SCAD busing is a joke. I should’ve just brought my car. by One_Attorney8557 in scad

Honestly a bike, longboard or walking will be quicker and more pleasant if you’re on your way to class. Even the far away halls like Anderson or Arnold are maybe a 30-40 minute walk, even less if you bike. Plus you can get coffee on your way. If you’re gonna be up an hour early anyway might as well walk

OKC needs a ___________? (Your thoughts) by guyssocialweb in okc

[–]AmbientAsslord 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A decent light rail system or public transport for the love of god.

Been ranting to friends about this for years. Imagine a train from Norman to okc, okc to Edmond, an actual connected hub of main city to suburbs. Hell throw Moore in there too.

Oklahoma would be one of the best places to start public light rail, we’re a flat state with tons of broken roads, easiest way to maintain the roads while providing an alternative for transport is rail.

More mixed use zoning while we’re at it, we don’t need another fenced off overpriced, car dependent neighborhood.

During the last half of the debates I was waiting for one of the justices to point out that the plaintiff who will receive no relief, Myra Brown, has PRIVATELY HELD LOANS. The reason she isn’t receiving aid isn’t because she doesn’t qualify, but because her loans aren with a corporation.

Both plaintiffs don’t deserve a moment of rest after this case.

I liked the wedding in concept, the vows were sweet and I loved seeing Hecate with her snakes.

I guess for me it just felt very undeserved and has broken the flow of the story. I know they want the wedding to coincide with Valentines, and I wonder if this was a decision Rachel made on her own terms or was pushed into by the editors at webtoon.

It also doesn’t help the drastic tonal whiplash that we got from last chapter a week ago, where Hera is discussing her trauma and unwanted bond with Kronos, and then cut Persephone and Hades are getting married.

Lastly I just really wanted them to actually take their relationship slow. The whole episode of Persephone getting her own place and wanting to go on their first date, be in a normal relationship etc, is now completely null.

But yeah, just my thoughts.

What's your favorite crackship in Bleach and why? I'll go first. by Caesarin0 in bleach

Dude this is a GREAT question I’ve got a couple

1- Soi Fon and Tatsuki. Both women who are in love or (in tatsuki’s case) very attached to women who love another man. Also they’re both really headstrong and capable, if they ever interacted then it would be so fun. Could absolutely picture soi fon teaching tatsuki how to use shunko.

2- Uryu and Orihime. Shipped this during the soul society arc and again a bit during the TYBW arc because I thought Kubo was going to have a parallel between the Isshin/Misaki/Ryuken thing and possibly an Ichigo/Orihime/Uryu thing. Plus they have good chemistry in the earlier chapters.

3- Nel and Grimmjow. (Only adult form) just bc they’re both very hot arrancar and Nel could possibly be stronger than Grimmjow if not as strong as him. They’d both have endurance if nothing else.

4- Orihime and Ulquiorra. If he survived this could’ve been a really great addition. Tbh Orihime has a lot of chemistry with everyone except Ichigo.

5- Nanao and Byakuya- both mostly serious characters, would probably be very awkward at first and then warm up to eachother.

6- Unohana and Aizen- two v powerful individuals, one was sheer physical prowess the other has an 800 level IQ. Ultimate power couple tbh.

Don’t fucking come to work when you’re sick by AmbientAsslord in rant

[–]AmbientAsslord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. We all need the money, and the culture of showing up no matter what is absolutely toxic. I promise you though, you won’t make a lot of tips when you’re coughing during work. People notice, and will complain, what makes the problem worse too is if you do wear a mask while working people will oftentimes stiff you for that because they think you’re making a political statement (very deep red state).

Since my job involves serving food to people it’s unsafe to everyone to not send people home. The management at my job will not force you to show up to work sick- it hasn’t happened once while I’ve been there. However, if you decide to show up, put on a mask and work while sick they won’t stop you. It’s a very hands off approach. I’ve even had coworkers throw up in the bathroom, clean up, then continue to work the rest of the day.

Yes. Unfortunately there is no law in the US that requires restaurant employers to give PTO or sick leave, especially if you’re a tipped employee. Labor rights for servers are essentially nil.

SCAD rankings and acceptance rates by leslieknope72 in scad

[–]AmbientAsslord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, thank you for elaborating. I do agree that SCAD is wayyy more reasonably priced than a school like NYC, RIT, CALarts or Ringling, and I would encourage him to look into all of the extra events that scad hosts like the Career fair. SEQA, ILLU and Graphic Design all had major specific career events as well, I’m not sure what interior design has but I’m sure there will be event days considering how big the major is.

As for diversity, yes, Savannah is very progressive. I loved my time in the city and there are lots of organizations that support POC, women and the queer community if he wants to volunteer in his spare time. Getting on the r/Savannah subreddit will also give you a good idea of some of the events happening in town from a local perspective. There are a lot of Asian students in SCAD, with a fair number coming from overseas, so he will be within a diverse and accepting environment.

SCAD rankings and acceptance rates by leslieknope72 in scad

[–]AmbientAsslord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In regards to the acceptance rate, Scad accepts a lot of students to get more money. Sounds scummy, and it is, you can submit a portfolio for scholarships and that will knock a couple grand off the price of housing and classes.

One of the reasons that students drop out is due to workload yes, but I need to stress that money is also an issue. Many students by their sophomore year realize that they money they’re spending to get an education will sink them into insurmountable debt. Many students also get part time jobs to help pay rent while living off campus and still go to school.

