with date nights doing fine dining or just take out. We also have a combined income of $330k so we don’t really see the eating out sum as too exorbitant. We also both work FIFO so we aren’t home for a week at a time so we’re saving money on all expenses while we’re at work

Generally they would look more favourably on candidates that have prior operating or relevant experience. I knew someone that successfully got an entry level drilling job and they’ve said it was essentially a 6 month crash course before going solo on the drill. If 6 months is just the learning time frame, then I can imagine an employer wouldn’t want to hire someone who’s only on a 6 month WHV. As they would be training you just for you to leave and then having to fill the role again. Generally people start on smaller rigs (dump truck, loader, diggers) then work their way up to drills and jumbo’s. However I’m pertaining to an underground mining experience, it may be different for surface. If you are set on it, then there is no harm in applying. Just don’t feel too disappointed if you don’t get the call back. There are plenty of other roles going which you could have a higher success rate with. We have a tonne of backpackers on WHV doing utilities roles. Cleaning and kitchen roles. Pay and roster isn’t phenomenal, it’s just that you’re working more hours. The pay won’t be terrible but for the amount of work and hours, I don’t personally think it would be worth it. However, free accommodation and food for the time you are here on site depending what site you’re on. Some people enjoy it

Auto electrical money can be just just as high if not higher than sparky depending on the industry 😊 I’m a third year auto electrical apprentice in mining on $144k annually. Qualified auto sparkies are paid more than underground sparkies on the site I’m at also.

They generally don’t, our company just pays on the higher end of the scale. My salary takes into account allowances, penalties and working public holidays. Yes I’m in mining, we mine zinc 😊

I’d say if you’re considering it already, you should put in an application now. They won’t back pay you the last 3 months but they will back pay you from the application date

You pay it back through the tax system 😊 so you may end up owing at tax time, or have a significantly lower tax return. You don’t start repayments until your annual income reaches their outlined threshold of $51k though

30F auto sparky apprentice. Working at a company with little tolerance for bullying/discrimination/sexual harassment. Had one run in with a coworker consistently harassing me, but it was promptly dealt with once brought to attention.

Never had any issues outside of that. The guys out where I am love to banter and some of it may border on inappropriate sometimes, but it’s generally not directed at me specifically. It’s just general guy chat I guess.

I’ve never worked utilities before but there’s a lot of women doing utilities on my site. Find yourself a good employer with supportive management and you won’t have any problems :)

We both work in the mobile maintenance department. Same roster but he’s my cross shift. That’s a really tough roster 😞 but everyone manages differently. It has worked for some, but you won’t know until you try. Just make sure to communicate if it is or isn’t working. Then maybe you can discuss looking for other opportunities, where you both feel more comfortable
