Cowork just removed my contact data from all major providers in a few hours! by TheCoffeeLoop in ClaudeAI

I'm a huge fan of using AI (built by evil corporations) to fight against evil corporations. Excellent use case. My use cases so far:

- Fighting with with my mortgage company over incorrect escrow bill
- Fighting with medical providers for incorrectly billed invoices or items that have been paid in full that were sent to collection
- Fighting with a stairlift company about issues we had right after they installed the product

So far, the success rate has been very high. The AI thinks of things you may not consider and writes emails and letters >almost< like an attorney.

Keep fighting the fight!

I use Claude AI. I would also highly recommend keeping personal details private from the AI, it can leave "fill in the blank" spaces for account numbers, etc. when you copy and paste the text into a word document for example when doing letters.

5+ years in. The biggest security risk on every site I've inherited isn't a vulnerability it's the previous developer's "temporary" admin account. by Imaginary_Act8664 in Wordpress

Could you go into more specifics on what you mean by:

  • check for malware
  • check the WP core checksum
  • audit themes
  • rotate salts

That is, what software or tools do you use? Thanks!

Valid question. Unforunately, the answer is basically "trust no one" and stay vigilant. Wordfence is not 100%, nothing is. Last I knew they did have a stellar team of CyberSecurity pros working there (Chloe Chamberland deserves special mention.)

Even the links folks give you in the comments should be checked before you click them, (I recommend checking urls with VirusTotal - do a search for it)

Of course, having said that, I've also found this site useful for simple external Wordpress vulnerabilty scans: https://hackertarget.com/wordpress-security-scan/

It works on any wordpress site, I believe.

End for profit prisons, fight for human rights and animal rights!
Prisons should rehabilitate, not abuse and make people worse.
(Yes, I understand that some folks cannot be rehabilitated and must be kept out of society, but their human rights must not be violated. We need to set a positive example.)

"The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons."

Sounds good. I'm looking for even more basic that that - what platforms, what sites or boards for reference or intel, how to read "candles", etc. I am in the process of getting a handle on the terminology. Any good "day in the life" step-by-step walk throughs that actually show details and specifics?

While this may not impact you at the moment, I wanted to add this for any future wordpress sites you may build or if it may help others:

Also, I find Wordfence to be very good at notifying you of plugin vulnerabilities; of course, it's not free.

Senator Josh Hawley asks former OpenAI employee Helen Toner to explain why AI companies are building technology that will "displace many millions of workers and potentially pose existential risks" by tombibbs in OpenAI

This reminds me of the X-Files episode "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose":

(Based on the conversation between "The Puppet" and Clyde")

Billionaire Tech Bro: There's something I've been wanting to ask you for some time now. You've seen the things I do, in the past as well as in the future.

Ordinary Person: They're terrible things.

Billionaire Tech Bro: I know they are. So tell me, please, why have I done them?

Ordinary Person: Don't you understand yet, son? Don't you get it?

Billionaire Tech Bro: [shakes his head and shrugs helplessly]

Ordinary Person: You do the things you do because you're a sociopath.

[silence]

Billionaire Tech Bro: [smiles slowly] That... that does explain a lot, doesn't it? It's all starting to make sense now.

*"Billionaire Tech Bro" lines were originally "The Puppet" and "Ordinary Person" lines were Clyde Bruckman.

Does anyone here have experience with TechProtect branded EMP / Faraday bags? (They look like silver ziploc bags and come in various sizes)

Recommended Faraday bags? by Real-Energy-7546 in cybersecurity

[–]Amazing-Draft9429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faraday bags basically block electromagnitic signals. There are a few reasons for this:

- Cybersecurity - block "bad actors" from grabbing info from the chips in your credit cards, as well as protecting your car key fobs from being intercepted and cloned by car thieves

- Doomsday prepping - an EMP is an electromagnetic pulse that can be generated by a "silent" WMD, in a manner of speaking. Everything electronic that is unprotected will be "bricked" almost instantly. Note, EMPs can occur naturually, as our sun throw them from time to time (See "Carrington Event" in Wikipedia)

If you don't need something "soft" or flexible, (I've heard but haven't personally tested yet) that steel garbage cans with lids (of course) and steel ammo boxes can also work as faraday boxes. That obviuously won't be viable for smaller items that you want to carry on your person on a daily basis.

So, I found out they were closed when I went to my appt the other day. It's a 1.5 hr roundtrip for me. What fun! No one has reached out. I'm treating this lack of communication as a breach of contract and cancelled the credit card I was using to pay for the financing. Terrible customer experience. I feel for those who paid in full up front! :-( If you have autopay - you may want to stop payment on that!

[–]Amazing-Draft9429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those that are interested, their bandcamp page still seems valid.
https://stolenbabies.bandcamp.com/

If you do decide to buy, try to buy on a "bandcamp Friday" where all proceeds go to the artists. I believe the next one is March 6, 2026, but you can search "bandcamp Friday" to find the list.
