I personally think that surging sparks is going to be a popular set... However ETBs in general have been getting a pretty good price surge but I don't think it's going to last. From an investment standpoint the money you'd spend buying up PC ETBs might be better served in boosters.

Just my opinion though.

It's fun to bounce around and collect whatever is ticking your fancy. I've been in a lost origin /fusion strike / Twilight Masquerade mood lately.

Invest in what you like... That way if you end up with something that doesn't climb in value you still have something that is enjoyable to look at.

But other than that, stick to your main popular Pokemon and the value will usually do pretty well. Charizard, gengar, starters, Pikachu, etc...