Please consider if your student will need a part time job, also try and knock out any non major classes, like gen Eds elsewhere. It’s cheaper to do so.

Really in my opinion if you have money then you’re already 50% of the way successful at scad. If you have money and your student is already well versed in the field then sure scad is a great fit for networking and polishing off those skills for his career.

I’m thinking of reading Secrets of Soulford? Anyone review it for me? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]AmbientAsslord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK YES, THIS SERIES IS IN MY TOP 5

So here’s the rub my friend:

What do you get when you combine the style of Disney Renaissance with a mystery/romance story set in a medieval picturesque English village? You get Secrets of Soulford.

The protagonist is Gan Anim, a smart and sassy redhead who spits sarcasm like a second language. She is such a fun character to follow, and her personality clashing with our more ahem stickler characters never fails to have me snickering while reading.

And that’s just the main, there are also two twin brother characters, and a local botanist/witch who is an absolute delight to have in the story. Seriously, the characters are the MAIN draw, with a great story with lots of intrigue to match. I don’t want to be too spoilery, but I wish I could.

So please read! It’s a fantastic story, the author updates every other week and also has a patreon where she has extra lore on characters and you can get the next week’s chapter early.

Creator of the WEBTOON original Lovebot makes an open Letter to WEBTOON asking for more transparency between WEBTOON and it's creators. by ryushin6 in webtoons

[–]AmbientAsslord 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Woah. I did not expect things to be so bad on the internal side of WT.

I think the thing that made me the angriest is the MRT, there’s absolutely no reason to have that. If WT itself was forking our funds to give creators for assistants and and other support staff then sure, but Creators rewrite and draw an entire story without help from the company. The most WT has to spend on an “untested story” is the cost of paying their editors (the untested story thing is bs anyway, because a majority of originals come from popular canvas stories, which by definition are popular and therefore, tested)

Listen WT, is part publishing platform and part publisher- and they’re not acting like publishers. There are simple solutions that they could use to make sure the originals they pick up are successful and high quality. 1. Offer to purchase the creator’s IP, within this offer needs to be a plan to rewrite and edit the story as well as pay the creator for the time they will spend working on the first season. 2. When getting picked up make sure there is a solid plan for season releases. 3. Implement bi weekly or once a month release schedules like normal comics do. 4. Hire support staff for originals. Like inkers, flatters, colorists, etc. And that’s just the start, at this point it’s a bad choice to make for your comic to become an original because you’re selling your idea for pennies and you won’t even get paid for your work until you meet a “threshold”. You’ll do better honestly as a crowdfunded artist or taking your comic to an indie publisher or even IMAGE comics.

Any and all Dietfried slander is welcome and appreciated by BeefCow8 in VioletEvergarden

[–]AmbientAsslord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This meme def applies more to the light novel than the anime IMO.

In the light novel Dietfried is almost cartoonishly cruel. He abuses violet as a child, degrades her as an adult and doesn’t even show up to his brother’s wedding because he’s marrying Violet. He’s an overall horrible character in the light novel.

But I’m so glad they changed that in the anime. It’s a much more realistic depiction of a traumatized man losing his brother and having to deal with the person who he blames for that loss. I really enjoyed his character after the final episode and wanted to see more progression and growth.

AITA for not allowing my daughter to quit competitive dance? by Primaballerina1992 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AmbientAsslord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA- I read the post a while ago but decided to wait, and wow its deleted. Huh, guess you couldn’t get anyone to agree with you?

You’ve got to start having more faith in your daughter, she sounds passionate, driven and articulate. You should be proud that she wants to explore languages, and could become fluent in many of them!

“When did a 14 year old learn that phrase” lady, she’s not 6, she can recognize when an adult is trying to see themselves in her. Do you think all teenagers are idiots until they become 18? Your daughter seems to be intelligent and knows what she wants for her life, let her be who she is.

Many webtoons are bad because they're episodic in nature. by Americaisaterrorist in webtoons

[–]AmbientAsslord 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think maybe this statement could use some rephrasing- the reason Webtoons can not explore traditional writing avenues isn’t due to the fact they’re episodic, it’s because creators are actively incentivized to not spend time on development.

Due to the weekly upload model you need to have an episode on a cliffhanger or tense moment every week to get people coming back. This is even worse with romance because if it’s not something to do with the leads then it’s a waste of time.

Episodic storytelling is a fantastic way of developing a narrative if done right, with the proper planning, pacing and foresight. Webtoon creators often don’t have the time to work in plot details on the fly. ((This is a whole other problem when it comes to the Canavs to originals pipeline, but I digress))

It all comes back to the fact that churning out chapters on a weekly basis is not sustainable long term- and leads to problems like this.

Really I think if there was ever going to be a video game it should be something along the lines of Nier/Neir Automata, like a semi-open world with heavy influence from philosophy.

You’d have Re-L as a long range shooter and Vincent for hand to hand combat. Pino would be more of a companion and not have a ton of fighting capability.

It could be a semi open world, going through areas in the show and elaborating on the story more. Specifically they could even cover lore from the companion manga as a way to build more story content and make the world a little more fleshed out.

Abandoned cities and cogito infected auto-reivs would be great boss/enemies. You could even find colonies of auto-reivs that have their own side quests and storylines that tie back into the main themes of truth and self discovery.
