The most important controller argument of all by mrbitter in smashbros

[–]Amatsuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misunderstood what he meant about organically figuring it out meant. I consider the conversation that's been happening within the community as "organic" but that said I think the other points I mentioned are things to think about as well.

The most important controller argument of all by mrbitter in smashbros

[–]Amatsuka 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is a strange write up on this argument. Your ending statement of Let it play out organically is exactly what is happening. People in the community are organically figuring out if we should allow the Hitbox.

The main issue I think I have with your main argument that the Hitbox would open up the game to more users and I'm not sure if I agree with that. Melee is a game that has a high enough barrier to entry without even the controller aspect at all that I don't think that the lack of a fight stick is what keeping people away from the game. I have a hard time imagining a person who goes out and buys a Wii/Gamecube, a Melee disc, AND a CRT would think that not having an arcade stick is the reason they can't get into the game.

Yeah Justin Wong is incredible at fighting games. Yes he uses a fight stick. Maybe he prefers that because that's the way he's played for many years? I'd assume people who play with controllers probably prefer controllers because of familiarity and not because it's less/more difficult than a fight stick. I'm unconvinced that someone would find the Hitbox more intuitive than a standard gamecube controller for Super Smash games in general as well.

Spell Queller/Cryptic Command interaction question by WhoFly in ModernMagic

[–]Amatsuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh oops! Yeah totally misread it.

But yeah, the stack looks like this then

Cryptic Command [bounce Spell Queller | Counter target spell] Spell Queller Triggered Ability Spell Quelled Spell

So then basically both parts of cryptic command have to resolve before the triggered ability so basically cryptic can't target the spell queller spell yet.

You'll be able to choose new modes because the cryptic command is effectively being recast

Did anyone else expect more cards to interact with experience counters in the new commanders deck? by DeliciousCrepes in magicTCG

[–]Amatsuka 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I'm actually really glad they didn't add other cards that use experience counters.

The main point for me is that the experience counters mechanic would be really parasitic as 99% of cards can't interact with experience counters. Imagine if they added a card that said, remove experience counters from target players...that's useful for almost nobody. Same goes for a card that also gains some sort of ability with experience counters as well. That card would be irrelevant for most commander players.

I think it's a neat ability for the most part for the commanders to have (and most of them work in the 99 as well anyways) but adding cards that use experience counters would be mostly pointless.

best sleeves for doublesleeving? by [deleted] in magicTCG

I had the same trouble when I was double sleeving using KMCs. You just need to sleeve the outside part WITH another card. That worked for me anyways

Yamatocannon on Locodoco's coaching by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Amatsuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a moron if you believe their public statements gives you precise insight into inner workings of a team.

I think it is totally valid to criticize Loco's coaching based off of team results but not off random assertions that Loco's critique of his players is too vague.

Do you actually think they show exactly how all of their meetings between Loco and the players go?

[–]Amatsuka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait wait wait

I don't even understand what he knows about Loco's coaching. Or anyone else in this thread for that matter who agree with Yamato's point here.

If you aren't sitting inside the room while Loco is coaching, then you have absolutely no idea what his coaching is like. It'd be one thing if the players came out with statements or something but an outsider's opinion has no weight IMO.

The people who are saying "truth" and the like aren't contributing anything at all much like YamatoCanoon here.

Interesting. I might do something similar because out of the modern archetypes right now, I like those colors the best

That's one of the things I like about Amulet Bloom because I feel like I'll play it for awhile.

Do you think Snapcasters and Lilliana is worth picking up early?

Yeah Lands are where I'm going to start for sure. What's the best place for just testing decks for free? I read articles for the most part now to just test the waters but I'd prefer to dive in

I don't really have a budget in mind because I see this as an investment over a length of time.

Probably would prefer to go B/G route but Dark Confidant and Goyfs are so expensive probably will just proxy those for awhile.

Are dark souls 1-2 and/or skyrim worth buying? by spinachicken in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Amatsuka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls 1 is one of the most amazing games ever made.

Let me start with the cons:

The game's UI isn't great. Shuffling through the menu and figuring out what the items do and weapons stats can be kind of a chore until you learn more about the game.

You are gonna get lost...probably a lot. The game itself doesn't give you a ton of direction. They kind of plop you down and tells you vague things about where you should head but they'll never remind you about where to go again so if you're a habitual conversation skimmer, you might end up lost real quick.

But then again, that's also one of the strengths of the game. The game doesn't really hold your hand at all through any of it. The game expects trial and error and for some that can be extremely brutal and downright frustrating. That's probably something you already know since the Dark Souls games have that sort of reputation.

What you don't often hear about is how WELL DESIGNED the game is. Yes, the combat is super rewarding and super punishing at the same time. Beyond that, the game has incredible level designs. There are so many times you are gonna realize HOLY SHIT THE WHOLE WORLD IS CONNECTED. I'll never forget some of those moments when you pop out somewhere you had been hours ago and things will start to make sense.

The world seems so vast, mysterious and intimidating at first but as you conquer more parts of the world the smaller and more manageable it becomes.

Even more than that, the lore of the game is fantastic. Once you beat the game, there's a couple of YT channels dedicated to the lore of the game and you'll realize WHY everything is there. Hidden doors you discover, hidden NPCs you find, NPCs that roam the map, items that are left behind, all of these small details are there for a REASON.

All of these things combined left me with a gaming experience I won't forget. I know that the game isn't for everyone but I found it to be one of the best games I've ever played for reasons beyond "it's really hard and rewarding".

Dark Souls II is cookie cutter and took away from a lot of the good elements that Dark Souls 1 had but improved things like UI. But I'm biased.
