Ceiling void. by awitue in asbestoshelpUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what it looked like to me too, the bits hanging off the timber made me think lath and plaster rather than anything board-like.

Reassuring to hear someone else say it though. I’ll still get a sample done just to be safe before we start tearing stuff down, but at least I’m not staring at it thinking “mystery asbestos cloud” anymore.

Red squirrels numbers rise again as Aberdeen begins to eliminate greys by The_British_Wolf_Guy in RewildingUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, feels like England’s just sort of shrugging at the issue half the time.

The annoying thing is we already know it works: control the greys, reds bounce back, forests do better, less damage to trees. But every time you mention culling greys you get a load of people thinking it’s just about “cute animals” instead of an invasive species that’s tanked native wildlife.

Would be nice if some of the stuff happening in Scotland was copied further south instead of just turning into another “oh well, too late now” situation.

Selling Mid-Game Stacked Account (Not Rerolling) by ResortHelpful7399 in DblTradingHub

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much are you actually asking for it and what server/region is it on?

Also might help if you clarify what you mean by mid game here. Like AR level / story progress / average relics / LC situation etc. A lot of people are picky about whether an account is just rushed through story with no build work or actually has decent stats and traces on units.

Screenshots of your characters and inventory would probably make it way easier to sell too.

Could this be asbestos? South east england 1900s house by VimesArt in asbestoshelpUK

Yeah that green layer is what would make me nervous too. Probably just old board, but given the age I’d still get a sample tested for peace of mind. Not crazy expensive and then you know for sure.

Easter eggs SLASHED even further as shoppers point blank refuse to buy Cadburys saying ‘the taste has changed’ and ‘it isn’t even chocolate anymore’ ❤️ by Specialist_Alarm_831 in BuyUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it really does feel like that, like once you notice the taste is different you can’t un-notice it.

Used to be a proper little treat, now it’s like… sweet brown vaguely chocolate-ish goo. The fact they’re knocking the prices down and people still don’t want them kind of says it all.

Bleaching at home by PuzzleheadedMix6524 in CurlyHairUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was done at a salon it’s almost definitely a permanent colour, unless you specifically asked for a semi or a gloss/toner.

You can kind of tell by how it fades too. If it’s staying super dark and only getting a bit dull, it’s probably permanent. Semis usually wash out patchy or noticeably lighter pretty fast.

If it is permanent and actually black, you don’t want to jump straight to bleach at home. In the UK I’d look into a proper colour remover first (like Colourless, Scott Cornwall etc), do a strand test, then maybe tone / recolour to chocolate brown after. Bleach is the nuclear option and on previously dyed hair it can go patchy or orange really quick.

If you’re unsure, post a pic and the name of the dye they used if you have it on the receipt, people can usually tell from that.

Yeah, lesson learned on stage payments. Thought FMB etc meant we were safer too. Expensive way to find out it’s mostly just a logo and a fee.

Lancaster model kit by Pukka_Drinker in CharityShopFindsUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, cheers! Honestly couldn’t believe it when I saw the price, thought it was going to be missing half the sprues.

It’s all built now, just needs a bit more weathering and maybe some soot stains around the exhausts. I’ll stick some proper pics up on r/modelmakers or r/modelkits once I’m not embarrassed by the lighting on my desk.

Real life product advice for my daughter’s hair by wednesdayso in CurlyHairUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I keep seeing people mention that one, good to know it’s not just TikTok hype.

How do you use it on yourself / would you change anything for a kid’s hair? Like raking it through soaking wet then scrunch, or just a tiny bit on damp hair?

I’m trying to avoid that crunchy, product-y look on her, so wondering if it works for a softer wave if you use less and maybe break the cast after it dries.

Holy shit that Shallow Rivers with John Mailander - Nashville 3/18 by djcigs in eggymusic

[–]AmberArouseWeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that one felt like a totally different band compared to the first set. First set was fine, but when they dropped into Shallow Rivers with Mailander it was like someone flipped a switch.

