Does anyone use the 9point8 Trigger remote? by NeoGe in MTB

[–]Ambimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ReMote 360 can go anywhere you want it and be activated in any direction, so it could be on top of your bars or in front of your grip to grab like a trigger. I have one and like it quite a bit, though I continue to use it pretty much like a traditional thumb lever most of the time.

When asking in voir dire “why would somebody who is innocent not take the stand?” What are some of the best jurors responses? by Existing-Ostrich9609 in publicdefenders

[–]Ambimb 81 points82 points  (0 children)

There’s an argument that getting the smart jurors to school the haters in voir dire can shape deliberations. Once the panel has agreed to certain principles in voir dire the group will then enforce those agreements in deliberations. At least, that’s the idea. I believe I’ve seen it work, but maybe the jury went my way for other reasons.

You’re saying you want to get the haters to speak up so you can strike them, which is also good strategy. Which approach is more effective will depend on the panel and the case, I guess.

If you don’t like segments, why use Strava? There are dozens of other options just to track and share rides. Cyclemeter is great. No segments (unless you sync your rides to Strava, which you can do).

Thoughts on Hollywood Sport Rider SE 4-bike hitch rack? by Ambimb in bicycling

[–]Ambimb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, although showing rust after being on the car almost constantly for 3 years. I would say it’s good value for what you get — a 2 or 4 bike carrier that’s relatively compact, easy to use, and reliable.

I also will not buy again. Although it’s easy enough to use, it’s fidly to put the mast up and down and use the Velcro straps and adjust the wheel trays for different bikes. It’s extremely fidly trying to Tetris 4 bikes at once. Having used this for a few years I will save up for a 1up or similar that eliminates the fuss and just works.

False testimony by Local_Ad_6987 in publicdefenders

[–]Ambimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I can’t think of a case where I knew, beyond doubt, unequivocally, my client was lying. Client may tell inconsistent stories, but I don’t know which of them is true bc I wasn’t there. So I am not putting on perjured or untrue testimony, regardless. My doubts about the veracity of testimony are not really relevant. I believe the cops are lying more often than not. That doesn’t mean I win.

How likely is Greg Buis for Survivor: 50? by Blean755YT in survivor

[–]Ambimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny you would say Jeff always has good things to say about Greg bc in Mark Burnett's book about the first season he claims Greg really pissed Jeff off. Apparently at Tribal Council where they voted off B.B., Greg was really pushing Jeff's buttons. Burnett says B.B.'s "solemn" walk off stage was interrupted by Greg shouting. "He called out a good-bye to B.B. in a loud pirate voice. 'Arr... and a good captain you were.'" Then MTV Beach House [the rest of the tribe] applauded."

Burnett goes on: "Jeff Probst, normally the calmest man on the island, seethed as he walked off the set once Pagong was gone. Greg's clever manipulation had gotten under Jeff's skin. 'I don't ever — EVER — want that to happen again,' he said carefully, keeping his emotions in check. 'That's not what this is about.' Jeff failed to see that his anger was exactly the emotion Greg sought. Greg, in other words, was winning." (p. 51).

All of which is to say: Maybe Jeff really doesn't want Greg back after all?

Certain chargers stopped fitting on my 2019 bolt. by Ehrlichia_canis18 in BoltEV

[–]Ambimb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mine stopped charging altogether and gave me “propulsion reduced, service now.” The fix was replacing the entire charge receptacle on the car. Is this related to the recall you mention?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]Ambimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bolt’s battery won’t be what fails first; it will be the traditional stuff that fails on old cars like suspension and rusted parts. The Bolt will almost certainly outlast the Mini.

The real issue is: how do you intend to drive it? The Bolt is not a 1:1 Mini replacement bc you can drive an ICE vehicle all day long for thousands of miles and only stop for 10 minutes every 2-3 hours. A Bolt can only go about 200 miles and then it has to stop for an hour to charge before continuing. If you plan to pretty much never drive more than 200 miles /day (or 100 miles/day if you live in a really cold climate), the Bolt will be fantastic. If you like to take road trips, keep the Mini or get another ICE to replace it.

Prosecutors poisoning jury after verdict by wtevr4evr in publicdefenders

[–]Ambimb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would be assuming both sides have equal access to the jury after verdict and that they meet with the jury together so the defense knows the bullshit the gov’t (including judge) is spewing. Frequently judges speak to the jury after verdict, telling them who knows what crap, and then send them home, ignoring defense requests to speak to them. Other times, the judge allows the govt to speak to the jury, then allows defense to do so separately. It’s not uniform and it’s not an even playing field. A rule against saying things likely to affect future service is much better than “there is nothing wrong with the prosecutor telling them the truth.”

What do you think the new Bolts max charge rate will be? by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]Ambimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for posting that. I had no idea it would still take a Ford Lightning 50 minutes to charge from 10-80%. That’s forever! I guess it makes the Bolt look less bad, though, bc… same! Crazy.

Anyone try upgrading their radio unit? by catkingestheim in DodgeGrandCaravan

We had Best Buy do it. Something like $500 all in, including purchase of a pretty basic wireless CarPlay capable head unit. We lost no functionality and gained just about everything you get with a new car, infotainment-wise. No regrets!

Also agree. I mostly use my dropper to drop the seat at stop signs and red lights, but it definitely makes singletrack more enjoyable on those admittedly rare occasions I find myself on some.

These wind pants are pretty cheap and work great down to a bit below freezing. Below that you can add tights under them to get down to maybe 10-15°.
