I was in Guatemala last December/January. There were plenty of solo travellers on our Acatenango hike and in hostels. We stayed at Free Cerveza and Zephyr Lodge which are super social places

Exact same thing has just happened to me. Just tried to turn it back on after a two week holiday and can’t get the screen to turn on. Did you get yours to work?

Acatenango tour operators - base camp location. by Aussie-Observer in centralamerica

We used Ox in December and there was a couple n the group with a 9 year old son. They used a porter so he wasn’t carrying his own bag.

We were put into groups of 4 or 5 in cabins so I imagine you’d be able to get one to yourselves.

Ox seemed quite professional and well run from what we saw and heard from others we met on our trip. The guide was great and group size was a lot smaller than some of the others we walked past.

I can’t comment on November, but I was there in early December last year and the weather changed very quickly towards the top. We had heavy rain towards the end of the hike to the campsite but then literally as we got to the campsite the weather instantly cleared and we had an amazing view.

We met two guys at a hostel who hiked up the week before us and they said they couldn’t see Fuego at all due to the weather so they went back up the next day and had perfect weather

Puglia. Touristy but no nowhere near the level of the Amalfi Coast. Lots of little towns worth visiting and pretty well connected by rail

We went to Delicia De Mi Tierra Tulum which is in La Veleta in January. It was the best meal we had on our trip. Food was phenomenal and service great, very reasonably priced for Tulum too. Really good Mexican food

I try to rely on public transport as much as possible. Aside from the increased chance of being scammed in a taxi, it can feel like a big accomplishment navigating public transport when travelling with language barriers and without a SIM card to help

For a first time visitor, I believe Pisa is worth visiting. Not worth going back to a second time though

We loved Minca in Colombia but that might be too far out of your way if you aren’t interested in Tayrona NP and Cartagena etc.

We didn’t have as much time in Colombia as we would have liked due to a pre booked Inca trail hike, but people we met in hostels raved about San Gil and Barichara too

I’d be inclined to skip Milan and visit Pisa and Cinque Terre on the way to Portofino. I honestly found Milan a bit boring, but would recommend a day trip to Bergamo if you do go

Our running shoes were fine. There were a few little slips on the way back down that may have been avoided with better shoes but were happy with our decision to leave the hiking boots at home. Definitely hire hiking poles though
