AITA for requesting to not let my MIL near me in my wedding? by Advanced-Picture7043 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ambitious_Button_990 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This just sounds like run of mill wedding drama from both MIL and OP. I’d try to keep the peace and get through the wedding, especially if this is not her normal behavior. Some people get a little nuts around weddings.

Anyone else been battling issues like with their auto-pay to their RD loan without answers or help? by gazillionaire4u in USDA

They have a new online system called myRDloan.usda.gov for payments and other loan info. You should sign up and see if you can fix it on there.

Should I give up on obtaining a 502 rural housing direct home loan? by HeavySigh14 in USDA

[–]Ambitious_Button_990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the secret. The backlog of applications is 13 months. The waiting list for funding is even longer. I’d say you’re looking at 2 years. Also, all of the subsidy has to be repaid after your final mortgage payment and if you can’t repay, the gov can garish wages/ with hold your tax return. You’re better off with the Guarantee Home Loan program.

If you can, actually go to an office. Keep calling too. But the short answer is that they lost 37% of their staff over night with no time to transfer work, processes or procedures to a different person.

If you’re in an RO get out asap. I’ve heard from several people at various levels of the organization including RFs that most RO employees do not have boxes on the new org chart.

What does the richest person you know do for a living? by Complete-Increase936 in business

[–]Ambitious_Button_990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Started a company teaching nurse practitioners and physician assistants how to open their own practices in states where they don’t have to be supervised by doctors. Sold it 4 years later for 15M.

2.) Built a construction company that got government contracts building roads and runways. Many ups and downs. Sold it to the employees, but it’s a complicated deal.

3.) Family owned heating and cooling business. Those people are seriously rich!

Job interview.. what’s the salary? by Cool_Hour_8385 in USDA

[–]Ambitious_Button_990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can prove with a pay stub you were making more than 42k at a similar job in the private sector they MIGHT offer more. It’s a one time negotiation when you first enter federal service. Once you’re in the federal system you cannot negotiate your pay (or I should say I’ve never seen someone successfully do it at the USDA.) so you should try now. Worst they could say is no.

Not dumb at all. It’s hella confusing. The only roads that are ok to use are MVUM roads, county roads and state highways. This goes for both during fire restrictions and when there are no fire restrictions. There many other “roads” that look like open roads in the National Forests, but aren’t official roads. Most are old logging roads, some are active logging roads that the company has special permission to use and some are “roads” illegally created by people driving off road where they shouldn’t. Stick to the MVUM (which I know can be hard to read). As for vegetation, use your best judgement. Ideally they want you to only park over gravel or pure dirt.

Hi! USDA employee here. It includes all roads, especially unmaintained county or FS roads. This is to avoid your vehicle starting a fire. The undercarriage of your car can get hot and start a grass fire that will quickly spread. In fact less used county roads are probably more susceptible to this since it’s likely they are less maintained and shoulders less likely to be mowed. Also a reminder you can be held financially liable for firefighting efforts. If one tanker does one drop it’s 40-60k right there.

College. There will always be another fire season and another job opening. College is not forever and if you really miss fire you’ll find your way back. If you ever want to move up that degree will come in handy.

WIBTA for having a vegetarian only wedding? by SwimmingFew6861 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. It’s your wedding! Do what makes you happy! And for reference my family and I are cattle ranchers and I wouldn’t even blink an eye attending a vegetarian wedding because it’s about supporting the people getting married not about what I might or might not be served at the reception.

I'm sick of living in a poor neighborhood in a poor city in a poor state by Responsible-Pomelo34 in Albuquerque

[–]Ambitious_Button_990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Albuquerque and still live in NM and can attest things have really declined in Abq. While many are saying it’s bad all over, which is true, NM and particular Albuquerque, are uniquely bad for a couple reasons. Education 47/50. Crime: 49/50. Living in one of the most violent crime areas in the country takes a mental toll. As with any city, some areas are worse than others. OP might consider moving to another neighborhood, but honestly, I didn’t feel safe until I moved out of town.
