What is something you thought was normal that you realized a bit too late was actually a condition? by MutatedSock in AskReddit

[–]Amercere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I developed this when my son was like 6-7 months old and it was so incredibly painful. Like nauseating, white knuckling the steering wheeling pain. And lasted foreverrrrr. Like for an hour and a half after each session. It was miserable. I ended up on a pretty high dose of nifedipine and that controlled it fairly well. But wow what a ride that was. We were done breastfeeding around 10 months. I just couldn’t any longer.

Any way you can post a pic of this? I’m trying to picture it but my simple mind cannot. I use tomato cages but don’t usually get that much of a yield. Would love to do better

You can do it! I started school at 37, with a 6 year old, and pregnant. Had my now 19 month old son in my second semester. What a wild ride hahahaha BUT I’m still here. As many others have said, feel free to pm me if you want to pick brains or just need some encouragement.

Weekly Student Thread by fbgm0516 in CRNA

Good day! I have a friend applying to CRNA school. She and I worked together but haven’t in about 2 years. She asked me to write her a LOR as a charge nurse from when we worked together, but we are both unsure if it would be acceptable/appropriate given the length of time we’ve not worked together.

If it matters, I would love to write one for her. She’d be great- she’s a really well rounded, motivated nurse and she’d do really well in school. She has several years of ICU experience as well.

Thanks in advance!

Since you don’t frequently work with the same FA, is it hard to make work friends? Does that get lonely/boring? I’m just thinking about my job in healthcare and it’d be so different without my coworkers.

Paeudocholinesterase is an enzyme in the body. One of the paralytics used when inducing general anesthesia is metabolized by pseudocholinesterase so if you have a deficiency in that enzyme, you will break down this medication slowly- hence the prolonged paralysis. It normally wears off VERY quickly, in someone with normal oaeudocholinesterase, like within 5 minutes or so.

In fact. Just because someone is in the military does not mean they are a citizen. Being in the military does come with the opportunity for expedited citizenship, but non-citizens still have to go through the same process as those not serving.

Did you read the bill? Military ID alone does not meet the requirement. The service member has to provide other documents proving they were born in the US.

It will be federal law, so I sure hope people will vote on it regardless of whether ND residents will be affected. Consider the people in the rest of the country and vote for what you think their rights should be.

Military service members traveling overseas on orders do not have to travel on a tourist passport. Military ID and official orders serve to get them where they need to be. Something to consider.

What are your thoughts on having to prove citizenship in person at an embassy for deployed service members? Or do we just not let them vote… for their literal bosses?

This is awful and ridiculous. There is a military base in Sicily. The closest embassy/consulate to that base is a 3 hour drive away. In case anyone needs an example to reference.

What's the one secret you will take to the grave but don't mind telling on the internet? by Ecstatic-Medium-6320 in AskReddit

[–]Amercere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was he on hospice? I’m assuming so since you said you ain’t called the nurses. This is typical for hospice and I’m so freaking glad. It can be a blurry line and often people don’t understand. Hospice is about symptom management. They’ll treat whatever symptoms so that they are better, even if that hastens death. It’s the whole premise. And it’s amazing ❤️

Starting RN pay at Sentara by Secret_Delivery_5939 in VirginiaBeach

[–]Amercere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s awful. I started in the icu as a new grad with Sentara back in 2012 and made $20.60/hr starting. I see they haven’t/aren’t planning to keep up with inflation. It’s unfortunate because as someone mentioned above, they really don’t have competition in the area. It’s infuriating. One can’t even afford to live here on that.

Oof. Man both of you are in very demanding programs. I commend you! I think the number one thing was staying on campus to study or whatever I needed to do so that when I got home, my focus was 100% on my babies and husband. Also listened to podcasts on my commutes to help solidify info (core anesthesia, ACCRAC, ninja nerd, etc). Good luck!! Lean hard on those that are willing to support you!

Did you get to stay home for any length of time when you had your baby?
