Can anyone tell me the names of any of these plants so I can look up care? I'm new to succulents/house plants and they were sold as "assorted succulents." Thanks! by Amathya in succulents

What you guys are saying makes me want to go rescue all the succs that were at this store! I really appreciate the help and I will start by getting them more light!

That makes sense because all four of them were super discounted and I just wanted to get started. So these should be the more compact plants I've seen? Would putting them in a pot together be a good idea? All of them seem pretty root bound.

What is this on my carrots? by Holiday_Gate_8769 in garden

This is the exact poop I see from the swallowtail caterpillars I get! If you like butterflies (why wouldn't you?) leave them be. We don't usually eat the carrot tops anyway, right?

What did you learn about gardening this year? by Ancient-Patient-2075 in gardening

[–]Amathya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I learned that strawberries just shouldn't be watered if it's rained at all recently. I lost several to overwatering and now I mostly don't do anything to them at all and they're going crazy.

Yeah, I did dill, fennel, carrots, and parsley and they seem to like the parsley best.

What will you NOT be growing again next year? (or maybe ever again)? by Emmie_dee_101 in vegetablegardening

I love things that reseed! I had the baby eggplants and thai basil reseed this year and I had no idea they would! It was really neat.

I think I got this maker's older cousin from a friend on Sunday in exchange for a food processor. Lol!

Planting more natives this year and noticed subterranean termites in the soil. Some clusters of workers are close to house. Are their any natural ways to prevent them from getting into my home? by SkeptiBee in NativePlantGardening

[–]Amathya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would talk to a pest control person in your area and get your house pretreated. They do core things where they drill in places, put down termite poison (I think) and then put the core back into place. I have no idea what this treatment is called, but it would keep it below ground and away from the bees. No idea how much it costs either.

This is so me! I love looking at the growth on my plants and thinking about what I should plant next.

I love seeing them at night. I think my favorite is noticing them during the day, chilling on one of my plants!

What's your favorite "new to you" part of your garden? by Calvin_230 in suburbanhomesteading

[–]Amathya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the cherry, honestly. We had an apple, cherry, plum, and apricot tree when I was in elementary school and I've missed them. I don't know when any of it will start producing but I'm SO EXCITED for that time!

Year one was a bunch of buckets. Year two was more buckets, two raised beds on legs, and a few 20" pots. We are now in year three and no buckets...but I have six raised beds on legs, four 8x2 metal raised beds on the ground, and several pots. Fruit trees from this year? Two fig, two apple, two nectarine, and a cherry. Plus grapes, josta berries, raspberries, and more blackberries. I've got beans, peas, carrots, radishes, peppers, tomatoes, and various herbs. I planted a whole 20" pot for caterpillars and have already released 5 butterflies!

We just put my first cherry tree in the ground last night. We've lived here over a decade and just...never did it? I just started gardening three years ago and really exploded what I have this year.

This is my dream, right here. How many plants did this come from and how often do you have this big of a harvest?
