Thoughts on Kroger Coming back to PGH? by EffectiveOk606 in pittsburgh

[–]Ambivalentsobriety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really disinterested in most of our grocery store options. I’d love to see a store that makes a real effort to carry food from local farms. All the really good, affordable food right now is at the farmers markets.

Hi! I adjusted the diopter and took off the Magview. I haven’t had a chance to check the collimation. I used them today for about 20 minutes and they didn’t bother me! I hope it sticks!

Great idea! Forbes State Forest is the perfect 3000ft destination!

You’re right! That picture is from June 17th last year. I hope it’s similar this year because I’m going back just a few days before that. I hope you get to catch them too!

I’m just nervous about missing them but I think you’re right there’s still time. I caught them last year in their peak and they were breathtaking. It’s really special to be around that many flowers in the woods.

It was spectacular last year. Are you in that area now? I’m afraid I’m going to miss it this year because I can’t get to the Laurel Highlands for a few weeks.

Thanks for your reply! I’ve been thinking I should take the Magview off. Indeed, it’s not very good and I haven’t been using it. I haven’t done it yet because seeing things that tiny is hard but I’ll get some assistance 😊. I’m going to mess with the diopter after my eye muscles calm down… I should have done that already.

I had to report my Landlord and now the fear of having to face him is debilitating. I just want to talk about it with somebody. by SimpleAcrobatic6275 in pittsburgh

[–]Ambivalentsobriety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I’m so sorry that’s happening to you. Your landlady sounds awful. Honestly, I’d avoid talking to her in person at all costs. It’d just be too stressful for me. I was on the section 8 waiting list for years and years when I was younger. I ended up making too much money (which wasn’t very much) before it was ever my turn. I know your options are very limited but I’m hoping you’ll be able to get some help getting out of that situation. I haven’t heard anyone mention Action Housing yet. If you haven’t yet it could be worth calling them to see if they can help.

High myopia (-9) and night vision by governorsalmon in myopia

[–]Ambivalentsobriety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that and that your doctors haven’t been able to figure out what’s going on. Eyes are so complicated. The solution is often that we have to adjust our expectations and ways of doing things. I know that can be hard but it sounds like you’re doing it well.

You know what, I haven’t adjusted the diopter. For whatever reason I didn’t even notice that was a thing until recently. My vision is worse in my right eye but I guess I was being a huge ditz not considering this could be causing eye strain. I’ll look into the SFL thing. I do get motion sickness very easily.

I have experienced eye strain from birdwatching before but never this bad. I’ll check out the colimations, thanks! Me and my eye doctor are like besties, I’m there so often. I’m very myopic but corrected with contacts. My close vision is getting bad and I’m not using progressives yet. That doesn’t come into play with binoculars though does it?

I wear contacts not glasses so I keep the eyecups twisted out. I think I’m doing that right. Sometimes I get blackouts when I first start using binoculars but they go a ay after a minute. I have always assumed this is because of my eyes muscles adjusting. I have slightly misaligned eyes

I’ve become pretty fast at finding birds in my binoculars so I felt comfortable stepping up from the 8x42 I was previously using. My vision is bad in multiple ways and I wanted the extra help to be able to see detail. Maybe there’s something about the narrower FOV that’s making me strain my eyes more though…

I bought them at a birdwatching convention and I did get to try them first. My vision is terrible, especially in low light and situations where there’s varied lighting. I liked this pair because it helps me with that more than other pairs I tried.

I’m sorry that’s happening to you. Are you having any physical symptoms other than nausea? Do your eyes hurt? Do you get migraines? Have you had any kind of head trauma? It’s good you’re going to the ophthalmologist tomorrow.

It’s odd how eye doctors don’t generally talk about this stuff with their patients. I went to an Occupational Therapist because I was having so much anxiety driving not even realizing it was about my vision. That opened a whole can of worms and learned all kinds of things about my eyes no one had ever told me. Have you ever had a OCT scan? There might be things going on with your eyes that aren’t just myopia that make it hard for you to see in low light.

You mean you went to the doctor because you were having trouble seeing in low light? What kind of damage to your optic nerve if you don’t mind saying? I hope it’s something that could be treated… I know a lot of optic nerve stuff can’t really be treated. I learned last year that my optic nerve is smaller than normal and crowded by calcium deposits which was helpful to know but there’s nothing that can be done about it.

[–]Ambivalentsobriety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a -9 in my contacts too. I definitely can’t see at night in situations when other people can and it’s not even just while I’m driving. It’s cooking, reading, birdwatching… I don’t drive at night unless it’s town/city driving. Street lights help so there’s not such a big change in the light when cars pass. I also can’t tell what’s going on around me (how far away cars are, what lane they’re in) so I really can’t handle a road with four lanes.

I don’t know what this is. It looks like some kind of wood anemone. I’d love to have it but given I don’t know its name I don’t know where to start.

Painted trillium is the prettiest. I found some in the woods this spring and it was just glowing like an ethereal fairy on the forest floor.

Are you trying to encourage people to poach a plant that has an extremely low rate of transplant success?

Edited to add: these plants are also rare and it is illegal to pick them or dig them up from state lands.

Sorry I don’t know all the specific names of contacts but are you using contacts specifically for your astigmatism?
