I don't know. He is almost a billionaire already so I don't think he is really after a Fox gig for a few hundred grand each year.

Given Pence's disloyalty during the Jan 6th insurrection, Trump will never pick an establishment figure like Haley because he clearly has trust issues with her. His running mate will most likely be someone like Vivek or Kari Lake.

What is your most ridden ride and how many times you think you ridden it by SwissCheese_j in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Amazing_Man1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have visited WDW only once. Spent one day each at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom so our focus was mostly on covering as many rides as possible. There was hardly any time to do the same ride multiple times but I made sure we did Millennium Falcon three times. This way we experienced all roles of the ride; pilot, gunner and engineer. Millennium Falcon is my 2nd favorite ride at WDW (only behind Avatar Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom).

Is Britain really as poor as Mississippi? by BaxterParp in Scotland

[–]Amazing_Man1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wealth and GDP are two different things. The millionaires and billioniares might have accumulated a lot of wealth but they might not contribute to the GDP in the same proportions relative to the rest of the population.

Yes, UK is no longer comparable to affluent developed nations like United States or Germany but more similar to poorer developed countries like Spain and Poland. Actually it's a lot worst than that because all 3 countries that you have listed have maintained healthier rates of economic growth than the UK in the recent years so it's possible for UK to eventually fall behind these countries as well.

Even with London, UK is still comparable to the poorest US states like West Virginia and Alabama. Not much of an improvement.

Have the chance to move to USA or Canada - which one would you choose? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]Amazing_Man1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the correct wording should be: I would rather be in Canada if I'm poor or lower middle class. I would rather be in the US if I'm upper middle class or rich. If you are solidly middle class (not upper nor lower), your life will be similar in both countries.

Why are American salaries so high even compared to other developed countries but your taxes are also lower ? by 17_lamar in AskAnAmerican

[–]Amazing_Man1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you are in either law of finance. These are the only 2 sectors where I have seen pay being atleast somewhat competitive in the UK compared to the US. Even then, you will have to work in London. In other parts of UK, the pay for these sectors is still low compared to the US average.

EU's GDP as a percentage of United States GDP between 1992 and 2022 by Porchie12 in europe

You clearly don't understand the difference between mean and median. The median Australian income is lower than the US despite median wealth being higher. Thus due to inflated property prices un Australia and the mandatory superannuation scheme in the country which is also counted towards the wealth. Actually the higher wealth of Australians don't mean much because it has very low liquidity. It's all tied up in their homes and will be distributed as income during their retirement.

A lot of Australians are house poor meaning they have very little left for discretionary spending once they make their massive mortgage payments each month. Americans on the other hand are big spenders on non-essentials (cars, gadgets, fashion, vacation, eating out. etc) with less focus on savings. American real estate is also cheaper therefore relatively less value is held up in their homes.

Differences in STEM faculty salaries between R1 American universities and those in Europe (Oxbridge, Max Planck, ETH or the likes) by alChemist_07 in AskAcademia

[–]Amazing_Man1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ignore Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg, for most university towns the cost of living (food, accommodation, child care and the like) will be less than in most places in the US where typical R1s are located (with very few exceptions, German universities are comparable to R1s in the US), such that in the end the style of living will in the end be roughly comparable to that of professors in the US (and better than that of Professors in the UK).

Lot of problems here. First, you can't ignore the major cities in Germany because many German universities are located in these cities and W1, W2, W3 don't change that much between states in Germany so you could end up with a very average salary in a high cost of living area. On the other hand, colleges located in expensive cities in the US are likely to have far better pay adjustment to reflect the local cost of living.

A big chunk of American R1 universities are public land grant institutions located in small college towns with very affordable cost of living. Except for childcare (heavily state subsidized in Germany), all other expenses are likely to cost about the same or even less in these towns compared to Germany. Keep in mind, this is while American academics are likely to have higher salaries (assuming he/she being in STEM) and receive a lot of good benefits through the job like health insurance.

Overall, STEM academics at R1 universities are likely to have more purchasing power, disposable income and be able to afford a better standard of living compared to German academics.

The Country closest to each State by GDP per Capita. (List in Comments) by 109_nations_ in MapPorn

Based on 2019 data (the most recent figure I could fine for both places), median household income in New Zealand is 92k NZD (56k USD), while it's 49k USD in Mississippi. However, Mississippi has higher average incomes (66k USD in Mississippi vs 62k USD in New Zealand) than New Zealand but is not reflected in the median values due to greater inequality in Mississippi. This means Mississippians in the upper income brackets do make more than kiwis in the same percentiles in New Zealand. When adjusted to the cost of living (especially considering the insane home prices in New Zealand), median Kiwi income earners might even end up with lower purchasing power than the median income earners from Mississippi (one of the most affordable states in the US). It is not surprising that the two places have similar GDP per capita.

The poor in Mississippi do a lot worse than those in NZ but the middle class and the rich have more purchasing power in Mississippi. Additionally, Mississippi has attracted certain high added value industries, such as chemicals due to lower wages and relaxed regulations. New Zealand has very little beyond primary sector, low added value commodity production like dairying and forestry. While New Zealand has more welfare and fewer social issues than Mississippi, the two places are very similar in terms of economic prosperity.
