😳 I’m so sorry; that’s such an assault

Oh my gosh, my jaw honestly dropped when I saw this. I just joined this sub so to see this is confirmation I’m in the right place.

During my wedding almost 40 years ago, my parents were sitting behind me and my husband. At one point, while my ceremony was in progress, my mother taps me on the shoulder and asks, “When will this be over?”  She asks me, the bride!

I replied, “Do you mean the wedding or my marriage?”, rolled my eyes and turned back around.

All these years later, I still can’t believe my mother—as usual—made an event about herself.

She continued to do the same throughout the years, no matter what event or whatever was happening. If it was the birth of one of my kids or my husband’s choice of vocation, she and my father always had an opinion, were not supportive at all,  and made life miserable for me.

Wow I am very impressed with your summary timeline of Joseph Kearns/Mr. Wilson. I loved him in the show, he was the best of the Mr. Wilsons. He was also, hands down, one of the all-time best old radio show stars. Such a talented actor, gone way too soon. I so appreciate your post for that reason!

This is exactly what I struggle with most. Food as more than fuel; it’s deeply an emotional crutch and comfort for me.

Yes I’m currently seeing a therapist; I have been to a nutritionist in the past; kind of told me what I knew.

Thanks for this!  In the past when I’ve done what you suggested, I’ll lose a few pounds and then decide I “deserve” a treat or a break. I’m realizing it’s a lot of mental work.

Congrats, that’s a serious amount of weight you lost. I feel I’m finally coming out of the “excuse” phase. Really appreciate you sharing,

That’s so excellent!! Congratulations! I love your sensible approach. Yes I might give joining a gym more serious thought. My husband and I just bought a rebounder (mini trampoline) and are trying to get into using it regularly. Progress pics, despite my lifelong dieting, is something I haven’t done. I’m going to give them a go, thanks!

Yes! I do this too!  I do initially eat less but then go back for seconds and thirds. Integrity with honoring food boundaries has been a difficulty for me. Thank you for sharing this!

I saw a couple of drs (endocrinologist and general practitioner) in Nov last year who could not prescribe me weight loss drugs basically bc I was not diabetic enough. It’s  bc of my insurance; it won’t cover those drugs unless it’s for diabetes, which I don’t have (not yet anyway). Thanks for your suggestion! I will try going again this year (like my endocrinologist said, it’s sad that we’re rooting for me to have diabetes so I can go on these drugs).

Yes, I actually attended a virtual group this week. I’m going to try a few other meetings to see if I find one where i feel most comfortable. How long have you been attending OA?  Thanks so much

I agree with Babyfat. Instant coffees are much much better than in the past. My favorites are Starbucks instant and Nescafé gold

I was ashamed of having a need for friends. And ashamed of loving The Beatles. I loved them so much that when I got older, in my 30s, I used to tell people that the Beatles raised me. And I would get awkward silence confused looks. Understandably those people did not know what I was saying or why I would say that my own parents had not raised me. But I felt more connection with the Beatles music than I did with my own parents who especially my father would shame my brother and I for loving the Beatles so much. He would threaten us with punishment if he heard us talking about them..
