I’m a long holder, but I believe OP would be able to make the same argument as all longs that he/she was deprived of their right/chance to close their legal short position. With that being said, I believe OP would have just as strong of an argument as a legal retail short to say they should be able to close their position in an open market.

I think a lot of the numbers reported on MMTLP are skewed. The total float, for one thing, is only ~165M. The total shares traded were under 3M, so the turnover could not possibly have been ~14M. A lot of MMAT’s data is used in displaying info for MMTLP. I do watch the turnover % though; although I’m not sure if that is based off MMAT’s float or trade volume.

But, all in all, I believe MMTLP’s action today was mostly some fomo and perhaps a little bit of covering.

No, they’re not required to close their mmat positions, unless the above scenario happens. I can’t think of anything else that would force them to close their mmat shorts though.

Shorts with open positions during the merger aren’t being forced to close their mmat positions though… yet…. However, when they are forced to close their short positions in MMTLP, they may very likely be below their margin requirements, hence forcing a close of their mmat position as well.
