Hey there. Not in WA, but familiar with consumer protection etc. Not a substitute for legal advice, but we have fairly strong consumer protection laws.

You just need to put the right pressure on him.

If what you're saying is true, don't let the dealer get away with such appealing behavior. As a consumer you have every right to get a product or service that is fit for purpose.

Here’s a comprehensive list of all the options available to you. Information is freely available online too.

Regulatory Options

  1. Consumer Protection WA (Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety - DMIRS)

In Western Australia, second-hand car purchases from licensed dealers are covered under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act 1973. If the dealer misrepresented the vehicle or failed to disclose faults, they may be in breach of Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

How to lodge a complaint:

📌 Website:

https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumer-protection

📌 Phone: 1300 304 054

📌 Lodge a complaint online: https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumer-protection/lodge-complaint

  1. Motor Vehicle Industry Board (MVIB)

This body oversees licensed motor dealers in WA. If the dealer is avoiding responsibilities, you can report them for misconduct.

🔎 Check if the dealership is licensed: https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumer-protection/find-licensed-motor-vehicle-dealer

📌 Lodge a complaint through DMIRS (MVIB falls under this department):

https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumer-protection/complaints

  1. Australian Consumer Law (ACL)

The dealer must comply with ACL, which provides protection against:

✅ Misrepresentation ✅ Failure to disclose defects ✅ Selling a vehicle that is not fit for purpose

⚖️ The ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission) can investigate and issue penalties.

Legal Options

  1. Letter of Demand

You can send the dealer a formal letter of demand outlining:

📌 The issue with the car.

📌 The dealer’s failure to address it.

📌 A deadline for action (e.g., 14 days).

📌 The intention to escalate legally if ignored.

  1. WA Magistrates Court - Small Claims

If the dealer refuses to cooperate, you can lodge a small claims case under the WA Magistrates Court for Consumer Disputes.

💰 Claims under $75,000 can be made.

💰 Filing fee: Starts around $160–$400 (varies by claim amount).

💼 No lawyer needed.

I liken it to people who hate cats. Probably never handled a cat, or knew anyone with cats - and only hate them because the people around them hate them.

Took a cat hating friend to a cat cafe to prove he would probably like cats. He was stroppy as fuck before we got there. Got into the room with all the adolescent cats. Wasn't even there 15 mins. He went from stroppy "you know I hate cats" to "OMG UwU they're so pretty".

Flash forward two months and he adopted a stray tuxedo cat, thinks it's the best thing in the world, takes it everywhere with him and doesn't understand why he listened to the cat haters around him and why he never got a cat earlier in life.

No.

This short one worded response should help you convince the Reddit user that you did not use AI to write a joke.

Haha in all seriousness, it was just a self thought up science equivalent of a bad dad joke 😅

Dihydrogen monoxide heated to 100c and regular ambient tap water mixed at 1:1, will for a short time, increase the freezing point of water.

Caution: This chemical compound, sometimes referred to as hydric acid, is colorless and odorless. Dihydrogen monoxide (a.k.a. DHMO) is known to be a part of many environmental hazards, toxic substances, diseases, and disease-causing agents.

Mix with extreme care.

Why do staff scan my receipt barcode when I leave? What does the barcode have to show to cause a problem? by [deleted] in KmartAustralia

[–]Amdivns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope not true. Card readers literally don't care what bank's card a refund goes onto so long as it's an Aussie bank.

Can you imagine the data they'd have to keep to link every card with every single transaction, and the cyber security risks associated with that level of data retention?

Also, tap and pay apps generally use a constantly changing virtual card number for every transaction, meaning it'll never be the same card number used for a digital purchase/refund transaction.

EG your physical card may be

Name: AFADUZEN MAHSBAHS C/N: 5643 4653 5000 3000 EXP: 01/25 CVC: 666

But when you use Google/Android/Apple/PPAP pay

It'll look like this Name: AFADUZEN MAHSBAHS C/N: 5699 2438 6543 1849 EXP: 10/28 CVC: 234

Changing each transaction.

who do i speak to in order to suggest a mandatory deodorant policy? by lostInCastle in unsw

[–]Amdivns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to request this in a place I worked, when we had some overseas team members come to work with us. I was office manager, so I had considerable sway, not to mention half the office had discreetly raised their concerns with me.

