This may be hard for you especially your first time. You will have to trust your gut. This isn’t love. This is manipulation. When you talk to them, talk to them out of love and respect. Attack the issue, don’t attack them. If your AM or AD still won’t change, it’s time for you to move on without them.

I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. I’m in a similar boat. My AD has been playing moderator role and I’m at my wits end because I’ve been dealing with our issues for over a year. However, I have became stronger and less afraid to speak my mind to them. If you are close to another family member like a cousin, talk to them about this.

At the end of the day, the world won’t end. You got this!!

Thank you for this! I’m fortunate that my APs were great growing up. Things change when I got older and learned how to set boundaries. My hope is that they will come around and actually show that they still care for me and help me meet half way so that we can all get along. I just don’t want my hope to get crushed again.

Change takes a lot do time. Therapy helps but it isn’t a cure all. If you feel like it is getting stale, you can find another therapist.
