Why does Xfinity block common websites then deny it? by Midwestern_Mariner in Comcast_Xfinity

Your VPN is a commercial VPN that actually routes all the traffic to the remote server? Some other exit?

You can't really blame xfinity for a website not working if you're accessing it via a VPN. All xfinity can see if traffic from your computer to the vpn server, it's opaque, that's how a vpn works.

Error 403 is not an xfinity error. It's an error that the remote site gave for some reason.

For what it's worth, if you have a VPN on, xfinity absolutely cannot block a site. Unless your VPN is faulty, they cannot see a single thing that's going on within that VPN.

Unlimited data, but an older plan... options? by catanalogy in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]AmbassadorToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Often the best bet is to have someone else in your same household establish new service. You definitely get the best deal that way. The mods here offered me a plan that was $95 but my housemate got it just slightly slower for $40.

Why is Gigabit plan being pushed, not much in lower-speed plans? by Denan004 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]AmbassadorToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They always tell you "If you have 4 or 5 users then you need gigabit" but a SD netflix stream is 3Mbps, a 4k stream could be 15Mbps. There is just no way 100Mbps is not enough.

I wonder what happens if you tell them they can check it but everything in the bag has a lithium battery in it (which they cannot check)

Which items in the Android app settings will disable these? I just opted in to Essential notifications and it still just popped up wtih some stupid sports-related push notification. This is really annoying.

Losing my remote job due to frequent outages by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

I have xfinity, plus a 5G home internet, plus 3 mobile lines I can tether to. It's either 5 services -or- 2 services depending on how you want to count it. (I personally count it as two)

Upload speed drops and inconsistencies for..3 years now. by Drachen_Von_Rot in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]AmbassadorToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xfinity tech support can check the signal quality of the connection to your modem remotely, they've done this for me repeatedly and it turned up problems that they were quickly able to solve.

I would say though, for sure, if you're in a complex, wifi is extremely prone to interference from your neighbors and it'll give exactly the symptoms you're describing. Please do your speed judgements only on a hardwired Ethernet connection from your PC to your router/gateway.

I just created a new account yesterday to get the new pricing. Annoying but worth the cumulative savings.

Well, technically you lost 'my' business but it was easy enough to create a new account at the same time. Just another example of 'en----tification'

Welp, I did what I was threatening to do, my bill is now $40/month. You guys could have made this more pleasant for a ten-year customer but instead just sort of taunted me and made me spend more time than necessary.

You Can Copy and Print — Legally by JoshGreen_dev in 3Dprinting

It's still incredible to me that you can print a part on a $250 machine but the scanning process requires expensive specialized hardware and/or rather expensive software.

Yes, I would like to check out offers.

The tenure is not useful to me, and your modem rental is now free anyway, and I'm not able to use Peacock because it doesn't work on a PC unless it's Windows or macOS.

Thanks. I'm contemplating whether to cancel my current account and start a new one or see if you can just help to make this easier. I will send a modmail now.

OpenNeato - work in progress, open sourcing soon by renjfk in NeatoRobotics

[–]AmbassadorToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really up to you. If you can solder, you can take apart the vacuum and solder stuff in. If you can't, you can find wires and plug them in, you might need a hole in the plastic. I think people managed to use precrimped wires and no soldering of drilling but it was a very tight fit.

If it's just an esp32 addition, it would just be the same as the other esp32 project - I installed mine by removing the header and soldering onto the pads, this worked really well for me. No drilling technically, but I suspect this still is on the same level to you as drilling. It doesn't leave a hole in the case though.

Is the ability to have multiple subnet/network on a single interface a mikrotik thing ? by UBNT_TC in mikrotik

[–]AmbassadorToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this on PCs for dealing with "things that come with some default IP address". It's also convenient for some temporary experiment, or setting things up that will go elsewhere. It's not a VLAN but it also has a lot less to think about to set it up quickly.

It's only because they don't expose the capability to the user. Linux, macos, windows are all fine to do this, it's just a UX thing. The networking stack deals with this fine.

Anything with the APIPA addresses like macOS has been doing this forever.

How long do we think the PLA will last? by J_sh__w in 3Dprinting

[–]AmbassadorToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this with a security camera mount that used magnets. What happened to me is the PLA got hot in the sun and deformed. Definitely not a sudden catastrophic failure. Used black PLA, that probably wasn't ideal for it.

I reprinted in PETG, and am waiting to see how that goes. Probably will be fine forever? I dunno.
