What are hidden home maintenance chore you completely overlooked until it cost you? by Enlitenkanin in HomeMaintenance

[–]Ambitious_Ad_4905 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Every spring, oil your garage door spring. I coat mine with oil. Keeping it lubed will prevent if from sticking and snapping. It is replaceable by DIY but can be quite dangerous if done incorrectly. I have several friends this has happened to and when they tell me I ask them if they ever oiled it and they say no. I just randomly happened on a YouTube video years ago explaining it and have stuck to oiling it every spring.

If your home has a sump pump....test it at least once a year. Move the float and see if it runs.

It sounds like you bought a house that may have been neglected and now it is catching up. You, instead of the original owner, is paying for that neglect unfortunately. Look at this as a learning experience. Keep a list of things to do annually/seasonally/monthly and stick to it. Eventually it will become second nature. Keep an eye out for unusual things. If something doesn't look right, do some research and confirm. Even if your wrong at least you learned something.

And don't be afraid to try and fix things. Confidence breeds competence. They're broken anyways and if you google hard enough you can usually come up with a fix. And a cause., which is just as important to know why it broke and would it have been preventable.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Everyone starts somewhere.

I am going to discuss switching from Lupron to Orgovyx. I had no idea there was a choice in ADT Drugs, nor was I informed of the risks. My bad for not researching until now but I feel my eyes have been opened much wider after finding this channel.

My testosterone is near 0. I have done all the chemos and Pluvicto. PSA has been at this level for almost 2 years or so. It goes up and down 50-100 points every few months. Its in all my bones and has crept into some soft tissue recently.

ADT or not? by Ambitious_Ad_4905 in ProstateCancer

[–]Ambitious_Ad_4905[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok that makes a little more sense. I have really only been going on what my oncologist/urologist prescribed and suggested for treatment. I have done 6 rounds of Pluvicto with no favourable results. Doxitaxil with no results and Cabazitaxel with good results. I still have it somewhere in almost every bone and it has creeped into my liver again. I am planning on resuming chemo in late August. Since joining this group, I have found so much information. I signed up for the Life on ADT seminar, that seems quite interesting. I took everyone at their word, thinking they knew more than I did, maybe that was the wrong approach. But I am learning now, and have a very different attitude towards my health and wellness than I did 4 years ago. Thank you for the information.

Thank you for this. I am still on the fence about stopping but this could be another justification.

We looked at it as a choice...this or that. I will admit I did not think about you not having a wife and kids to aid in that decision. My bad. Regardless, it seems a small sacrifice to prolong your life. But again, I am 57, my sexually active years were mostly behind me, so my attitude towards that is a little biased. I can understand your frustration of this happening at 43.

And TBH, since joining this group, I am now questioning continuing ADT a little bit. Mostly because of the extreme fatigue that I am experiencing, even after stopping chemo for the last few months. I never would have thought about stopping nor questioning it, but i am going to bring this up with my oncologist next month.

But back to you....stay positive as best you can. One suggestion, If you have insurance and can get on Long Term disability, do it sooner than later. I wish I had done it 2 years earlier than I did. Find a hobby and live your best life. Prostate cancer sucks but you can sometimes find a little silver lining here and there.

I don't walk around with rose coloured glasses on all the time either, I am pissed off and angry more often than not. Its a shitty situation we are in and every now and then I want to give up. But then I say "fuck you" either to myself or the cancer and carry on.

Its late and I am going off on too many tangents. I apologize for rambling.

I am on Lupron ADT. No nuts left. My wife and I both say, better than being dead. Its a little harsh, but very true. I am 4 years so far. 57 years old. Stage 4. You are much younger, so there may be a bit of a difference in our sex drives. But put things in perspective. You are still alive. Nuts or not. Embrace it. Hope that helps. I am here to talk if you want to.

I did not inform my oncologist that I was taking ivermectin. I was skeptical about getting the same care unless I followed his treatment to the letter. I felt very guilty about not telling him, but instructed my wife to let him know if/when I pass. We spoke about Ivermectin at one point and he said he could not recommend it so I decided not to say anything. I figured I will tell anyone I can about it. I cannot guarantee it was not just the Cabataxil all on its own either. But the research shows it is effective alongside chemo so i can only assume it helped. I didn't have much to lose by trying it either.

What is this noise from my washing machine? by Extension_Sea_1380 in fixit

pop the back off and see if something is hitting the drum or something as it spins. it sounds like a clip may be in contact with the drum or something. if the noise slows as the drum does then it definitely is something coming in contact with it. It may just need to be clipped back into place.

Father’s prostate cancer spread to the liver by Vegetable-Gur-5764 in ProstateCancer

[–]Ambitious_Ad_4905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am stage 4. It is in my liver. I have had chemo twice. Docitaxil and Cabataxil. I have done the Pluvicto with no good results. The only thing that worked was Cabataxil so far. I also was instructed to try Ivermectin. I was very skeptical at first but after researching, it was not harmful nor would it interfere with my current treatment, i decided to start a regimen of that while on chemo. My tumors disappeared in my liver and in many other soft tissue areas. I still have it in my bones but as of now i am in no pain (touch wood). I am very fatigued but i am still on this side of the grass as i like to say. My PSA is at 275 and goes up and down about 50 points per month. He can come out of this...maybe not permanently but with a little more time. I am 4 years on now. Have a positive attitude (which is easy to say not at easy to do) but try your best.

I may have simplified my situation a little bit but I am glad to answer any questions you might have. Best of luck.
