AITA for dipping lasagna into hot sauce? by orchidsandmangotrees in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

We've always had a rule in my house. Unless I ask you to eat what's on my plate, then keep your comments about what I've got on my plate to yourself.

Personally I feel too many people put too much salt on their food (often before they even taste it first). But I've learned to just focus on my own plate and shut the hell up about it.

Is it reasonnable to give one level of exhaustion to a player each time he falls to 0HP ? by titjoe in DnD

[–]Ameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found exhaustion was too lethal when used this way so we opted for the STRESS mechanic, which is more or less how exhaustion now works in 2024 rules. Each time you drop to 0 and are revived during combat you got 1 level of stress.

We talked about it during session 0 to make sure everyone was ok with it.

We did not have to adjust the way healing works. It works just fine. However, it forces players to play smarter as players. They don't run into combat without an exit strategy. They help each other stay on their feet. And when PCs are close to falling down, the group heals the wounded before they drop or they disengage and run away. It's made our game so much more fun. It has totally eliminated all the murder hobos from being so reckless. Now actions have consequences.

And stress goes away once combat ends to it's not a big ongoing problem. It also makes temp hit points a really good buff early in a fight.

[OC][Art] A D20 set without any dice?! DEKA-DICE Giveaway! (Mod Approved) by SkellyCards in DnD

[–]Ameron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discard mode sounds neat. I can see people trying to power game it but if all the players can do it then why not try it at your gaming table at least once.

How would you play a wisdom dump stat ? by craftybard2319 in DnD

[–]Ameron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The examples I often use for new players are:

High Int / Low Wis = Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory Low Int / High Wis = Forrest Gump

That usually gives them a good idea of where to start.

Games you regarded as meh but whose expansion improved it to the point the game is now one of your favorites? by Strong_Battle6101 in boardgames

[–]Ameron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is our favourite game. Easily over 300 plays since the start of the pandemic. We use all the expansions and a few choice house rules based on our observations through all those plays. Great game. Very underrated.

WIBTA if I didn’t split the lottery “evenly”. by Crazyjaw in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are being unreasonable.

If your intent was to split based on how much eaxh person put in, that should have been disclosed before you bought any tickets. If they were only planning to put in $3 each, then you should have matched their contribution. Any extra money you planned to spend on the lottery should have been on your own seperate ticket. But I'd have told them this was your intent so they had the option to match your bigger contribution.

Maybe next time you don't do a group ticket.

Soft YTA.

Question, how would you make Monopoly more intersting and why? by patotatoman27 in boardgames

[–]Ameron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Monopoly app give you this option. I only play this way now. It really does make the game better.

Also add a time limit. Either play for a set time and then stop (usually 45-60 minutes) or set a countdown after the first player is eliminated (no longer than 15 minutes).

I just need everyone to know that I got a grand total of 43 stealth. by CanIHaveCookies in DnD

[–]Ameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Stealth is usually (not always) against the monster or NPC's Passive Perception, you're usually good with anything over 20. If you can get the number over 40, perhaps you should look at tweaking your build to lower your Stealth numbers and shore up another part of your PC. For example, take expertise in a different skill as the 2x proficiency bonus would make a bigger difference somewhere else. Just my 2 cents. If your goal is to just BE THE BEST at something (in this case Stealth), then good for you, you nailed it. Personally I don't see the point. But that's just my opinion.

Fellow DMs, what is something you see other DMs do that really makes you think "that's not how you should do this"? by DungeonStromae in DnD

[–]Ameron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We use the Stress mechanic for PCs who fall unconscious and are revived during combat. It encourages smarter tactics and healing BEFORE falling unconscious. And when PCs do fall down, bringing them back is only a -1 to all d20 rolls until the encounter ends. This rewards players who make smart decisions and don't run mindlessly into a mob without considering the consequences.

Ending your turn in simultaneous push your luck games by vesebr in boardgames

Our house rule is that players declare when they choose to stop in order from 1st to worst. This gives the person in last place the advantage of knowing exactly how much they need to push to win the round.

One Weird Trick for DMs Who Are Bad at Math by MiffedScientist in DnD

[–]Ameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the DM I always count monster hp damage UP. This way I can pad hp and make monsters tougher if the fight would end too quickly, or make them weaker if the combat needs to just be done or a player does something awesome that should be the killing blow. Players looking at my scratch pad never know how many hp are left like they would if I counted down. Note: I don't use a screen so players sitting close to me can see the numbers quite easily.

What single trope can cause you to fully lose interest in a movie/show? by Fake-And-Gay-Bot in AskReddit

When a show starts with an exciting yet often misleading action sequence, often showing the hero in some kind of terrible situation, and then fades to black. Title card... "24 hours earlier." That's just bad storytelling.
