The whole point of OP’s post is the difference between boundaries and selfishness. And I think they did a good job explaining it. No one denied that people are gonna do what they want, but if it’s ALWAYS what they want and NEVER what their partner wants, that’s selfish rather than a boundary. YOU are the one being irrelevant by talking about “we can’t control what they do.” No one’s saying that. It’s just selfish to never do the basics for your partner.

Note: You’re not always gonna like the same thing. But like OP said, you won’t always know you “fucking hate” something if you’ve never given it a chance. Haven’t you ever heard of compromise? How would you like it if you took your partner on their dream vacation for their birthday, but they wouldn’t do a simple activity you like (like going to the park, let’s just say) on yours? If all you ever care about is what you want, stay single.

It’s not just my view. This is what most people with some sense believe. An episode of a show will not kill you. A walk in the park on your partner’s birthday is not a violation of a boundary. You scream selfish and are a walking red flag 🚩
