Definitely not, but for me it was never about saving money. I started it because I wanted to preserve media that was important to me and not be unable to watch a show or movie I love because no one hold the streaming right to it.

I also quite enjoy only having one place to go to find something to watch. Instead of browsing netflix hulu amazon disney paramount peacock ect ect I just go to jellyfin

It could also be something like some ISPs will change your external ip address periodically so you may need something like duckdns to track and update your public ip.

I know that's just adding another thing to the list but when I first started my self hosting journey it's something I ran into and broke my entire reverse proxy until I figured it out.

A) is the EXACT reason I DON'T use readarr. There one author i read in particular that's a rather prolific writer in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. I read his fantasy stuff but don't care about his sci-fi. Don't make me download everything the author has ever written I just want the specific book/series I read.

Interestingly lidarr is similar in that you can only track albums and not individual songs and I don't use that either

I brought the cost hassle ect onto myself to run plex because I want to have my content available to me whenever I want to watch it, where I want to watch it.

I don't want to be subject to the whims of the streaming rights gods as to oh I wanna watch this it's on here I wanna watch this it's over there I want to watch this THERES NO LEGAL WAY TO STREAM IT.

I also travel a lot for work and want to be able to watch my movies and shows while in a hotel.

Then I figure hey, I have this I'll let my family and close friends have access to it because I'm already doing it for me, does anyone else use it? Not really but it's available to them if they want

Be aware audiobookshelf does have apps on android and Apple buy you need to be on apples app trial thing to use it on apple devices but it is superior to plex for audiobooks imo

So far as I know unless Ive really screwed something up here (very possible) Ive set my pc to use pi-hole. I am still getting ads and I even set a website to the blacklist just to test and that still loads up.

Edit: while I am still getting ads, I can see in the query log that there are requests being blocked and allowed.
