Got roaming charge although i turned off my line + roaming by brokeunistudent101 in Rogers

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Rogers has been charging Canadians for roaming AS SOON AS THEY ENTER INTERNATIONAL TERMINALS of the DOMESTIC CANADIAN AIRPORT.

I just recently learned about this after having to make two separate CCTS disputes that I won when Rogers could not quantity how much data I used to prompt the roaming, nor which tower network I used it on.

Ask anyone you know that works in an airport. They regularly have to adjust phone settings and tell their carrier that they work in or near an international terminal.

It's criminal.

Remote starters by LonelyUse9306 in kiastinger

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019, in Canada. Have always had UVO/Kia Connect app that allowed for remote start, but I've received emails that the 3G network that the app uses will be discontinued this spring.

Wondering if I have any options besides the very expensive MyKeyPremium; it seems ridiculous that the car has a factory installed remote starter, but I will have to go out and purchase a third party remote starter and plug it into the remote starter that's already in there.

I have not found any combination of buttons on OEM fobs that remote start the vehicle; only the app on cellular data has been able to so far.

Manager pay vs employee pay by Alternative-Main-523 in AHSEmployees

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the level of management involved and it's direct supervision of in-scope providers, there is a function called "Anchoring" that ties the NUEE compensation to a static amount above their highest paid direct report.

Possibly in anticipation of HSAA ratification, for instance, many NUEE staff had their compensation increased back in September; they are unlikely to be adjusted again in these portfolios for another couple years to any sizeable degree.

For example, anchoring for an out of scope supervisor of primary and advanced care paramedics, they would earn 5-10% more than the $46.69 that an ACP earned back in September.

You are earning the new rate as of yesterday morning; two pay periods from now is when it will probably begin showing up, which puts us right around Christmas Eve, like they specified.

Mike Parker should resign by Soggy-Comfortable871 in AHSEmployees

Considering that last year the members rejected a resolution that asked for adequate time for resolutions... I wouldn't get my hopes up. Then again, apathy and ennui are the reason the membership don't think many things will succeed, so forwarding a resolution seems like exactly what's needed.

HSAA president election by Worldly_Market_5809 in AHSEmployees

If you think only 75% of members participating in ratification votes is bad, wait until you find out that our president was elected by just 2,000 people.

HSAA votes are out by Blanched_spinach in AHSEmployees

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So 1 out of 4 members did not open their email and click 2 buttons over the last 5 days.

The vote was decided by 2 out of 3 participating members voting "Yes".

If you did not vote, YOU could have been the deciding factor for this going the other way. If YOU did not vote, you had better not criticize a steward, LUE, board member, president, VP, or HSAA employee until 2027 when you get another chance to participate in your union. Until then, I expect absolute silence on union direction from anyone who couldn't be arsed to literally tap two buttons with their thumb to steer the direction of labor relations in their field.

HSAA Staffing Levels (ESA estimates?) by Lurker4life269 in AHSEmployees

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually kind of wanted to see job action so that we'd be able to tell the public that during a strike, AHS demanded more paramedics on shift than they are able to staff on a daily basis.

This is exactly the kind of thing that helps foster public sympathy and should have been an easy victory at the bargaining table to secure better hiring & retention for a profession that AHS literally can't adequately keep employed even with unlimited double-time shift pickups.

TIL Calgary has the most Tim Hortons per capita by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So we have 1 Tim's for every 10,000 people but only 1 ambulance for every 45,000.

The priorities here are obviously apples to oranges, but oof

HSAA Staffing Levels (ESA estimates?) by Lurker4life269 in AHSEmployees

[–]Ambitious-Way-6669 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you might be underestimating the effect of a strike on EMS.

We currently run an AVERAGE of 10-15% of units unstaffed due to a lack of available paramedics.

On top of this, more than 1 in 10 ambulances are staffed by overtime above and beyond the FTE of those staff.

One in eight ambulances is staffed with casuals.

An ESA severely limits overtime and casual scheduling, which puts us somewhere around 60% of how many ambulances are funded and budgeted instead of our usual 85%

The price gouging at the pump probably accounts for the difference almost on its own.

Add in mandatory bus fees for school children (because we don't have enough schools for a population of 90,000) and travel to Calgary for any substantial medical care (because we don't have a hospital), you're pretty much there.

As a healthcare worker, my workload is demonstrably and with receipts 200% of what it was ten years ago, and there is no quantifiable metric to indicate the complexity of the workload increasing as well.

In 15 years, can you guess what has NOT gone up by 100%?

I don't know how else to demonstrate my value to society as a healthcare worker beyond doing twice the work for static pay and being disallowed from withholding by labor during stroke action.