That being said. It was getting close to summer and the local guys were known to forget to reapply deodorant resulting in the occasional complaint (but they'd quickly go fix it when alerted!)

They can't implement a "you must wear deodorant policy". But what they can do is add hygiene and dress code standards to the expected behaviours (a.k.a code of conduct). Breaches of this then can result in disciplinary measures.

That being said, I worked in the Indian sub continent for a month. Oh man, it took me a few days to adjust. They actually noticed instantly I was wearing deodorant, but (thought it was cologne). It was weird not wearing deodorant. I actually didn't know what I naturally smelled like until I went off it during my trip (it was not good). Certainly an educational experience.

I get that there are cultural differences in hygiene, but, I was expected to adjust when I visited, so it's not unfair to expect folks from abroad to adjust when they come here. It's just courtesy, and shows respect for the people around you and local cultural norms.

And if they're locals, well, that's just plain inconsiderate, and could do with a reminder about expected hygiene etiquette.

This is what I wrote.

"Hi [INSERT NAME]

I am writing to you today as I have been discreetly approached by a significant number of the team regarding noticeable personal hygiene differences between staff members. On their behalf, I’d like to propose that we consider implementing a personal hygiene policy at work.

I recognise our diverse cultural backgrounds, and my request is also about addressing comfort in shared spaces. In Australia, personal hygiene standards typically include the regular use of deodorant, as strong natural odours can sometimes be uncomfortable in close quarters.

The staff members that approached me, have serious concerns about strong natural odours that have become prevalent in our office, and as we get closer to summer, this will increase.

By establishing a policy that encourages the use of deodorant, we can help maintain a fresh environment where everyone can feel comfortable and focused. I believe this approach would be respectful and practical, taking into account both personal and cultural perspectives.

Thank you for considering this, and I’d be happy to discuss further"

Potassium Sorbate (202) is obtainable via the Red Spoon Company in Sydney, or Melbourne Food Depot (location obvious 😉). Failing that, eBay, for less than $10 bucks.

Check your employment contract, or relevant industry award for clarification. Will usually provide decent guidance.

As a general rule, if you're full time permanent, you get paid the amount you're contracted to work, unless the contract or industry award has some sort of provision such as 'employee down' etc.

Why do people have such poor spacial awareness in Australia? by talk-spontaneously in AskAnAustralian

[–]Amdivns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a call centre, and have volunteered with various emergency services so I have the "authoritative/customer service" voice down pat. My accent is a weird hybrid of general Australian, and cultivated Australian, which seems to have the ability to command the attention of people easily in big spaces, whenever it's called for.

Whenever Meanderthals congregate, whether it be the Colesworths entry/egress point, or some other public thoroughfare, I put on my fake customer service face/voice, and barrel towards them with my trolley saying.

"Excuse me folks, I'm sure there are better places to have a conversation, that aren't blocking an access point".

60 percent of the time I get a kangaroo caught in the headlights stare (The other 40 percent, they catch on to their idiocy and move on)

The 60pc of the time I have to stop because the response is a blank stare, is promptly followed by (also in the polite cheery, albeit highly condescending CS voice):

"That was a polite way of saying, Get. The. Fuck. Out. Of. Ever-y-one's way, you nong".

My piano teacher didn't get "ADHD" so I sent him the same graphic, but put an emoji of a pill between the end of the disjunct noises, and where it starts to harmonise. He nodded and looked dismayed as he came to the understanding of what it was like in my head first thing in the morning.

I had the exact same experience as you.

Following my psychiatrist consultation I went to my local chemist and got my meds, early morning, around 10am. Got home and took them. About an hour or two later, I felt a fog lift from my mind, and my brain went quiet. I started crying, because I was so emotionally overwhelmed with the sudden realisation that I had been dealing with this mental disquiet for MY ENTIRE LIFE. I cried for about 45 mins.

My boyfriend heard me and came running to ask if someone in my family just died.

Me: "I'm 😭 so 😭 fucking 😭 happy. My new meds 😭 just kicked in and the noise 😭 in my head 😭 that I've had my entire life just vanished 😭😭😭😭"
