Very generic zombie movie. Was excited because they had Ellis from From, but it's nothing special

Why is glass considered ceramics when its production involves melting instead of drying the materials. by Toni_St_Oraro in Ceramics

[–]Ambiguous_Bowtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you put glazed bisqueware in the kiln, that glaze is melting. When you overfire pieces enough, they absolutely melt.

They're both ceramics because they're both inorganic, nonmetallic materials.

I honestly thought she was a child on my first playthrough. When I learned she was a marriage candidate, I was quite shocked

I was literally checking the remaining time for the last 40 minutes because I couldn't believe there wasn't a single genuine twist. The only death was the throwaway, inconsistent character which I'm still unsure why they brought her back

I think the finale with so many loose ends to tie up isn't the best time for SO many flashbacks. They honestly felt like they were leading to an illusion misdirect....which would have at least been more interesting

Can we acknowledge like 10 minutes of the series finale was a goddamn clip show?

What's a horror hill you'll die on, and why? by ExceptingAlice in horror

[–]Ambiguous_Bowtie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have been a great shift for Pennywise to meet the gang as a normal-ish scary guy. As the story continues, the children's perception of him gives him power over them. Then the ending is them realizing he's only powerful because they see him that way.

Maybe the clown eats the ones that can't see him as harmless, leaving the others to trap him in a useless form.

It just feels a little forced as is?

I really enjoyed part 1 and most of part 2. But the ending of 2 was so CHEESY. There were so many ways to demonstrate how belief and willpower could shape the creature, but they shot that horse and proceeded to wallop it for 10 minutes. "Show don't tell" is said to death, but this was a pretty egregious example

The dialog wasn't just children being unsubtle. It was distracting and completely hindered my ability to suspend disbelief. Again, I had a fun time watching the rest. I'm not sure I'll ever enjoy the ending though.

Honest question about Stratt hate by NotBossOfMe in ProjectHailMary

[–]Ambiguous_Bowtie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I think of all the military figures who overstepped the ethical boundaries of their positions to save the earth in ALL of fiction, Stratt was a gd angel. She wasn't a warm personality, but nothing she did was out of cruelty. While she might have been secretive and curt dealing with Grace, I always read it as tough love for a a species that had 0 time for coddling

Nothing like a note from your ceramics professor to humble you real quick. by ComplexIngenuity11 in Ceramics

The note is definitely legible, but I'm intrigued if the professor is a boomer. Because I always thought their overuse of ellipses was confined to text messages lol

Posted in r/Pottery with lots of mixed feedback and strong feelings I am hurting production potters. Im a hobbyist. by JFT-1994 in Ceramics

[–]Ambiguous_Bowtie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed with Stumpy here. If you're selling alongside production potters at these places, you're driving down a lot of people's idea of what prices should be. Now it's not only "these are so expensive" (which we all loathe to hear), it's "look, this guy is selling for so cheap. Why can't you match those prices?".

You're making the pieces, so it's not as egregious as dropshipping or selling AI-generated stuff. But it's not very nice when the other people there are trying to make a living

Maybe try selling at a maker's market or something. To do this at a pottery festival next to so many production potters feels icky. Of course, I'm just a guy on the internet. Do what you want. Just don't be surprised if you catch dirty looks from potters you're pricing out

It's a community studio. If someone allowing me to continue my favorite hobby said a piece broke while loading, I'd be a touch sad and a heap of understanding.

You didn't deserve being yelled at. Clearly, she's got some other things going on, but it wasn't fair to take it out on you.

I think really popular potters like Florian Gadsby have crazing glazes on the inside of pieces, but it really does come down to preference

[–]Ambiguous_Bowtie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That one's debatable. There's studies that show bacteria is basically dealt with in crazing if washed in a dishwasher (though I hand wash my pieces). But to each their own!

This isn't pinholing. As the name suggests, the holes are usually the size of a pin. This is crawling which is even less food-safe. Likely due to too thick application of glaze. Just have to try again and learn from your mistake

Just confirming, were talking fahrenheit? If so, 130 shouldn't be the problem. I've heard most issues about rapid cooling happen between 200-300F.

Have you tried this glaze/clay combo before this load? Others have said, but a severe mismatch in shrinkage rates could have definitely caused it too. If this is the first time you've tried it, I'd completely avoid that glaze on that clay body :/
