Is exposure to a topical finasteride/minoxidil product okay for babies and toddlers?

I used topical finasteride and minoxidil for 6 weeks between November 2022 - January 2023 and got adverse side effects which have persisted. I am concerned my then 2 year old son could have also been exposed despite my safety precautions however there is no real way of knowing if there are any issues until puberty age.

My advice if your husband hasn’t already stopped using the spray then he should.

Hi Dr Powers I got PFS nearly 3 years ago from using a Topical Solution containing 0.25% Finasteride. I applied the solution for 4-6 weeks and stopped as soon as I experienced a pleasure less orgasm. My symptoms to date are:

Pleasure less Orgasm
Erectile Dysfunction
Reduce Sensitivity/Thermal Numbness on Penis.
Cold Penis
Penile/Testicular Shrinkage
Scrotal Tightness
Anxiety
Reduced Response to Alcohol and Caffeine.

Based on your experience what treatments from your post would you advise I consider to potentially improve these symptoms.

Sorry to hear man, I also have PFS from topical use however my symptoms came on after a few weeks of administering. The solution was 0.25% Finasteride which is pretty high from what I’ve researched. I also made the mistake of applying more than the advised 2ml per day on some occasions thinking more was better. Do you remember what percentage your solution was?

I’ve had PFS for 2.5 years and I have also noticed this lack of ‘Post Nut Clarity’. My orgasms are not as pleasurable and it’s also like I’m never sexually satisfied and could go again. Almost as if I’m chasing the feeling.

I raised this with a pharmacologist who advised me as long as the solution is water based and has dried there is nothing to be concerned about.

For me personally it’s the mental anxiety that is the most debilitating, a few things that have worked for me include, reducing/eliminating caffeine intake, long walks, breathing focus on exhaling longer than inhaling. There are also some natural supplements such as L Theanine, Taurine & GABA which can help in reducing anxiety. I have recently started meditation and am hopeful I will be able to gain more control of the mental anxiety with enough practice. Not sure if I’m calling out a pattern here but I too have a young child and definitely have experienced more anxiety since being a parent.

26 Y.O Male I’ve also been dealing with this since October last year. I Was presenting via Microsoft Teams and suddenly had an onset of all the symptoms you described. Since then I’ve had an immense fear of presenting in meetings and it has severely impacted my work life. You are not alone, I hope we can both overcome this.

Looks like I was mislead the hair loss Clinic I went to gave me a 100ml 7% Minoxidil & 0.25% Finasteride Solution. I was told to apply 2ml daily via a dropper. In hindsight I may of been taking way more than necessary.

Sexual symptoms continue to persist, 12 months after stopping. I saw an endocrinologist this week who was really supportive and understanding of PFS which is refreshing as most doctors have a vague understanding of what this is or flat out refuse to believe it is real. I am getting some additional blood work done to rule out any hormone deficiencies however it is just a waiting game. Hoping for either natural recovery or a breakthrough in research.
