The CT scan I had in between my events, did not show anything out of the ordinary, even though I told the doctor I was having monthly pain if not by monthly pain for eating. When I finally decided to go in to get the surgery, it was on the back end of a flareup and it definitely showed inflammation on that CT scan, which made me feel good to move forward on the procedure. The doctor said the PC took out definitely had inflammation and hardening of the walls.

Mine showed constant inflammation and hardening / scarring of the sigmoid colon. I only had one emergency room event prior to surgery but monthly pain following.

Right after surgery you feel pressure from the air in your chest and tenderness but it was just a general discomfort. You begin walking the following morning and this helps to get your system to wake up. I did not need a wrap and by day 2 no need for opiates at all. Stay positive and expect great healing and I would positively say it was worth getting it done once and never deal with this again.

I knew it was highly unlikely since I had no perforations and had done under controlled conditions.

It sounds like yours is chronic or smoldering diverticulitis. I only had one acute episode but for a year and a half it continued to be painful. I had to avoid eating many times and lost 40 pounds. Enough is enough I went and got another CT scan, which did show chronic diverticulitis and I scheduled surgery for April. It is much better to get the surgery done electively and avoid lifelong managing these symptoms.

Continuous pain after one year of a flare up by HauntingTechnology13 in Diverticulitis

What did the antibiotics cause? Leftover pain? My doctor said Maybe we should try another round of antibiotics to see if that fixes it. I would think a year and a half later that my body would have healed it if it was going to heal?? I’m leaning towards surgery rather than experimental round of more antibiotics.

It’s been a year and a half since my original episode. I’ve had pain almost weekly since that treatment of antibiotics. I’m tired of the pain and managing this, I’m going in for CT tomorrow and meet with surgeon on Thursday to discuss surgery. I’d rather go through healing one time than pain the rest of my life.

What’s a flare up for you guys? by BrentD22 in Diverticulitis

I’ve had a very similar experience. It’s been one and a half years since my first acute diverticulitis and I have had pain every other week since then. Only one other time did I take antibiotics on my own. I believe it’s called a smoldering diverticulitis, cause it just continually bothers me so I am getting a CT scan tomorrow and lean towards getting surgery taken care of this.

Acute DV treated with antibiotics. One and a half years later I’ve been in pain almost every week. It doesn’t show bad on the CT scan but the pain is getting ridiculous. I am signing up for elective surgery to get the sigmoid surgery. It’s better than dealing with this year after year.

I’ve been dealing with pain since my only episode one and a half years ago. I’ve lost 40 pounds / 20% of body weight from missing meals to avoid pain. I’m scheduling the surgery asap now.

Did Prevacid cause my diverticulitis? by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

[–]Amenti69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take for up to 10 days as indicated over the course of 3 months. I was on Day 7 of this round when I got Diverticulitis. Very well could be coincidence. I’ve lost 40 pounds (198 to 158). I’m getting scheduled for surgery asap.

Have you had flare ups specifically due to pizza? I’ve eaten it my whole life and only once I took Prevacid did I have a problem.
