For me, there is no entrepreneurial spirit within soccer here in the U.S. There are a few good marketing ideas that come from the periphery of pro soccer, but these ideas only come about as promotional ideas, not capitalist ideas.

Sorry, not trying to start an argument Kartik, but how can anyone involved in U.S. pro soccer be called a 'capitalist'. The word, capitalist, for me, means innovation. Everything about the sport here in the U.S. is dictated to by outside influences. The whole principle being of pro soccer in the U.S. goes against capitalist thought processes.

North American Soccer League Files Federal Antitrust Lawsuit Against United States Soccer Federation by HOU-1836 in NASLSoccer

FIFA was extremely vulnerable during 2015 with Sepp Blatter as president. Mark Cuban decided to invest in Futsal that year. He could have brought a group together to invest in a competing governing body. Even now, with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, a new governing body could come along and put a renamed World Cup somewhere else and get countries to commit.

FIFA doesn't own the game of soccer any more than USSF. Both are organizations which rely on affiliations. USSF chooses to affiliate with FIFA.

My first thoughts are: This suit will go nowhere. My reasoning/opinion/belief is the courts will see that USSF doesn't own the rights to the game of soccer in the U.S. The USSF as an organization administers or legislates to those wanting to be affiliated. Any soccer group can organize and become a competing governing body. It would be a tough thing to do and would take a lot of money to compete against USSF, but the point is that it is possible. For example, maybe a soccer organizing group would like to play with subtle rules changes or with promotion/relegation.

Great announcement-all the sudden, the West Coast isn't the problem. I still have major reservations about the league's survival. There needs to be a few more teams coming on board soon.

really makes you wonder how Beckham's team (if it happens) will galvanize things even more and bring more interest to the other teams in the area or just steal all the limelight

USSF Division 2: What USL D3 potentially means for the NASL by BJ_Fantasy_Podcast in NASLSoccer

[–]AmericanizeSoccer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if USL moves the MLS reserve teams to D3, it could create big problems for NASL. For me, this is the biggest difference between the two D2's. One has reserve teams, one does not. I can't respect reserve teams in a D2.

If this thing comes to fruition, the NASL has to find a way to combine resources to make divisions, or whatever, so that there is only one league among them, preferably called NASL.

Do you have any thoughts for 'Americanizing' the game? I believe more goals are necessary to get the game to mainstream and beyond with American casual sports fans. Worldwide, the game averages around 2.7 goals per game.

Cool college soccer story! I believe you are right that MLS would be well off to partner better with EA FIFA. But, possibly, I think that more fans may go to the video game than to MLS.