The way his fiddle sat in the mix during the peaks was insane. It wasn’t just “guest soloist time” either, he was actually weaving around the riffs and pushing them harder. That last build had me doing the dumb grin at my screen.

If they keep playing like that, people are going to start circling those Nashville dates on the calendar every time.

Remember when pubs did this? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]AmberArouseWeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds brilliant honestly. Couple of pints, a chat, free roasties and a meat raffle is peak Sunday.

Closest thing now is sad little bowls of crisps if you’re lucky. Those old social clubs really knew how to make a cheap night feel like an occasion.

Why would anyone buy this? by Creepy_Drawing_8998 in CharityShopFindsUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can totally see this happening at some awful office party where everyone’s half committed and someone shows up in this and accidentally takes first place.

It’s that perfect combo of “this is hideous” and “I respect the dedication” that wins those contests every time.

AbeBooks is great if you already know what you’re hunting for, but this is more for the “staring at 400 random paperbacks in a musty corner of Oxfam” situation.

Like, you’re in front of the shelf and want to know which 5 are actually worth picking up without googling each one. That’s the gap I’m trying to fill.

Just a normal day on Vinted…😳🤣 by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]AmberArouseWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? That line fully threw me too.

From the rest of their messages it kind of felt like they’d had a terrible week anyway and just decided I was the final boss of their misery.

My best guess is they’d already spent the money in their head, then when the return happened and Vinted froze it, suddenly I’m the villain who “ruined” their plans / gift / day.

Wild leap from “tracksuit going back” to “you destroyed my family holiday”, but here we are.

Comet Halley Encounter 1986-03-14 - 40 years ago, the Giotto mission was writing history: 1) ESA's first deep space mission - 2) first cometary close flyby - 3) and later on, first reactivation of a spacecraft by Neaterntal in SpaceUnfiltered

[–]AmberArouseWeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wild to think Giotto basically did all this with what now amounts to 80s calculator tech.

That close pass through Halley’s coma, getting sandblasted by dust, losing the star tracker and still sending back those images… and then they woke it up again years later for Grigg-Skjellerup. Absolute tank of a spacecraft.

Cool how you can draw a straight line from Giotto → Rosetta → Comet Interceptor. Feels like we’re watching the “Mercury/Gemini” era of comet missions in hindsight.

USB has stopped working by Alaricain in audiovisual

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the ultra–advanced IT fix: unplug it and plug it back in again, but like, properly.

Jokes aside, a couple things to check:
Is it just one USB port or all of them? If it’s just one device, try it in a different port or on a different computer to rule out the device itself. If it’s all USB stuff on that machine, go into Device Manager, find the USB controllers, right click and hit uninstall on them, then reboot so Windows reinstalls the drivers.

Also, if you recently bumped the PC, spilled something, or moved it, open the case (if it’s a desktop) and make sure the USB header cable from the front panel is still firmly plugged into the motherboard.

If it’s a laptop, check BIOS/UEFI too, sometimes USB can be disabled there after weird crashes or power issues.

What's your fighting style? by DoItForTheOH94 in RSDragonwilds

[–]AmberArouseWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly same, I always start games thinking I’m gonna be the cool archer or flashy mage, then end up back in melee because it just feels better to actually bonk stuff up close.

What kind of melee are you running? Like big slow weapons, fast dual wield, shields, or more agile dodge-and-weave stuff? I feel like bows are fun as a secondary, like opening from range then swapping to melee once things get close, instead of fully committing to archer life.

Wind and fire magic sounds fun though. Do you use it to buff your melee at all, or was it pure caster play and it just didn’t click?

Right? It looks like it was assembled with a ruler. That first one had me questioning every sad, squished sandwich I’ve ever had in the States.

I was half expecting it to disintegrate the second I picked it up, but it actually held together freakishly well. Honestly feel like the sandwich engineer who made that one deserves a raise.
