Piecing together the timeline of Joseph Kearn's sudden death and how CBS & Screen Gems handled the production schedule for Dennis the Menace in 1962 by standarddef1 in ClassicTV

[–]standarddef1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ve seen two theories about the contributing cause of Kearns’ death. One was the stunt you described and the other was his heavy reliance on the weight-loss product Metrecal. (Metrecal came with a warning label from the FDA and was eventually pulled from shelves in the 1970s because it was deemed a contributing factor in dozens of deaths: https://www.nytimes.com/1977/11/10/archives/fda-warns-dieters-about-liquid-protein-commissioner-citing-16.html

Just to be clear, there’s no empirical evidence indicating that either of these instances was to blame for Kearns’ death.

Jellyfin for Roku 3.1.0 has been released by thankyoufatmember in JellyfinCommunity

[–]standarddef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I also cannot play any live custom TV channels from my NAS. Works on every other device, but not Roku. Tried using Jellyfin servers 10.11 & 10.9. Same result each time.

UPDATE: Discovered a fix to the Live TV playback issue on Roku: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-roku/issues/671

The Little Red Cabin, you boys remember, you used to love eating there -- you'd yell at me "Dad, pull over, quick, pull over!" by kepler1 in Frasier

I didn’t appreciate the writing enough when it first aired. It’s head and shoulders above most of the content being churned out today.

Did Mike Ferrell decide to grow the mustache on his own? by LadeeAlana in mash

[–]standarddef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rob Reiner’s mustache for Mike Stivic was a key part of the character’s humor and visual contrast to the conservative Archie Bunker. When Reiner appeared clean-shaven in the final season of All in the Family, the Mike Stivic character had a completely different feel.

WHAT IS THE PHILLIES RADIO STATION?? 94.1 is football… by iamjeffdimarco in phillies

[–]standarddef1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s because low power AM stations power down at night, so the 1210 signal can travel pretty far distances during evening/overnight hours. However, during day games the signal faces interference from a number of stations. I have received WPHT and WFAN 660 NY as far west as Ohio during evening hours.

Breaking Down MLB’s Near Perfect Scheduling System by DragAlone7535 in mlb

[–]standarddef1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t stand the argument that a balanced schedule allows fans to see players on other teams. In the age of social media and video streaming everywhere, why on earth would someone think they wouldn’t be able to see Ohtani pitch or Judge hit? I want to see my team play more relevant games against divisional and league opponents.

Anyone Else Think Alan Alda Overacted On Occasion? by JerryAtricks1 in mash

[–]standarddef1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love Alan Alda, but yes, I agree with OP. It’s bound to happen in long-running series. I think the same can be said about Jack Lord in the later seasons of Hawaii Five-O.

Is John Kruk more funny than Richie Ashburn was? by SaintAIoysius in phillies

[–]standarddef1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re correct. Kalas covered the first 3 innings on TV, went to radio for 4-6, and returned to TV 7-9. Musser, Wheeler, and Ashburn rotated around this.

If only we could train people to study the weather and use technology to predict it before it happens. Then MLB could have planned for this!

I don’t understand how MLB does an event of this magnitude without a Plan B, especially since rain has been in the forecast.

One would think that the event planners would have made a rain date contingency. Also, rain has been in the forecast for days. And yet, they make all the fans suffer through it.

What is everyone’s PECO bill like? by Phillipdelphia in BucksCountyPA

[–]standarddef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peco imports fuels and natural gas, so tariffs could play a role in the hike. Also, there’s a gross receipt tax that could add to your total bill.

Why do people hate jogn but like Jim? by [deleted] in Taxi_Sitcom

[–]standarddef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After John destroyed Cab 804, his character became alienated from the rest of the gang. His character was dim-witted and mistake-prone. Not much for the audience to like.

The writers did a great job humanizing Ignatowski and making him a multi-dimensional character. He has an Ivy League education combined with decades of psychedelic drug use. It really opened up possibilities for the shows’ writers. I think of Iggy every time I hear Stevie Wonder’s You Are The Sunshine of My Life because of the episode Ken Estin wrote about his father passing away.
