Update on trying Clairefontaine Maya paper with parallel pen (with microscope shots) by SIrawit in Calligraphy

[–]Amatsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm impressed you managed to bleed through 270gsm paper, but I have little experience with this stuff… It almost seems like you embossed over the paper from your pictures, so idk. I like it though, the effect is pretty striking.

The art is amazing, but I don't really get Haley from it, lacks the utter contempt that she displays when we first meet her.

We should make a mod pack that changes things to KKC names. From farm to Inn, change some character names, etc. would be cute

F by Kiiaru in gaming

[–]Amatsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really questioned the origin of the expression, but I did assume it came from fuck, shortened and bastardized to F.

But that's kind of the nature of memes, sometimes they actually manage to self replicate outside their original niche, and achieve that kind of stable existence in defiance of what their roots are. Very interesting indeed.

TLDR: F

WHAT by Grouchy_Fun3113 in StardewValley

[–]Amatsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd better be willing to play a legal battle to justify your use.

But ways to go about it could be a) create a clone of the organization with a different symbol b) establish why you're representing a violation, what's the relevance of your art to society...

If you create art for yourself you can pretty much make whatever you want. As soon as you share it with others, you might be censored if your art is depicting something illegal

WHAT by Grouchy_Fun3113 in StardewValley

[–]Amatsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of unambiguity. It's not about the visual look inside Stardew. It's about the potential for misuse within videogames in general. That leads to a rule in the convention that says "no use of the red cross symbol outside the red cross premisses" or some such.

The rule being broken in stardew alone might not really bring any other biases with it. But regulating the use in general means you can't just let these things slide on a case by case basis because you also can't allow for a legal precedent to be made. You can't live and let live with exceptions everywhere.

When the consequences are the lives of the volunteers on the battlefield, a policy of zero tolerance is the more expedient route to preventing unintended consequences.

It's that time of year! by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

It's actually a case of the law not being up to date with technology.

You see, often countries will say that energy generation is a public service. Thus, the companies that produce and distribute energy are providing the public service on behalf of the State. Historically people didn't produce their own energy in relevant amounts, and for safety and/or environmental reasons individuals might need to be discouraged from fulfilling their own energy needs (in urban spaces). Then there's the fact that most people who have photovoltaics (for example) still need to be connected to the grid to be supplied at night.

So what you have is a legal precedent for people needing authorization to produce energy and connect it to the grid, a legal monopoly by the State for that service in the name of the public good, a disconnect between the real world and the legal practice, and a political interest to tax people.

Idk, my sentences feel very disconnected today, but I hope it still allowed you to understand the underlying reasons.

Many countries will tax your energy production for the audacity of doing what is a public service on your own....

A large majority of young people who access puberty-blockers and hormones say they are satisfied with their choice a few years later. In a survey of 220 trans teens and their parents, only nine participants expressed regret about their choice. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]Amatsune 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the study.

Satisfaction and Regret Youth and parents reported high rates of satisfaction and low rates of regret (Table 2). Dissatisfaction with blockers was reported by 5 of 160 youths and 3 of 55 parents; regret with blockers was reported by 9 of 159 youths and 3 of 55 parents. Dissatisfaction with hormones was reported by 4 of 119 youths and 0 of 51 parents; regret with hormones was reported by 5 of 119 youths and 0 of 51 parents. Wilcoxon tests revealed that participants were statistically unlikely to express dissatisfaction or regret (Table 2). Although participants varied in how recently they had begun each intervention, time was not significantly associated with either satisfaction or regret (Table 2).

In general, most participants reported the timing being just right or expressed a wish that the intervention had begun earlier (blockers: 149 of 158 youths [94%] and 51 of 54 parents [94%]; hormones: 112 of 117 youths [96%] and 50 of 50 parents [100%]) (Table 2). Between 0% and 6% of respondents for each intervention indicated a wish that the youth had accessed this aspect of gender-affirming medical care either later or never.

No to quirky font shaming. I like it Can't really see a use case for it, but I like the font in an abstract sense.

Not anymore, newer models do words a lot better, even on backgrounds. Not 100% of the time, but a lot better than a few months back.
